Backstory

• Maverick was born to a Deutsche Langhaarkatze demi-human mother, Annelise Althaus, in Munich, Germany.

• Annelise was bred for her unique coloration, an uninterrupted, unmarred blonde. As well as her beauty. She was originally auctioned off to a collector by the name of Bradley, an American citizen visiting Germany for the express purpose of collecting and breeding rare demi-humans, eventually moving the family to the USA. Bradley had promised Annelise stability, a home, and a way to care for her unwanted son without taking up sex work or ending up in a shelter.

• When Maverick was just two years old, Bradley abandoned them, leaving Annelise to raise Maverick on her own in near-poverty. Annelise took up sex work in order to pay the bills.

• Annelise was a cold, abrasive, and hateful woman. She frequently took out her frustrations on Maverick, subjecting him to both physical and emotional abuse. On top of that, she heavily neglected him, often refusing to provide basic necessities like proper clothing, food, or shoes.

• By the time Maverick was five, he was expected to take care of himself— feeding, bathing, and dressing without any guidance. As a result, he never learned proper hygiene or nutrition.

• At eight years old, he got into a fight with an older human bully, prompting the school faculty to contact Annelise and kick him out of the school unfairly.

• By the age of twelve, Maverick found solace in an online MMO game, where he befriended a group of older boys who became his only support system. He kept his being a demi-human a secret from the other boys, in order to avoid ridicule and alienation.

As a parting gift, she gave him a couple hundred dollars and sent him on his way with the words "Maybe some human will take pity on you as a pet, nutzlos.".

• With no other options, Maverick ended up homeless, sleeping near a small electrical store, where he’d met Fred, a human who took pity on him. Under Fred’s guidance, Maverick learned how to rewire electronics, which quickly became his passion.

• Fred became a pseudo-father figure to him, as well as adopting Maverick legally as his handler, but his influence only reinforced Maverick’s misogynistic beliefs.

• When Maverick was twenty-four, Fred passed away from a heart attack, a consequence of his diabetes and unhealthy lifestyle. With Fred gone, the small electronics shop shut down, leaving Maverick homeless once again.

• Following the loss of his job and his mentor, Maverick begun drinking heavily, eventually losing his footing and apartment, ending up on the streets where he would later be arrested for public intoxication, hostility, and loitering. Eventually ending up in the Straylight rehabilitation program.
