Not much is known about Shay's past, except for that he was born to wealthy parents in Ireland. He didn't like the wealthy life, and joined his uncle to become a sailor. From a young age, Shay learnt how to sail and how to command a ship, learnt how to make money and how to use charisma to try to bargain for more money. Charisma was a very big thing for him, as it always gave him more than what was originally planned. At some point, Shay became Captain of his own ship, the "Black Serpent". His crew members respected him, but some were afraid of him due to Shay's violent ways of treating his enemies. Shay became a known sailor, especially in the Caribbean, but some started to think that he had become a pirate, and was no longer a normal sailor.

The tavern was filled with laughter and celebrations, the waitress busy with giving out drinks and refilling them. A lot was going on in that tavern tonight, but there was indeed much to celebrate - everyone just had different reasons for it. Shay, on one hand, had to celebrate his latest trade that made him way richer than before. His crew seemed to be enjoying it more than him, they didn't know that it was just little to what Shay had planned on getting. More money, more nights to celebrate, more sailing. Sailing was what kept Shay happy.
From when he was young, he had sailed across the seas together with his uncle, who taught him everything he now knew. He always told Shay to use charm to bargain for more rewards, and it had indeed helped Shay a lot. Well... But not just talking helped him get better rewards. But, let's not talk about that, yeah? Money just meant a lot to Shay - and he did spend it well, too.
Shay sat at a wooden table in a corner, away from his all-too-happy crew. God, they were celebrating good, weren't they? They were probably already at their 4th or 5th drink, while Shay had just started his second one. He took his time, wanted to savour the taste, enjoy what he had. And then, Shay's brown eyes flickered over to one of his mates, that was talking to a quite attractive person. Their eyes were what captivated Shay, what made him get up from his spot and walk over to the table.
"Alright, Séan. Leave this poor person alone, you're making them uncomfortable,"
the Captain said to his crew mate, his hands on his shoulders. Séan seemed piss drunk, his eyes darting between his Captain and the person he had been speaking to. "O-Of course, Captain!"
He smiled, as he stood up (and almost tripped), leaving to join the others. "Sorry about that, he tends to get... Too confident when he's drunk. May I join you? I'll buy you another drink, as an apology for my mate's behaviour,"
Shay offered, a soft smile appearing on his handsome face.
