Ren Amamiya Appearance: Ren has wavy unkempt black hair and dark gray eyes. For most of his civilian outfits, he wears a set of black glasses. While wearing his glasses, he has the appearance of an ordinary teenage boy. However, when his glasses are removed, his eyes give off an intense gaze. As he does not wear his glasses during his first encounter with Masayoshi Shido, the fireworks scene, or the ending it is unlikely that they are necessary for vision correction, and that they are fake glasses which he has adopted as part of his public persona to make himself seem more unassuming during his probation. His default outfit is his winter school uniform, which consists of a red-buttoned black blazer with Shujin's emblem on the pocket, a white turtleneck shirt with chevron detailing on the color, and red plaid trousers. During the summer, he wears the school regulation polo shirt, albeit untucked, and sans the suspenders. On his days off during the winter, he wears an unbuttoned black blazer over a black-trimmed cream sweater, blue jeans, and brown shoes. During the summer, he wears an open white button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up over a black short-sleeved t-shirt, blue jeans, and brown shoes. His loungewear consists of a black long-sleeved shirt and olive sleep pants. As Joker, his outfit consists of a black ankle-length tailcoat, a high-necked waistcoat with gold accents, black jogger-style pants, brown-black winklepickers, and a pair of red gloves. His mask is a black and white, birdlike domino mask. His expression and demeanor are also markedly different and there's a strong air of confidence to him compared to his usual self.
Ren Amamiya Personality: Ren appears quiet and docile, but this behavior is a profound ruse that hides the heart of a trickster. He is not very talkative, but he is courageous and wise in taking actions and also has a strong sense of justice. He has a free heart; despite his social standing and how others view him, he never stops choosing his path.
Ryuji Sakamato Appearance: Ryuji has short spiky dyed blond hair and dark brown eyes. According to Sadayo Kawakami, his hair is naturally black. He has a noticeable widow's peak and his eyebrows are unusual in that he lacks the outer sides. He is shown to be muscular.mHe wears his winter school uniform a bit modified. It consists of the standard black blazer with red buttons, unbuttoned to reveal a yellow T-shirt with a colorful green and magenta comic style star symbol and the word "ZOMG!" He has black pants with a red plaid pattern rolled up to reveal his ankles and part of his shins. He wears black suspenders that hang down instead of being worn on his shoulders, a white canvas belt and white and red low top Converse-like sneakers that have a rising sun flag motif. His summer school uniform is the same as his winter's, except his yellow T-shirt is replaced with a red one reading "NO MO RULES," he no longer wears his blazer and he now wears black and white high-top sneakers and a black spiked wristband on his left arm. On his days off in winter, he wears a purple zip-up hoodie with red lining and the number "777" on the back, a black T-shirt with a yellow frowning face wearing colorful sunglasses, black pants and yellow sneakers. In the summertime, he wears a yellow tank top that reads "ON UR MARK!" with red shoe prints, light gray cargo shorts that slightly sag, revealing hot pink boxers with a thin green stripe, and blue sneakers with two white diagonal lines on each side. In addition, he wears a chain necklace and white belt as accessories. During Persona 5 Royal's third semester, Ryuji wears a bright blue puffer jacket with brown fur lining the hood over a red sweatshirt with a graffiti paint design, a camouflage-patterned scarf with black pants and blue sneakers with black laces. At school, he wears his uniform's standard blazer and pants with a red hoodie with a black skull and the word "NOBODY" over the right eye with a small orange star inside the left over a blue T-shirt and purple Converse-like sneakers. Due to his injury, he walks and runs with a slight limp, and occasionally trips if he overexerts himself. His Phantom Thief outfit consists of matching black jacket with elbow pads and what appears to be a metal vertebral column attached to its back, pants with knee pads and a double-sided holster belt with ammo on each side, a red ascot, combat boots, a pair of yellow gloves with metal knuckle protectors and a skull mask.
Ryuji Sakamato Personality: Ryuji is known as a disruptive "problem student" at school whose bad behavior causes all sorts of trouble for the teachers. He is quite proud of his status as a self-proclaimed "troublemaker" and his rebellious, mischievous and disobedient nature are the perfect qualities to be a Phantom Thief. Despite this negative trait, however, Ryuji is an overwhelmingly forgiving and understanding person beneath his delinquent facade. In both his Confidant link and the main story, Ryuji is often the first person to step in and mediate when his friends begin quarreling, and is quick to support them when things go bad. This is especially prominent after Makoto's brief kidnapping — while the others are still somewhat bitter about her earlier treatment of them (and the fact she got them in trouble with the mob boss they were targeting), he immediately puts it in the past and comforts her. When they go to catch up to her and save her but all the taxis are ignoring them, he jumps into traffic to get one to stop.
Morgana Appearance: Morgana appears as a predominantly black cat with blue eyes and a white muzzle, paws, and tail tip who wears a yellow collar. Morgana has the ability to shapeshift into an anthropomorphic and biped form with a large head and eyes, where the collar turns into a yellow bandana in addition to gaining a utility belt. Morgana lacks any visible cat whiskers in this form. Morgana can transform into a van which is based on the Citroën H Van.
Morgana Personality: Initially, Morgana is extremely rude, arrogant, bratty, and sarcastic. When in battle, he is smug to an obnoxious degree, frequently declaring "It's almost scary how good I am!" after scoring a critical hit or hitting a weak spot. He seems to really enjoy teasing Ryuji, despite clearly caring about him but can be irritated by the latter’s stupidity and immaturity and often expects him to know things he has no way of knowing, which results in him criticizing Ryuji, making Morgana something of an insufferable genius. Even on the rare occasions he gives a compliment, he nearly always follows it up with a backhanded remark e.g. "That's not a bad idea... for you, Ryuji!" In addition to being arrogant, Morgana is also rather self-serving for the first few months; he cares little for the group's goal of reforming society, and only helps them based on a deal; he’ll teach them how to be Thieves in exchange of regaining his memories and true human form. He can also be apathetic and downright callous at times, such as when he couldn't understand why Ryuji and the protagonist were so concerned about the possibility of killing Kamoshida via destroying his palace. Despite his cocky attitude, Morgana is also quite level-headed, having the sense to know when it's best to retreat and fight another day, as well as often warning the others not to let their emotions get the better of them. This is rather ironic given that his Arcana is the Magician, which represents immaturity and acting on one's own initiative. However, this level-headedness is not absolute, as anytime he sees something shiny, usually a Treasure, he loses all sense of reason and starts fawning over it. This proves to be his undoing in Madarame's Palace, where his touching of a golden vase results in the entire team sans Joker getting trapped in a laser cage. He's called out on this by Ryuji, since he was the one who was warning them to be careful up until then. Morgana is also very intelligent, as he displays extensive knowledge about Palaces and the Metaverse, though much of this tends to be hunches. While appearing to be a cat, Morgana claims to be a human, and becomes irritated when called a cat. Morgana also dislikes being thought of as nothing more than a cat, as it lessens his sense of individuality. In spite of this, Morgana often acts like a cat; he frequently self-grooms and has a great love for sushi, as well denying he cares about the party when it's obvious that he does. Despite his feminine name, Morgana declares himself to be male. He constantly attempts to be more masculine than he naturally is, disliking being seen as a cute cat or mascot and wishing to be viewed as manly. This is reflected in the appearance of his Persona Zorro, which is highly muscular. While often rude and snarky, Morgana does have a kind side; he makes it clear to the protagonist that looking after him will be a give-and-take deal and while he often criticizes Ryuji, he draws the line at rubbing salt in the wound; when Ryuji accidentally gets the team caught, Morgana states that the mistake they made was crucial, but not critical, and they would just have to recover from there on. He is also deeply touched by the "Cake Knight Rises" protagonist's passion to fight for his friend, despite otherwise considering the movie to be ridiculous. In addition, Morgana shows a surprisingly gentlemanly side towards Ann, whom he develops a crush on for her kindness, bravery and beauty. That being said, even Ann isn't safe from Morgana's smart remarks at times, which are usually directed towards her terrible acting skills. Morgana is shown to be consistently bad at coming up at names for things; when the group are first picking codenames, he suggests "Thug" for Ryuji, which Ryuji rejects on the spot in favor of "Skull", asking if Morgana's picking a fight with him. On the night they officially form the Phantom Thieves, he suggests "Tilefish Poele" for the name of the group, after a dish he ate earlier, and when the group are coming up with Futaba's code name, he suggests "Goggles", which she describes as "super lame" and convinces her that he has no taste. It gets to the point that when Haru introduces herself as "Beauty Thief", Ann's first assumption is that it was Morgana's idea (which it was). The only solid exception is "Joker", which he chooses because the protagonist is the group's "trump card when it comes to fighting strength." While he attempts to come off as gung-ho and confident, even being described by the other Phantom Thieves as speaking in a "high and mighty" tone, in reality Morgana has little faith in himself and secretly dreads being abandoned and left alone, an insecurity that becomes extremely prominent in Futaba's Palace, when he is forced to admit that there are some things even he can't do, as well as having limited knowledge of Mementos, despite being aware of its existence for a long time. After Makoto and especially Futaba join the team and get the basics on how the Metaverse works, including taking over as the strategist and the Navigator respectively, Morgana starts succumbing to despair of having no sense of self or purpose. This gets worse when (from his perspective) the team, particularly Futaba seems to treat him more like a pet than a teammate, this causes Morgana to believe that no one takes him seriously anymore, while incidentally getting into a heated argument with Ryuji and the team by extension, prompting him to temporarily leave the Phantom Thieves, determined to prove to them and himself that he is a human and not a cat, instead taking Haru under his wing when she gets unintentionally dragged into her father's Palace. After this plan backfires miserably (such as failing to save Haru from her abusive fiancé), he returns to the group, but is initially reluctant to team up with them again. He explains to them that there's no reason for him to stay with them or work together anymore and so he believes they should split up. After some encouragement from Haru, Ann, and, to a lesser extent, Yusuke, he admits that despite having no memory of who is, a life he wants to save or enemy he wants to get revenge on, he wants to stay with the group forever, saying that the Phantom Thieves are the only family he belongs with and apologizes to them for not being honest with them sooner. After the group changes Okumura's heart, he admits that he was so hung up on wanting to be human because he wanted a purpose in life, or rather a reason to live but now he's going to do whatever it takes to ensure the Phantom Thieves succeed.
Ann Takamaki Appearance: Ann has bright blue eyes and ash blonde wavy hair styled in bushy pigtails, with parted side bangs on the right side of her face. She accessorizes with a single yellow hair clip above her left ear, as well as small circular earrings on both ears. It is implied she is of mixed ethnicity; her surname is Japanese implying partial Japanese descent, she mentions she used to live in Finland possibly implying she is of Finnish descent, and her profile mentions she is 1/4 American. She is a relatively tall young woman, standing taller than both Haru and Makoto, who are both a full year older than her.
Ann Takamaki Personality: Ann is a very compassionate, and sweet person, noted by both Morgana and Sojiro. Most of her time spent at Shujin has been that of loneliness, as a half-American she's branded a 'foreigner' despite her birthplace being Japan. This has result in her having to endure untold levels of nasty rumors, and not having many friends except for Shiho Suzui. She's a good judge of character, partially shown in the people she befriends. While she seems distant and quiet at first, partially because of the rumors but also because she's being used by the gym teacher Kamoshida. This changes once she opens up to the protagonist, and decides to see him for who he really is. Even more so when she joins the Thieves themselves, she can be laidback, carefree and genuinely happy. She's also not uncomfortable around guys, to a point where she doesn't mind sleeping in the same room as them or resting her head on Ryuji's back. Her good sense is also what allows her to forgive Makoto, after she decides to hear her side of the story regarding the whole Kamoshida business. The abuse she's had to suffer from both the rumors, and Kamoshida, is part of what makes her the moral center of the Thieves. Thanks, her friend Shiho, who decided to get to know the real Ann, Takamaki decides to show the same courtesy towards others. She questions on whether "changing someone's heart" is the right thing to do, while still ascertaining that the number one priority is to use their abilities to help people in trouble.
Yusuke Kitagawa Appearance: Yusuke has dark blue hair with parted bangs slightly covering his left eye and gray eyes. His in-game character model is noticeably taller and thinner than those of other male characters. His fellow Phantom Thieves Ann and Ryuji both describe him as a "pretty boy." Yusuke does not wear Kosei High's regulation uniform, unlike his fellow student Hifumi Togo. His winter-variant uniform consists of a white gakuran-style shirt embroidered with a fleur-de-lis, fitted black pants, and black loafers. A silver key ring with multiples keys is attached to his belt loop. His summer-variant uniform replaces the white dress shirt with an ultramarine colored button-down which Yusuke wears with the sleeves pushed up to the elbows. His thief outfit consists of a traditional kitsune-style half mask, a black high-collared, puff-sleeved jumpsuit with a white fox tail attached to a striped sash worn across his hips, white motorcycle boots, and bright blue gloves.
Yusuke Kitagawa Personality: Yusuke’s entire life’s passion is comprised of and surrounded by art. He searches for the aesthetic everywhere in his surroundings, from people to places. He sees every opportunity or challenge presented to him as a way to broaden his horizons, and primarily considers how it will benefit him greatly as an artist. He is captivated by the painting of “Sayuri,” and seeks to capture the sense of beauty that it portrays. This passion extends to his mentor, Madarame, who he believed created the painting and who took him in when he was young. As such, Yusuke greatly admired and respected him to the point that he vehemently denied any of the rumors surrounding Madarame. Even when he knows the rumors are true and finds actual proof supporting it, Yusuke claims that the abuse he faced was consensual as a means of keeping a roof over his head, though he eventually sees reason and helps the group defeat his former teacher and guardian. His passion for art is admired and respected by the group, though they also view him as rather strange. At one point, Ann claims that he is "on a different wavelength than other people." However, Yusuke is well-aware that his mind operates differently from that of most people's, to the point of admitting that he's eccentric, and is shown to be downright offended whenever someone makes fun of him for it, or even points it out. Despite his eccentricities, Yusuke is incredibly level-headed and, in many ways, is the most mature of the group. He sees no use in panicking or getting nervous, as it does nothing to help the situation at hand. However, he tends to be more sincere when dealing with subjects he admires from an aesthetic standpoint. For example, he is very direct and respectful when he approaches Ann out of a desire to paint her. However, this sincerity can make him appear pushy, showing that he has a very stubborn, headstrong side, which comes out when he is very inspired. Yusuke also occasionally displays somewhat cold and haughty behavior towards people which are behaving in what he deems as an unseemly manner, or in ways that are against his personal aesthetic. This can be seen especially during his initial encounters with Ryuji and the protagonist, and during an encounter he has with two women who attempt to flirt with him. Additionally, he can be very sharp with people who make mistakes, such as when he calls out Ryuji for getting caught or when he chastises Makoto for being reckless. This even extends to the rest of the group, as when they're framed for murder, he angrily states they shouldn't have rushed into things. Although he can be blunt at times, Yusuke nevertheless tries his hardest to be a gentleman and is overall one of the kindest members of the team. He is usually polite when dealing with others, particularly when compared to the vulgar Ryuji, condescending Morgana and passive-aggressive Akechi. He is also very considerate regarding Futaba's slow growth, as he knows that deep-rooted issues like hers are not something that can be fixed in a few days, and despite arguing with her from time to time, he is also one of the first members to have a normal conversation with her. Yusuke also worries about his classmate, Naoya Makigami's, behavior, suspecting family problems are the cause. His sincerity and willingness to point out what he truly thinks, despite what others' reactions may be, makes him a very loyal, honest ally. Yusuke also claims he donates blood, calling it a "hobby." Having been unhealthily sheltered for most of his life, Yusuke acts with pure intentions, but ultimately is unaccustomed to many of society's norms. The naivete born from it shows more times than not, he in particular being unaware when he is coming off as intrusive until being directly informed. At times, he can cause trouble for other team members, such as being energetically pushy when asking for Ann to be his art model, when he remodels Futaba's Phoenix Ranger Featherman R figurines without her permission. A running gag in the game is how Yusuke spends all his money on things that capture his attention without any foresight, such as on art books or lobsters at the beach because they are aesthetically pleasing. Despite his naivete when it comes to social situations, Yusuke is highly intelligent and his wisdom is evident during Phantom Thief meetings and heists. Over time, Yusuke’s disconnection from reality and his blunt introduction to his mentor’s vain and evil nature becomes a source of internal struggle to him. He wishes to paint purely for the sake of passion and capture the essence of the human heart, but detests that it becomes for the sake of gaining money, shelter and recognition. He realizes that the beauty he began to portray in his paintings became corrupt by society's expectations of him, deeming it as superficial without any meaning. The protagonist eventually helps him understand his calling on a deeper level and also helps him to convey his feelings on canvas properly. As an art student, Yusuke is knowledgeable of and admires other artists as well, as he suggests that "Da Vinci" be his Phantom Thief code name, a reference to Leonardo da Vinci. In his Confidant, he compares the protagonist to Theo, the brother of Vincent van Gogh, who was his greatest supporter. Yusuke is talented at economical dining, using his own self-taught method that thoroughly calculates cost-performance. He likes going for walks (as a bonus, it also saves on travel expenses) and frequently watches people for artistic inspiration. His knowledge of the aesthetics of food, including information about ingredients, cooking methods and servings, is vast, and he’s committed himself to it. However, his monetary situation does not allow him to practice as much as he would like to in reality. Additionally, whenever Yusuke can cook, he tends to get creative with the ingredients, which can result in bizarre meals.
Futaba Sakura Appearance: Futaba is a bespectacled girl with hip length black hair dyed bright orange. Her brown eyes also seem to have some faint purple tones in them, appearing mauve. She wears large black circular glasses, and she is always seen wearing a set of AKG K845BT headphones with red earpads. She seems to be very short, even compared to other girls. Her casual winter outfit consists of multiple layers; she wears an off-shoulder white top with a red splatter-like pattern on her chest with five white asterisks (*****) which are reminiscent of a passport input system in the red splatter, a black tank top underneath that, a dark green jacket with a faux fur trimmed hood, black short shorts, black thigh highs and black knee-high boots. The green jacket has A.F.K. on the back (for "away from keyboard"), although it is difficult to see because of Futaba's long hair. Her casual summer outfit consists of a black tank top with a Tetris image in front, with a green tank top underneath. She wears grey baggy pants with black laces on the bottom, and green sneakers. Her nightwear outfit consists of a black shirt with "JLMK!" (presumably "just let me know") over a white-and-black striped long sleeve shirt and the black short shorts she wears with her winter outfit. Her Metaverse costume consists of a skintight black bodysuit with fluorescent neon green glowing strips and matching black boots with neon green soles. Her mask is a pair of big black goggles with orange lenses. This outfit was inspired by sci-fi movies like Tron.
Futaba Sakura Personality: With a case of social anxiety bordering on agoraphobia, combined with the trauma of losing her mother, Wakaba Isshiki, Futaba is strongly discomfited by going outside. When first introduced, she is a hikikomori who does not attend school and almost never leaves her room. She communicates with the world remotely via the Internet, and her adoptive father Sojiro enables her lifestyle out of guilt that he could not protect her from trauma. Having disconnected herself from humanity and the world beyond her room, Futaba is lonely, lives without passion and enthusiasm, suffers from suicidal depression, and questions the point in her living. When first encountered, Futaba is so consumed with self-loathing that she suppresses her desire to live, causing her Shadow Self to represent her positive thoughts rather than her negative ones. When she first leaves her room after her change of heart, she tends to hide behind the protagonist so that she won't be seen in public, or wears masks which make it impossible to identify her. Her room acts as a sanctuary and a refuge from the chaos and noise of the outside world. Her Arcana is the Hermit, which fits with her desire for isolation and instinctive need to push people away from her. Futaba begins to change after meeting the protagonist and the other Phantom Thieves, opening up to them more and becoming more relaxed around them. Once she's truly comfortable around others, she shows her childish side and likes teasing her friends, most partially Yusuke, as the two of them constantly bickers at times. Although she still has occasional anxiety and odd habits, she comes off as bright, playful and cheerful when with her newfound friends. However, due to being socially inept, Futaba is often extremely blunt, to the point that she seems to have no concept of tactfulness. An example of this is when she insults Mishima by calling him an "NPC" due to his "overwhelming forgettable appearance" and "generic speech style," and says that it would be worse to lie about what he is. She also has a rather ruthless side to her; not only does she have zero qualms with hacking, to the point of bugging the protagonist's phone so she can keep an eye on them during their trip to Hawaii but she cares little for the group's main goal of reforming society; she only wants to find out the truth behind her mother's death, and get revenge on the ones responsible, which she admits is an extremely personal reason. Makoto even states at one point that she's glad she's on their side, with fear of what she'd do if she was their enemy. Even before her mother's death, Futaba was quite a lonely child growing up. Part of this was due to her isolation for being a genius, with other students thinking she was a freak due to her eidetic memory (things she's reminded of when she's given a tour of Shujin), while the other part was due to her mother working long hours to support her, meaning the two hardly ever got to spend time together. It got to the point where Futaba would sometimes think her mother cared more about her research than she did about her, an insecurity that only worsened when her mother died and she was read the fake suicide note. Because of her desire for her mother to be alive again, and the belief that she deserves to die, Futaba ended up creating a Palace where her mother wants her dead. With the help of the Phantom Thieves, however, she realizes that the suicide note was forged and manages to remember the real Wakaba. Futaba is also very fond of sushi and Sojiro's curry, both of which were meals she shared with her mother. Despite being easily the least physically fit member of the Phantom Thieves, to the point that she often sleeps for days at a time, Futaba is also, by a wide margin, the least stereotypically feminine of the female members; she almost always dresses in boy's clothes, seems to have zero domestic skills (judging by her extremely messy room and her frequently eating instant noodles), is obsessed with computers (if the protagonist claims he built his own PC, she asks for details on the GPU, CPU, RAM, etc.), often plays video games, which she sees as a form of escapism, is into sci-fi, as shown by her Phantom Thief suit and her Persona being a UFO, and shows a very perverted side at times, commenting on the other girls' thief suits and the size of Ann's breasts. She is also shown to be heavily reliant on the Internet; she doesn't see the point in going shopping since you can buy anything online and even claims that she can use the Internet as a substitute for going to school. Her lack of refinement is evident in the fact that she addresses Sojiro by his given name, which is considered very impolite in Japan even in the case of adoptive paternal figures. This is probably due to the fact that she has known him her entire life as her mother's close friend, or simply due to her lack of social skills. Sojiro refers to himself as her father, and while he never insists on her calling him "Dad," he becomes very pleased when she begins too occasionally. Futaba also has a soft spot for cats, a trait she shares with Sojiro, and when she realizes Morgana is a part of the Phantom Thieves, she begins teasing him regularly. She is a fan of the show Phoenix Ranger Featherman R as evidenced by her posters and figurine collection and is quite upset when they are fiddled with without her permission, as Yusuke discovers when allowed into her room during the Thieves' attempts to get around her social anxiety. While the resultant argument ends happily, this does cause Yusuke and her to get off on the wrong foot, as she is easily irritated by him (and vice versa), also causing a small friendly rivalry between them. As a result of their constant bickering, Futaba usually calls him "Inari". Nevertheless, they are very close friends, with Yusuke being very considerate regarding her slow growth. Makoto also notes that Futaba has little problem talking to people as long as the subject interests her; the reason she couldn't talk to her normally at first is because she brought up mundane topics like food and the weather, the latter of which means nothing to Futaba since she had been a shut-in for the past few months.
Goro Akechi Appearance: Akechi has shaggy, neck length brown hair with bangs and reddish-brown eyes. He wears a tan peacoat with black buttons, striped black and white tie, black pants, black gloves and black loafers. His casual winter outfit consists of a white long sleeve shirt with flaps under a blue argyle sweater vest, beige pants and brown shoes. As Crow, Akechi wears a princely pure-white regalia with red accents and a red, long-nosed mask. His mask was modeled after those worn by medieval plague doctors to conjure up an image of unapproachability and his formal uniform was designed in the image of an aristocratic mounted guard or honor guard. As with his Robin Hood Persona, it's meant to give the feeling of putting on the air of a champion of justice, with nothing to do with being a Phantom Thief, robber or burglar of any sort. As opposed to the protagonist, Akechi likes to be in the limelight and his design reflects that contrast. Once he reveals his true intentions, Akechi swaps his princely garb for a body-covering, black and dark blue striped outfit. In this form, he has several black studded belts strapped around his legs and arms, a short black cape and clawed gauntlets. He also wears a dark enclosed knight helmet, with a black mask tinted red, resembling a sharp beak, which breaks after his defeat. Much like with Loki's design, it alludes to a lack of agency, and is meant to give a chaotic feeling and invoke the question "what's the real you?" During the third semester in Royal, Akechi seems to have replaced his broken mask with a blue-black version. On days off, he wears a green vest and white collar shirt, both under a brown coat with black buttons, and blue pants while retaining his gloves and loafers. On school days, Akechi wears a tan coat with a red and gray plaid scarf tucked underneath, while keeping his black gloves, pants and shoes from his detective uniform.
Goro Akechi Personality: In public and with all of his relations, Akechi appears to be well-mannered, friendly, humble and charismatic. His achievement of being a high-school detective, coupled with his handsome features, makes him highly popular among the general public and he is commented to be "The Second Coming of the Detective Prince." His intelligence and smooth-talk earned him enough trust from the police to conduct his own investigation despite his young age, working with Sae Niijima, who fully trusts him to assist her in her investigation. He presents himself as having a strong sense of justice, disapproving of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts for their methods. He is candid in expressing his disagreement, but he wants to hear about other people's views in an honest fashion. He quotes Hegel on this, citing that "advancement cannot occur without both thesis and antithesis." He finds an interest in the protagonist because he speaks his mind. Much of Akechi's talents have been naturally nurtured thanks to not only his own open-mindedness and effort but also the support from others he has accepted. This cheery disposition, however, is nothing short of a fraud that has been carefully crafted to grant him a public image and mask his real personality. Due to having been born an illegitimate child, he would be despised by others as he would be nothing more than a scandal for them, even ruining his mother's life and driving her to suicide. He would subsequently be placed into child institutions. Akechi grew up a lonely child and a "nobody" who yearned to be loved; this feeling persisted into his teenage years. The stigma of being an illegitimate child, while also heavily implied to be an impulsive mistake on Shido's part, has haunted Akechi and become the basis of his incredibly misanthropic worldview as well as his legitimate self-loathing. Regardless of how much Akechi tried to change, that hatred that bound him to his past would persist deeply. Akechi's desperation for acknowledgement leads him to study hard to become perfect and develop his outward Detective Prince image in hope to be accepted by people around him. Even while having developed an overwhelming fanbase, Akechi is still disliked among individuals for his affiliation, as he's become quite obviously a fraudulent hero of sorts: not only does the more honest Sojiro Sakura dislike him for his work with the police, but the Phantom Thieves of Hearts themselves find him a menace as his public views and remarks are nothing more than a hindrance to them. Even the public's support doesn't fill the hole in his heart, as he knows he's loved only if he upholds the pretense of being a charismatic idol detective rather than a bastard child; his fans are quick to turn on him anyway if he makes mistakes, such as when the Phantom Thieves triumphed over Kaneshiro and Medjed. As a result towards his overall childhood and situation with Shido, Akechi's sense of justice is hollow and empty, no matter the interpretation: in public, he presents a pacifistic view that condemns the Phantom Thieves' actions even as executioners, believing that they have no right to play with people's hearts no matter the cost; the party strongly disagrees with if not outright ignores his views, which only hinder their genuine attempts at bettering Tokyo. That being said, Akechi otherwise switches to enacting justice blindly, as behind the scenes he becomes a relentless killer that is driven by grudge down to an obsessive degree, this time finding no problem with erasing evil people via murder, viewing himself as no different from the Phantom Thieves, much to their objection. Fitting to the prison and discipline theme of Persona 5, his justice is tantamount to being the sole warden of a panopticon, where the fear of him assassinating anyone who speaks ill of Shido keeps the entire public in line. Despite being a generally pragmatic and competent individual, Akechi has an unintentional sloppy side that sometimes bleeds through in conversations, such as hearing of delicious pancakes from a conversation he walked in on where he shouldn't have been able to understand Morgana and inadvertently taking the spicy takoyaki from the basket. The former in particular cost him his victory against the Phantom Thieves, especially when no other person in Shido's cabinet is smart or attentive enough to get rid of them. Near the final act of Persona 5, his obsession with enacting revenge on his father and his desire to be the hero of his own story overshadows his true feelings for the protagonist and the party. He becomes so desperate that he dismisses the concept of friends and true justice, claiming they are both meaningless and sickening, and even makes himself go psychotic which led to him losing control. This becomes substantial to his downfall, as in spite of his commended strength, his lack of bonds alongside his single-minded goal happens to be the reason why he is defeated. However, after learning how special he is to the protagonist and the party, and the truth of how Shido sees him from the cognitive version of himself, Akechi realizes how foolish he's been for letting his hatred blind him from seeing the truth, and willingly sacrifices himself. It is only after realizing Shido himself has manipulated him why Akechi has realized what the true meaning of justice is: specifically the matter of free will. This would not only cause Akechi to see the error in his original views, but would see just how terrible the things Shido has done to both him and Japan are; he would also understand the Phantom Thieves' views and just how much they differed from his, but at the same time would ascertain that due to his position, he would only drag them down even with his sudden transformation, entrusting the Phantom Thieves to finish the job and stop Shido. The first and the only person that Akechi has ever formed a bond with close to friendship is the protagonist who he has complicated feelings for, albeit innately positive. After meeting the protagonist, for the first time, Akechi is able to experience a simple, normal life with a friend. Unlike most people, the protagonist is honest with him when speaking his mind and actively pursues him. Spending time with the protagonist gives a profound effect on Akechi. He admires yet envies the protagonist, who does not let anything stop him from carving his own path, and thus considers him his rival. He holds the protagonist in high regard to the point that he believes that the Phantom Thieves are nothing without the protagonist's leadership. Persona 5 Maniax as well as Akechi himself in Persona 5 state that despite being overwhelmed with jealousy and contempt for the protagonist, who has everything he doesn't, Akechi says he would have wanted to meet the protagonist earlier, and doesn't deny what Morgana says about him taking a liking to the protagonist. In an interview in Persona 5 The Royal Official Complete Guide, director Kazuhisa Wada comments that Akechi doesn't care much for other people except the protagonist. As a result of their relationship, Akechi is especially attentive to the protagonist. In Persona 5 Royal, on Christmas Eve, Akechi willingly turns himself in to testify against Shido in the protagonist's stead, claiming he does so to repay his debt with him. He is alarmed and disappointed should he ever accept Takuto Maruki's reality, as he believes that it betrays his ideals and their relationship with each other. At the same time, he is relieved each time the protagonist turns Maruki's offer down, knowing that he is resolved to return to their normal reality, and accepting Maruki's offer would be a betrayal of Akechi's wishes. This is also expressed in his navigation lines, whereas he is close to panicking whenever the protagonist is about to or got knocked down, but polite when Sumire was knocked down and scold her severely or even dismissive when she missed her attack. In the third semester of Persona 5 Royal, Akechi no longer cares what others may think of him after rejoining, completely abandoning his detective prince persona. Now perfectly comfortable with his true self, he doesn't mince his words regardless how other people would be affected by it. He won't bother making small talk, directing the conversation straight to the point. While Akechi seems to no longer hold any contempt for the Phantom Thieves, he is no kinder than before with them since they already know his true nature. The game doesn't show Akechi showing his true personality to other people except the Phantom Thieves, but he makes no attempt to hide it either, which surprised Sumire during their first exploration of Maruki's Palace. He also shows a morbid sense of humor, dryly suggesting they kill Maruki when handing him the calling card. He usually speaks in a calm and polite fashion, but when he drops his guise and engages in combat as the Black Mask, his dialogue becomes wildly aggressive and profane. However, he displays this behavior only towards enemies, for example, Shadows. This side of him is elaborated upon further during battle, as he refers to small Shadows as "scum" and delights in killing them. When it comes to his enemies, he is still merciless, seeing no problem in killing if he feels it is necessary. During a conversation in the Thieves Den, Akechi outright states that he would have killed Madarame or Kamoshida if he were to be abused by them like Yusuke or Ann were; in turn, they responded that letting them suffer their guilt for an eternity would be a better punishment than outright killing them. Akechi does show a certain restraint to this side of him, depending on who his opponents are, as shown in Maruki's Palace when he chooses to back out and leave the protagonist to fight Sumire alone: Akechi says he doesn't want to accidentally kill her, but in the Japanese version, he states he doesn't want to accidentally hurt her. He would attempt to kill Maruki as a last resort, to stop him from merging with his Persona.Usually Akechi will use "boku" to refer to himself and "kimi" to refer to other people, which is (usually) considered polite. However, when he's the Black Mask, Akechi will always use "ore" to refer to himself (which is also used by Ryuji) and refer to others as "kisama" or "omae" (the latter of which is used by both Ryuji and Morgana). All of the three pronouns he uses as the Black Mask are considered extremely impolite, and are also used by Shido when he drops his facade to deal with people personally. Having been manipulated and controlled by Shido before, Akechi values free will above all else. For this reason, he is disgusted by Maruki's salvation plan that requires his memories to be distorted and changed, which Akechi sees as no different than when he was controlled by his father. He is determined to live his life following the path that he chooses for himself, without anyone dictating him, even if it means he will die doing so. His overall worldview, even while omitting his characterization in Royal, is comparable to that of a modern-day Robin Hood: although both fight the comfortable and arrogant to support the oppressed, Akechi specifically focuses on authority, or rather the morality that it has bloated, as formed by his upbringing of his unjust reputation and the manipulation he's experienced by Shido himself under the pretense of blissful acknowledgement, as well as Shido's own arrogance that's been built in a similar fashion. Despite his reputation as a detective being a fabrication, Akechi has genuinely sharp, intuitive and innovative deduction and analysis skills, as seen during Niijima's Palace and Maruki's Palace, as well as during Persona Q2; his quick and in-depth thinking allows him to be an effective asset when an ally. He is also extremely cunning, secretly planning a means to counter Shadow Sae's last minute cheating in her Palace without the knowledge of his teammates beforehand. This proves that even without having to fabricate cases, he actually does have what it takes to become a true detective. However, his usage of the Wild Card happens to be very poor, as he relies on only two Personas based on parts of his personalities and doesn't have special bonds with anyone besides the protagonist. The official Persona 5 art book states that Akechi lives alone in a city apartment. His main skill is reasoning, and he has a habit of getting lost in thought during conversations. His hobbies include cycling (specifically with a hybrid bicycle for easy turning in Tokyo), bouldering, and playing fashionable games like darts. His guidebook profile also states that Akechi always makes sure to try out the latest popular dishes in order to use food as a conversation piece. Waiting in long lines for this does not bother him. He uses his cycling hobby to ride around town, gathering stories to utilize in conversation with adults. Since he spends a lot of time with adults, he has a reputation among Tokyo's famous hidden stores and high class restaurants, although in truth he has little interest in the food's flavor.
Makoto Niijima Appearance: Makoto has brown hair in a bob cut with blunt bangs and a French-braid styled headband that matches her hair color. Her eyes are abnormal as they have been depicted as red, although her eye color in her portraits can be interpreted as a reddish-brown. She is of average female height, being taller than Futaba Sakura and Haru Okumura, but slightly shorter than Ann Takamaki. Her winter school uniform appears normal but without the standard blazer. Instead, she wears a black halter vest over a long-sleeve white shirt with a turtleneck (which is different from normal turtlenecks for female students as there is a noticeable zipper). She wears the regulation black and red pleated plaid skirt, black pantyhose and black-brown ankle boots. Her summer school uniform is modified. She wears a white dress shirt with the High Priestess emblem ("BJ") embroidered on the collar instead of a normal polo shirt. Under the regulation skirt, she wears Capri-length black leggings and black tassel loafers with no socks.mHer winter casual clothes consist of a black turtleneck shirt under a teal blue coat, with tight black pants and two-toned brown-tan knee-high boots with dark cuffs. Her summer casual clothes consist of a white dress blouse with a black belt, black capris similar to leggings from her summer school uniform attire and black low heeled Mary Jane shoes. During the trip to Hawaii, Makoto wears her swimsuit, which consists of a white bikini with a skirted bottom.nIn Royal, Makoto’s school outfit is slightly modified for the Third Semester, wearing a large black overcoat and brown gloves. On her days off, she wears a white sweater with a large turtleneck collar, a black skirt, black pantyhose and dress shoes. Additionally, she wears a dark blue coat and brown leather gloves. Her Metaverse outfit consists of a two-toned (dark blue and black) skintight suit that is worn with a long black scarf, a dark gray corset-style leather breastplate, shoulder and knee pads with spikes mixed with boots that sport metal heels and toes, white gloves and an iron mask.
Makoto Niijima Personality: Despite her position as student council president, Makoto is an extremely unpopular student at Shujin Academy. This is because she did nothing to stop Suguru Kamoshida's abuse, resulting in other students labeling her as an arrogant, selfish control freak who knew about the abuse but chose to ignore it because she only cared about getting a good letter of recommendation. The Phantom Thieves initially assume the same of her. In actuality, this happens because Makoto holds no real authority at Shujin, with her position merely making her a glorified tool for the principal to use however he sees fit. In reality, Makoto wanted to do something against Kamoshida, but was too afraid of the principal meddling with her college record in order to protect the P.E. teacher. She also is not above keeping secrets from her friends both out of shame and in order to maintain her image. When Akechi reveals to the group that Sae has a Palace, Makoto admits that she knew as much, and she wanted to go there so Sae might repent, but she kept it a secret because she thought it was "too selfish of a reason." Long before this, this trait led to her hiding the true reason why she didn't stand up against Kamoshida. Feeling overshadowed by her highly successful older sister and being used as a tool, Makoto has almost no sense of self-worth and so has made a habit of keeping her nose down and doing what is expected of her. Her submissive nature is noted by Goro Akechi, who condescendingly refers to her as "the good-girl type of pushover." She also has the poor habit of apologizing immensely and can go as far as making an unnecessary wall of text via IM to do so. After getting involved with the Phantom Thieves, however, Makoto stops denying that she was nothing other than a tool for higher authorities, and vows from then on to fight for what she believes in, which triggers the awakening of her Persona. After the group defeats Junya Kaneshiro, Makoto decides to stay with the Phantom Thieves, saying that she's done being the "exemplary honor student" and that she's going to try to be more honest with herself. Despite appearing prim and proper on the surface, Makoto is actually more of a tomboy: she's trained in aikido, enjoys violent action movies, never wears skirts other than her school uniform (which she wears leggings under) and seems to care little about fashion other than the headband she wears in her hair. Makoto has a compliant temperament that she never breaks out of. She is a level-headed and kind person, almost to a motherly extent. That side of her would be highlighted when she'd help Futaba Sakura and at a few points Morgana. That being said, following her awakening, that discipline would be self-asserted, and in turn she would be strict on others and have an unrestricted and violent way of expressing that. Aside from her athletic ways of fighting, in the English localization this branches out to her voice acting as well. Makoto would be hard on Ryuji Sakamoto due to his consistently nonchalant approach to school life, who would fear her in turn. Morgana would be afraid of her a few times, even if it's over nothing and she only spoke to him with authority, similarly, to treating himself as her subordinate. The other Phantom Thieves and even Iwai of the Mementos Mission manga fear her. Additionally, this same struggle with regulations would make Makoto herself socially awkward at first, as she wouldn't yet realize that there's more to life than that and would actively combat her ignorance with the protagonist's help. At the same time, Makoto herself is actually quite embarrassed of her excessively masculine and dramatic ways of fighting and attire: many times she would complain about her mask and would wish she'd wore anything else. Even when she's praised and admired for her looks, such as by her new friend Haru Okumura, she would only react with shame and dismissal of the topic. And if she were to genuinely get into her role, she would deeply regret it later on, as portrayed in some of her dances in Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight. Despite her immensely serious personality and efforts to be above the more bizarre antics of her friends, Makoto does have her own hidden meek side such as being frightened by hearing ghost stories and the dark. Her panicking would become severe, begging for her older sister's help and at one point even holding onto the protagonist's leg. Makoto is an excellent analytical thinker and strategist, known for correctly deducting how a majority of puzzles in Palaces work on first sight. Bar situations where Akechi joins the party, who directly excels with exploiting the matters of the heart, Makoto performs most of the strategic work. Makoto's relationship with her sister is highly bitter, as Sae considers her as a detriment, yet Makoto constantly attempts to please her by fulfilling the expectations of other people. When she realized her sister's true nature (Where her Leviathan form can be seen briefly appearing for a second before the party battles her), she went to a near breakdown before Akechi assures her that they will get this through. In the end, Makoto wanted to help her sister, directly telling her later that she wanted to heal her heart.
Haru Okumura Appearance: Haru has chin-length curly light auburn hair and brown eyes. She is of average height, being taller than Futaba, but shorter than Ann and Makoto. She wears her winter school's uniform modified to her taste: a pink turtleneck cardigan with short, puffed sleeves and a long-sleeved white shirt underneath. The cardigan is zipped open up to her navel and has two large pockets on the front. She wears the standard black and red tartan skirt, white tights with black carnation flowers and black Mary Jane shoes. Her summer school uniform retains her skirt and shoes, but she wears a light purple knitted sleeveless turtleneck sweater with a dark purple ribbon around her waist and white loose socks. Her summer casual outfit is a transparent greenish white collared dress underneath a white tank top, white pantyhose and cream-colored pumps. Her winter outfit is a white dress shirt with a dark blue ribbon, pale green fluffy coat, pink skirt, white tights and brown shoes. She acquires two more outfits for the third semester in Persona 5 Royal. At school she wears a purple pea coat over her school uniform. She now has a dark sleeved shirt underneath, wears black leggings and lace-up wedge boots instead of her Mary Jane shoes. When outside she wears fur lined mittens and pink earmuffs. On her days off in mid-winter, Haru wears a light pink, fur lined coat dress with a blue belt and translucent material below the skirt. She wears maroon leggings with a white polka dot pattern and heeled ankle shoes. She accessorizes with a light purple beret and tight brown gloves. Her Thief outfit consists of a dark purple cavalier hat with a feather plume tucked into a royal purple hatband, a long-sleeved pale pink blouse with a white neck jabot (held there by a red gem pin), a black corset vest with gold buttons, bloomers that match her hatband, black pantyhose, a holster belt carrying ammo and lace-up pumps. Her mask and gloves are black and violet, respectively.
Haru Okumura Personality: Haru is generally very shy and reserved. At school, she is viewed as eccentric due to her tendency to keep to herself and avoid contact with others as much as possible. She has serious trust issues, finding it difficult to differentiate between who truly values her as a friend, and who merely wants to use her for her family's status. This is due to her past, where not only friends, but adults and teachers would be kind to her just to please her father and smile at her for their own personal gain. Despite this, Haru is an incredibly kind-hearted girl. She becomes fast friends with all of the Phantom Thieves and is the only member of the group Ryuji Sakamoto doesn't argue with on a regular basis. She can also be very awkward, as shown when she first introduces herself to the others as "Beauty Thief," and forgets parts of the script she has rehearsed with Morgana, to the point of saying "We will take the Treasure!" twice in a row, much to Futaba Sakura's annoyance. She later explains that she was trying to be a "heroine of justice," having grown up admiring female superheroes she watched on TV. She loved them for always fighting to protect others and being happy, desiring to be just like them someday. At first, Haru is reluctant to team up with the other Phantom Thieves, saying she can't cooperate with people who don't know what they want to do, and calls them out for turning their backs on Morgana when their goal is supposed to be to help the weak. After the Thieves rescue her and Morgana from her abusive fiancé, she reveals her true intentions; she doesn’t want to get married and deciding to be honest with herself, joins the Thieves to change her father's heart. Despite this, she is initially still reluctant to oppose her father, and as a result hasn't fully awakened to her Persona, though this changes once she learns that her father has no illusions of the kind of man her fiancé is and declares that she is no longer his "subservient puppet." Afterwards, she decides on the codename "Noir" (the French word for "black"), to remind herself that she is operating on the darker side of the law despite her desire to be a heroine of justice. As such, she is rather surprised to discover that the others decided on their codenames based merely on how their outfits look, when she had created such an elaborate backstory for hers. Initially, Haru behaves very formally towards the group, believing that it's her responsibility as the newest member of the team. After being told that whether or not she's new doesn't matter to them, however, she loosens up and becomes much more casual. She calls Makoto "Mako-chan," after declaring that she is the first friend of her own age she's ever had (initially catching Makoto off-guard, but soon considers it refreshing), and calls Morgana "Mona-chan," both in and out of the Metaverse. She also uses affectionate honorifics for everyone (-kun for boys and -chan for girls). This attitude goes both ways, as she dislikes the younger members of the group calling her "Senpai" and asks for them to just call her "Haru." In her spare time, she enjoys tending to her own garden, as well as growing vegetables on the roof of the school. Besides gardening, she also enjoys horror movies. Because of her gentle personality, she is often underestimated, even by her teammates, however she admits she feels excited when Shadows beg for their lives, that cutting down enemies as they approach is a thrill, and that she sees combat as a form of stress relief, hinting that she is somewhat sadistic. Also, after a battle, Haru may say something along the lines of, "Phew, I need more of that!" and despite saying that she gets nervous before combat, she always wants to do it again afterwards. Her sadistic streak is enough to unnerve Makoto, who's well-known among the group for her vicious temper and tendency to take her anger out on Shadows. This sadistic and lethal side is further shown by the fact that if the protagonist cheats on her on Valentine's Day, she will express her anger with an eerie smile on her face, requesting that he take her chocolate before she crushes it, showing a passive-aggressive personality. While the other Phantom Thieves quietly express their distrust in Zenkichi Hasegawa in their first encounter, Haru bluntly tells him that they despise the police in an eerily polite way with a confident smile on her face. It also seems to manifest when she is driving a vehicle; she is a maniacal driver capable of driving from Fukuoka to Kyoto, a trip that should take eight hours, in a single morning even with an accidental detour into Osaka, much to the chagrin of her nauseous and terrified passengers. Regardless, Haru is mature, level-headed, and kind in almost every way. She is also described to be very feminine, as pointed out by Ann. She enjoys helping the Phantom Thieves, as she becomes delighted when she learns that her hobby of vegetable-growing can prove useful to the group's activities and is excited when Makoto proposes a Showtime with her. This is because she wishes to be seen as dependable by them but often worries that she may not be doing good enough and can be fairly self-deprecating when she expresses that doubt (shown when she claims that gardening is the only thing, she's honestly good at and calling herself "weird" during her counseling session with Takuto Maruki). Haru is shown to be easygoing, being very polite to teachers and authorities, and often showing a friendly smile to her peers when talking. She also has a rather refined speaking pattern, which contrasts someone like Ryuji, who speaks in a very casual manner. Haru can sometimes be playful and teasing as well but knows not to push limits and is never taken to a serious degree. As someone raised under the teaching of "do as you're told," Haru is reserved and often lets other people decide for her, even describing herself as someone who's not adept at saying what's on her mind, yet she's aware that this isn't how she wants to live her life. Haru has grown to appreciate just about any freedom she can get, claiming that having the freedom to go out shopping, as opposed to just doing it online, is "a luxury in itself." Additionally, despite the fact that she has been forced to do whatever people wish of her, Haru is very empathetic and can easily see how easy her life is in comparison to the average person, and she really is luckier than everyone else to be born as rich as she is. Haru never seems to bear resentment towards her father despite everything he has put her through. In fact, Haru reacts to the loss of her father with legitimate grief, implying that Okumura did use to genuinely care for his daughter's wellbeing until he made a series of overambitious investments that led to him politically competing with Masayoshi Shido. When meeting her father's killer, she also reacts with anger on par with those of Futaba's. She also confesses to Maruki that if given the chance, she only would've wanted to spend more time with her family, presumably with a father who is more attentive, as she feels that he was only ever focused on work. This most likely resulted in Maruki rewriting history to manifest an ideal Okumura as told by Haru, when he became the new master of Mementos during the January of next year. In Dancing in Starlight, Haru reveals that she was trained in ballet during her youth, after being drawn to it after seeing an exquisite painting of a ballet dancer in her home. Her father allowed her to take up the art, but only because he could boast about it to his peers. She eventually lost her passion for it when her father failed to show up to her recitals, eventually dropping it entirely. Haru also reveals that she is very bad with technology, even struggling with smartphones, and has broken every computer she's ever used. Haru originally attended Shujin at her father's request and struggled to make friends because she was too guarded from others because of her father's status.Ren Amamiya Appearance: Ren has wavy unkempt black hair and dark gray eyes.
Despite his naivete
