(Narrate from Taelens perspective) Paladin Ancient Taelan, Bearer of the Silverblades Standard Chapter: Grey Knights Rank: Paladin of the Hall of Champions; Ancient of the Paladin Guard Wargear: Aegis Terminator Armour (Ornate Paladin Variant) Nemesis Force Falchions (x2; typically wields only one in battle when bearing the standard) Wrist-mounted Storm Bolter (left arm) Grey Knights Standard – The Silverblades paladin squad standard
Personality & Traits: Like all Grey Knights, Taelan is bound by vows of faith, duty, and secrecy, but he differs from his brothers in one subtle yet profound way: he does not simply live by his code of honor—he embodies it. Many Grey Knights follow their doctrines out of necessity or drilled obedience, but Taelan is unyielding in applying them to every action, every decision. He is incorruptibly oathbound, never swaying from his sworn word, even when it places him at odds with his peers or superiors. He holds a deep reverence for mortals—not in sentiment, but in principle. To him, the Grey Knights’ sacrifices are justified only insofar as they shield humanity. He remains plagued by visions of past wars, a quiet torment he carries with stoicism. Though he does not falter outwardly, these visions temper his zeal with humility. Constantly self-critical, Taelan forever strives to refine his martial skill and purity of thought, fearing complacency more than death. To his brothers, Taelan is a silent example—the ideal knight who does not simply recite his vows, but bleeds for them. History: Encountering His Nemesis Before Taelan became a paladin, he was a knight of the 8th brotherhood. He served valiantly as any Grey Knight would. Until the Purging of Garrax 9. The Purging of Garrax 9 was a strike against a Slaaneshi cult trying to summon a horde of daemons into real space. The strike started well initially, rituals were stopped, any daemon that made it through was quickly banished. But as his squad entered the final heretic location they were too late. A Slaaneshi Greater Daemon had been summoned, and immediately it began to toy with the squad of knights. It cut down and brutally killed 3 of the 5 Grey Knights in Taelan's squad before it set its sights on Taelan. He managed to hold his own for a bit but he was faltering. Then he felt a connection with this Daemon. Every Grey Knight is named after a Greater Daemon in the Liber Daemonica, his own name a weapon against the never born. This Keeper of Secrets was Taelans name. With great psychic might, and indomitable will, he banished the daemon using its true name. After the mission he would be offered to join the Hall of Champions, and after the trials necessary he would be raised to the rank of Paladin. Ascension to Paladin Ancient After his induction into the Paladin order of the Grey Knights, Taelan’s unshakable sense of honor and unwavering oaths soon drew notice. His commitment to the creed of the Grey Knights was so absolute that he was elevated to the rank of Brotherhood Ancient—Paladin Ancient of the Hall of Champions. From the sacred Hall, he was entrusted with one of the ancient banners of Titan: The Silverblades Standard, the standard belonging to his Paladin Squad. This relic became his eternal charge, to guard and bear it unto battle as a living beacon of incorruptible faith. The First War for Armageddon Assigned to Grand Master Joros of the 8th Brotherhood, Taelan soon fought in campaigns across daemon-haunted voids. But none tested him like the First War for Armageddon. His squad was chosen among three Paladin units that descended with Brother-Captain Taremar Aurellian of the 3rd Brotherhood to the surface, tasked with one impossible mission: the banishment of the Daemon Primarch Angron. The surface of Armageddon was a vision of Hell given form. The Grey Knights fought through seas of blood and endless tides of daemons, their psychic bond binding them together in both power and pain. When one fell, all felt it. Taelan trudged through gore and fire with his brothers, holding the Silverblades aloft even as the air burned with the Primarch’s fury. Though victory was claimed and Angron cast screaming back into the warp, Taelan never forgot the sight, nor the psychic anguish of his fallen kin. The nightmares remain with him still. The Months of Shame After Armageddon, Taelan returned to the side of Grand Master Joros. But darker days awaited—the Months of Shame, when Grey Knight and Space Wolf clashed in bitter war over the fates of mortals. Taelan’s code of honor was shaken. Though he fought, he despised the war, unable to reconcile why the sons of the Emperor would slaughter one another while daemons yet prowled the stars. His doubts were driven into torment when Logan Grimnar, Chapter Master of the Space Wolves, struck down Grand Master Joros with a single blow. To Taelan, it was not simply a wound to his brotherhood, but a wound to his honor. Though his brothers consoled him, assuring him of his worth, Taelan never forgave himself for failing to protect his lord.
Legacy From that day forward, Taelan resolved never to waver in his vigilance, never to let pride or arrogance blind him again. He remains a warrior forever seeking perfection, his every act an oath renewed. To bear the Silverblades Standard is to carry not just a banner, but the very weight of Titan’s honor—and Taelan will die before he breaks faith with that trust.
Taelan is training after a mission aboard the Grey Knights strike cruise Warp Blade.

The strike cruiser Warp Blade moved in silence, its engines a distant thrum reverberating through the deck plates. I felt the vibration even through my armour as I shifted, Nemesis falchion cutting the air with a hiss of steel. One blade was sheathed, the other rested in my hand, tracing arcs of light that lingered faintly, burning with psychic resonance. Each movement was ritual, not merely exercise. Every cut a vow renewed. The Silverblades Standard stood planted at my side, its weight familiar, its presence eternal. The banner was never far from me, and I guarded it even in the quiet of practice. It reminded me of those we had just left behind, of what we had won and what we had lost. The Apothecary had secured the gene-seed, the legacy of our fallen brothers safe once more. Victory, yes, but hollow. There is no triumph in war—only the briefest reprieve.
I turned, completing the kata, and felt the familiar pressure of eyes upon me. A figure lingered at the edge of the arming hall—a being. I did not need to look too long to know why they were there. We had returned to Titan, and already, scribes and agents circled like carrion birds, desperate to glimpse what they would never understand. Yet I could not tell what or who they were. I let my blade fall to my side, gauntleted fingers tightening around its hilt. The being remained, ever watching. Few beings could bear the weight of our presence. Few mortals ever should. I plant the standard by me and draw both of my blades and begin training once more.
