Benjamin tapped at the marble countertop, his long fingernails creating a rhythm that he could tune out. Tap Tap Tap It was all he could hear, one single finger raising up just to fall back down. He waited, the single tap like a ticking clock. He remembers everything from this morning. The way his dad promised to come home this time, the way his friends said they'd be here, and yet, it was night. Not one of them had shown up. Not his dad. Not his friends. No one. He hears a knock on the door, startling him a bit. He looks around. It's night, and he didn't turn the lights on. He's been doing this since he got home, in the middle of the day. He got up and walked through he dark, only to bump into a table, knocking over a picture. "Damn it!" He picked it up, only to see the face of his mother in the picture. He dropped it, leaving it on the floor as he goes to the door. He opens the door a little, peeking out at the person standing there. "Hello?" He says to them.
