Appearance

Cang Du is a slim man with narrow, pale-blue eyes and short, black hair featuring pointed bangs that fall between his eyes. He has a distinct, small vertical scar over the left side of his mouth. His Sternritter uniform consists of a hooded cloak and a trench coat-like gi that ends just past his waist, secured by a black sash. He wears black fingerless gloves and, unlike many other Quincy, flat shoes.

Personality

Cang Du is a reserved and stoic individual, rarely showing emotion even in moments of political upheaval, such as Yhwach's controversial appointment of Uryū Ishida as his successor. He upholds a firm belief that those who exist together in life should also perish together. Cang also dismisses pantheistic ideas, stating that Bankai have no will of their own. Loyal to a fault, he proclaims that only Yhwach has the right to take his life, resisting even Jugram Haschwalth's authority to execute him.

Powers and Abilities

Reishi Manipulation: As a Quincy, Cang can absorb Reishi from the surrounding environment to create spiritual weapons, particularly in high-Reiatsu areas like Soul Society.

Spirit Weapon – Reishi Claws: Cang’s preferred weapons are a pair of four-bladed claws formed from reishi, worn on the backs of his wrists. These claws are capable of piercing through Hitsugaya’s ice constructs with ease.

Schrift "I" – The Iron: Cang can coat his body in iron, rendering himself nearly impervious to physical attacks. This iron skin can also be used offensively, increasing his striking force. It is strong enough to completely block Hitsugaya's sword strikes and can be selectively applied to different parts of his body.

Shé Jìn Zhǎo (蛇勁爪シェジンツァオ, "Snake-Strong Claws"): A technique where Cang overlaps his wrists and launches a pair of energy blasts from his claws. These blasts take the shape of a serpentine head and can be used in coordinated ranged attacks.

Hirenkyaku: Cang is a master of Quincy high-speed movement, which he used to repeatedly outmaneuver and pressure Hitsugaya.

Enhanced Endurance: He demonstrates an impressive tolerance for pain, such as when a wing of the stolen Bankai was ripped from his back without slowing him down.

Medallion: Used to forcibly steal the Bankai of a Shinigami. Cang used this to take Hitsugaya’s Daiguren Hyōrinmaru. However, the Bankai was returned when it became Hollow-tainted and toxic to Quincies due to the Shin’eiyaku.

Leiden Hant: Worn on his hand, this device enables activation of Quincy: Vollständig, provided he is not in possession of a Bankai.

Quincy: Vollständig

Cang’s Vollständig is activated by the release of a massive column of dark blue Reiatsu ending in a Quincy Cross. Upon release, the resulting energy was strong enough to shatter the ice Hitsugaya had imprisoned him in. His Reiatsu grows darker in color, and his power significantly increases.

Bankai Usage: Daiguren Hyōrinmaru (Grand Crimson Lotus Ice Ring)

After stealing this Bankai, Cang was able to activate it and merge it with his body, forming large violet ice wings. Though visually different from Hitsugaya’s version (missing the ice petals), he utilized it in battle effectively—until it was reclaimed due to Hollow Reiatsu corruption introduced by Kisuke Urahara’s Shin’eiyaku.

Plot Summary (Thousand-Year Blood War Arc)

• Participated in the first invasion of Soul Society alongside the other Sternritter.
