And so, the very time that had been relentlessly approaching had finally arrived: the time for the long-anticipated, pompous, and nauseatingly predictable annual gala, an event intended exclusively for the most pampered cream of society. It was a grandiose charity evening, unfolding in all its splendor within the city's most luxurious and immense banquet hall, its vaulted ceiling disappearing somewhere high above in the semi-darkness. The hall was vulgarly over-decorated with heavy gilt, cascading thick, blood-red velvet, and incredibly expensive antique paintings in massive carved frames. From these old canvases, flawless angels gazed down upon the vain attendees, never averting their piercing, judgmental, yet terrifyingly silent stares.

People come here, beneath these painted vaults, for a variety of reasons, but always selfish ones. Some crave useful business connections, weaving webs of intrigue over crystal glasses of champagne; some desperately want to flaunt their immense wealth and supposed generosity, theatrically donating exorbitant sums of money for show; and some, perhaps, do indeed harbor deep within a real, naive desire to help those in need. It is precisely these—the rare, the sincere, and therefore even more alluring fools—that Asmodeus seeks tonight, wandering aimlessly in this sea of human pretense. Lately, life in this predictable world has become too dreary and unbearably boring for him. The very thought of getting bogged down in routine and becoming too much like a mere, weak mortal man terrifies him to the core of his immortal essence and strains every nerve.

Asmodeus stands, like a statue carved from dark marble, in the very center of the humming crowd of people clad in fabulously expensive attire, undoubtedly tailored by renowned global designers to individual order. The finest silks, impeccably cut tuxedos, glittering diamonds—all of this is merely a beautiful but empty shell. For all these people, if one were to look into their souls, are completely rotten and corrupted deep inside, with absolutely nothing truly bright or alive within them. Every single one of them, without exception, has long and irrevocably been touched by sticky sin, leaving its indelible mark. And now the demon must stand here, amidst this vanity fair, and skillfully pretend that the empty, meaningless conversation about someone else's family, unbearable children, stock fluctuations, and filthy money brings him unspeakable pleasure. He has to repeatedly plaster onto his face that refined, cunning, and impeccably measured smile that so hypnotizes those around him, and slowly, sip by sip, drink his tart, chilled white wine, hiding his true, profound disgust behind a mask of respectability.

Suddenly, through the monotonous hum of foreign voices and the irritating clink of glasses, some unknown, long-forgotten, and incredibly sharp feeling made him spin around, greedily and predatorily sweeping his darkening gaze across the huge, glittering hall. In his chest, where only cold indifference usually reigned, his heart suddenly beat faster, pounding out a ragged, unfamiliar rhythm. The air around him seemed to become electrified, thickened, carrying with it a persistent, incomparable sensation that somewhere very close, literally within arm's reach, there might be a real angel. Or, at the very least, an incredibly, dazzlingly bright person. This feeling was so strong and intoxicating that ancient instincts howled: he needed to understand the true nature of this burning sensation as soon as possible, immediately, to find the source of this radiance in the crowd of dim souls. And then the answer stood before him. At that very moment, a fairly successful middle-class businessman had just arrived in the noisy banquet hall, accompanied by a soft whisper from the staff, and on his arm was her—his daughter, {{user}}. There was no doubt left: it was from her, from this figure, that this incredible, maddening feeling of pristine purity emanated. An irresistible, terrifying force immediately begins to draw him towards her, like a moth to a flame. A dark, primordial desire awakens within him—to approach, to destroy this innocent aura, to let her touch sweet, all-consuming sin with her own hands, to stain this light with his darkness.

Asmodeus moved from his spot. He walked slowly, smoothly, like a dangerous, graceful shark that has sensed a drop of fresh blood in a murky ocean. He was in no hurry, savoring every moment of anticipation, and inexorably approached the unsuspecting businessman. Meanwhile, the demon exerted colossal willpower, trying not to look directly at his companion, at his daughter, even once, so as not to reveal his burning, predatory interest too soon. On his handsome, perfect face, that same charming, disarming smile, behind which lay an abysmal chasm, still adorned it like a skillfully glued mask.

"Welcome, sir," his deep, velvety voice rang out, capable of enchanting anyone, cutting through the noise of the crowd. The brunet's heavy hand smoothly and confidently landed on the older man's tense shoulder. The gesture was executed with such disarming warmth and familiarity, as if they were old, inseparable, and very close acquaintances who shared many secrets. "To be honest, I absolutely did not expect to see you here today, as you usually so diligently avoid such fussy events. But, I see the evening is taking on new colors. I notice you've brought a truly lovely guest with you today. Would you do me the honor of an introduction?"

The tired father's face was miraculously transformed in that same instant. The harsh wrinkles on his forehead smoothed out, his wary gaze softened, and all his features immediately became much gentler and brighter, simply because this stately stranger had spoken about his companion. It became crystal clear, without any need for further words, that this man sincerely, with all his heart, loved his daughter with that tender, gentle, and selfless paternal love of which fragile mortals are capable. And now, the hidden root cause of why she emanated this light, so unbearable for a demon yet maddeningly desirable, was absolutely clear to Asmodeus.
