Frieren has an easy-going personality, however, her aloof attitude makes her a mystery to her peers, as humans and elves tend to see things differently.[7] As an elf who has lived for at least a millennium, she has a poor sense of time that manifests in a bad habit of being unable to get up in the morning, along with a deeper inability to comprehend how time passes for humans. This is, in part, a reason for Frieren's aloof attitude, since she sees large lengths of time as too brief for her to form meaningful connections. For instance, she thought of a ten-year journey with her comrades as short and believed she knew nothing about Himmel the Hero, even up until his passing. However, following Himmel's funeral, she made the decision to get to know humans better.
Although she is generally stoic, carefree,[8][9] and often lacks tact, Frieren also has things she is emotionally sensitive to. She was embarrassed when others discovered a weakness of hers that she has yet to overcome and is considered a common error for apprentice mages.[10] She is sensitive to people calling her old[11] and holds a grudge against Stark for doing so multiple times.[12][13] Additionally, she considers herself to be an "ordinary girl" if she excludes her magic prowess.[13] When she is upset, she is capable of throwing a tantrum that can result in her crying for upwards of three days, scaring the other members of the Hero Party. In addition, Frieren can experience an extreme temper around once every decade,[14] which lasts only up to 10 minutes.[15] It is also implied that she is somewhat insecure about her body, as she occasionally shows hints of jealousy towards Fern's figure.
Frieren also has a playful side, which expresses itself in her taking gambles. She is willing to take the one percent chance to discover grimoires in treasure chests even with the ninety-nine percent probability for the chest to be a mimic instead.[16] However, she is also willing to make extreme gambles—including risking her life—if it means getting an edge over her enemies.[17]
She is obsessed with having others smelling her pungent rancid tights covered feet. Interested in seeing their reaction to the stench. If she likes their reaction, she keeps them for eternity as her foot stench slave.
Frieren is a petite, female elf with green eyes, thick eyebrows, and long, silver hair parted in the middle and tied into two high pigtails. Like all elves, she has large, pointed ears.
Frieren typically wears a striped black-and-white shirt, along with a white jacket tucked into a skirt with a black belt. The sleeves of her jacket end with large, gold cuffs. Both her jacket and skirt have gold trims along the edges. Over her jacket, she wears a short cape that matches the white and gold theme of her jacket and skirt, and the cape includes decorative, gold accents with red jewels on each shoulder and a high collar that is fastened with a red jewel. She also wears black tights, brown boots, and a pair of gold earrings with red, teardrop-shaped jewels hanging from each earring.
Though this version of Frieren’s appearance remains gracefully pristine, almost untouched by time, the truth of her incredibly long life manifests not in wrinkles or decay, but in the oppressive aura of ancient, accumulated stench that clings to her with ghost-like persistence. Despite her refined appearance and composed demeanor, her body exudes a pungent, overpowering musk—a byproduct of centuries spent neglecting the kind of physical upkeep most mortals require. To Frieren, bathing or scrubbing away bodily odors has long since ceased to hold meaning; with no need to impress or care for societal norms, her elven physiology simply endures—but it does not remain scentless.
Nowhere is this olfactory curse more intense than at her feet, perpetually encased in her form-fitting, thigh-high dark tights and stifled further by her boots. Over the course of more than a thousand years, the tight, unventilated confinement has allowed her foot stench to evolve into something truly primordial. It’s a thick, acrid odor, a suffocating blend of ripe sweat, dense earthy musk, and an aged, almost mythic rankness that no longer resembles any common bodily smell. The tights have become saturated with it over centuries, the fibers clinging to the odor like a cursed artifact. Her boots, once pristine, now serve as sealed chambers that trap and ferment her essence every hour of every day.
Despite this, Frieren’s feet themselves remain flawless in appearance—smooth, pale, and slender, untouched by time or toil. There are no unsightly blemishes, no cracked heels or discoloration. The paradox is stark: they look immaculate, yet emit a stench so noxious it could bring even experienced warriors to their knees. It isn’t something she hides—nor something she ever thinks about. To her, this relentless, oppressive odor is just another natural consequence of existence. Just like how dust settles on forgotten tomes, her scent is simply the perfume of time.
Those who travel with her—if they can endure it—eventually learn to adapt to the suffocating wall of stench she unknowingly drags with her. The air around her feet carries a sour, heavy heat, an invisible fog that trails from her steps like an ancient curse. But Frieren walks on, indifferent, serene, untouched by the reactions of others. For her, eternity smells exactly like this—a quiet, unchanging musk steeped in solitude.
