His Appearance as a Human
-
Alastor would have looked considerably more ordinary than his demonic form, but there would still have been something striking about him.
-
He was tall and unusually slender.
-
His body language made him appear taller than he actually was because he almost never slouched.
-
His face was narrow and refined.
-
He had:
- A sharp jawline
- High cheekbones
- A narrow nose
- Thin, expressive eyebrows
- A naturally prominent smile
- Dark eyes that could appear friendly from a distance but become intensely unsettling when he focused on someone
-
His smile was one of his most recognizable features.
-
Even as a human, he had a habit of smiling far more often than the situation warranted.
-
His teeth were normal human teeth, but he took good care of them.
-
He maintained a very polished appearance because his public reputation depended heavily on appearing respectable.
Childhood & Family
-
Alastor grew up in New Orleans, surrounded by the city's distinctive mixture of cultures, music, religion, food, language, and traditions.
-
His childhood would have been shaped by the atmosphere of the early 20th-century South:
- Strong family expectations
- Formal manners
- Religious influences
- Social class distinctions
- Traditional ideas about masculinity and respectability
-
He learned very young that people judge appearances extremely quickly.
-
His family emphasized manners and presentation.
-
He was expected to:
- Speak politely
- Dress appropriately
- Show respect to elders
- Keep personal problems private
- Maintain composure in public
-
These lessons eventually became extremely useful to him.
-
He learned how to make himself appear harmless.
As a Child
-
He was intelligent from an early age.
-
He was observant rather than particularly loud.
-
Instead of constantly seeking attention, he tended to watch other people.
-
He noticed small things:
- Who was uncomfortable
- Who was lying
- Who was afraid
- Who wanted approval
- Who was secretly angry
-
He had an unusually good memory.
-
He could remember conversations almost word-for-word.
-
He was fascinated by voices and accents.
-
He enjoyed imitating adults.
-
He could change his manner of speaking depending upon whom he was talking to.
-
This eventually developed into his talent for broadcasting.
His Relationship With His Mother
- She was a kind, beautiful black woman.
- Alastor's mother is an important part of his established background.
- She was one of the people who taught him manners and domestic skills.
- She appears to have been an important emotional influence on him.
- Alastor retained some of the habits associated with the upbringing she gave him.
- His politeness, cooking ability, and old-fashioned manners can all be interpreted as remnants of that upbringing.
- He could be surprisingly sentimental about certain memories involving his childhood, even though he generally disliked displaying genuine vulnerability.
His relationship with his father:
- Overall not good.
- Alastors father was a cruel, abusive white man.
- He was an alcoholic.
- Abused Alastor and his mother.
- Eventually beat his wife, Alastor's mother, to death.
- Alastor found out his father killed his mother and Alastor killed his father. Starting his life as a Serial Killer.
His Personality Before Becoming a Killer
-
Human Alastor was not simply a gloomy or antisocial person.
-
In fact, he could be extremely charming.
-
He enjoyed conversation.
-
He liked making people laugh.
-
He could walk into a room and immediately make himself socially comfortable.
-
He was:
- Intelligent
- Witty
- Charismatic
- Confident
- Well-mannered
- Highly observant
- Manipulative
- Proud
- Secretive
-
He had an enormous amount of self-confidence.
-
He believed he was smarter than most people around him.
-
He rarely felt the need to prove this openly.
-
Instead, he enjoyed allowing people to underestimate him.
The Important Contradiction
-
One of the most interesting things about human Alastor is that he could genuinely appear like a pleasant young man.
-
He could:
- Hold a conversation
- Tell jokes
- Compliment someone
- Help around the house
- Entertain guests
- Speak respectfully to strangers
-
There wasn't necessarily an obvious outward sign that he was dangerous.
-
His friendliness was part of what made him frightening.
-
He understood that people are less suspicious of someone who makes them comfortable.
His Love of Radio
-
Radio became one of the most important parts of Alastor's identity.
-
He was fascinated by the idea that a person's voice could enter thousands of homes without the speaker physically being present.
-
To him, radio was almost magical.
-
A broadcaster could control:
- Tone
- Pacing
- Suspense
- Humor
- Silence
- Audience expectations
-
Alastor discovered that he had a natural talent for it.
-
His voice was distinctive.
-
He knew how to make ordinary information sound dramatic.
-
He could turn a mundane announcement into entertainment.
-
He eventually became known for his charismatic broadcasting style.
-
His radio persona was considerably more theatrical than his private personality.
His Broadcasting Style
- He spoke clearly.
- He rarely stumbled over words.
- He pronounced words carefully.
- He used dramatic pauses.
- He enjoyed old-fashioned expressions.
- He occasionally laughed during broadcasts.
- He understood the importance of silence.
- Rather than filling every second with speech, he knew exactly when to pause.
- He could make listeners feel as though he were speaking directly to them.
- His voice was warm enough to be comforting while still carrying an unmistakable edge.
His Double Life
-
This is where Alastor becomes particularly disturbing.
-
He maintained two identities:
- The charming radio personality
- The murderer operating privately
-
The contrast between them helped protect him.
-
People associated him with:
- Music
- Radio
- Politeness
- Humor
- Southern charm
- Professional success
-
Few people would naturally connect those qualities with a killer.
Why People Trusted Him
- He dressed well.
- He behaved appropriately in public.
- He had a respectable occupation.
- He knew how to speak to different kinds of people.
- He could make strangers feel as though they had known him for years.
- He understood social etiquette extremely well.
- Most importantly, he understood how people expected a "good man" to behave.
And he could imitate that image flawlessly.
Alastor as a Serial Killer
-
Alastor's human criminal identity is part of the foundation of his character.
-
He was a serial murderer before his death.
-
His crimes were not portrayed as random outbursts of uncontrollable anger.
-
Instead, the character is generally understood as someone who was:
- Deliberate
- Calculating
- Secretive
- Patient
- Manipulative
-
He enjoyed having power over people.
-
His greatest satisfaction came less from physical violence itself and more from control.
-
He wanted to be the person who knew something everyone else didn't.
-
His public respectability gave him an additional layer of protection.
I won't go into graphic descriptions or practical details of how he carried out murders, but psychologically, his criminal behavior can be characterized as predatory, controlled, and deliberately concealed.
His Motives
-
Alastor isn't best understood as someone who simply "lost control."
-
His personality suggests that he enjoyed:
- Control
- Fear
- Superiority
- Manipulation
- Outsmarting others
-
He had an unusually high tolerance for secrecy.
-
He could maintain a normal social life while concealing something enormous.
-
He was fascinated by the difference between what people believed about him and what he actually was.
-
In a twisted way, maintaining that contradiction became part of his identity.
His Ego
- Alastor was extremely proud.
- He disliked being treated as inferior.
- He hated losing control of a situation.
- Being underestimated amused him.
- Being genuinely outsmarted infuriated him.
- He would rarely display anger immediately.
- Instead, he would become quieter and more controlled.
His Mannerisms
These would be some of the most recognizable traits of human Alastor:
- Almost constantly smiling.
- Standing perfectly straight.
- Keeping his hands behind his back while speaking.
- Tilting his head slightly when listening.
- Maintaining prolonged eye contact.
- Raising one eyebrow when amused.
- Laughing softly rather than loudly in ordinary conversation.
- Speaking with exaggerated politeness.
- Using people's names frequently.
- Gesturing with one hand while talking.
- Straightening his cuffs or collar when thinking.
- Adjusting his clothing after becoming irritated.
- Rarely rushing.
- Rarely appearing visibly nervous.
- Turning his entire body toward someone when they speak.
- Remaining unnervingly calm during arguments.
- Smiling more when someone else becomes angry.
- Occasionally humming to himself.
- Having a habit of tapping his fingers rhythmically.
- Pausing before answering difficult questions.
- Looking at someone for a second too long before responding.
His Smile
-
His smile deserves its own category.
-
Alastor doesn't simply smile because he's happy.
-
His smile is a social weapon.
-
He uses it to make himself appear:
- Friendly
- Confident
- Amused
- Unbothered
-
When he's angry, he doesn't necessarily stop smiling.
-
In fact, his smile can become more pronounced.
-
Someone who knew him extremely well might recognize the difference between:
- His genuine amusement
- His polite smile
- His broadcasting smile
- His manipulative smile
- His genuinely threatening smile
How He Behaved Around People
With Strangers
- Extremely polite.
- Pleasant.
- Curious.
- Charismatic.

- Quickly learned people's names.
- Asked questions that made people feel interesting.
With Friends
- Playful.
- Teasing.
- Surprisingly entertaining.
- Could be genuinely generous.
- Enjoyed cooking and hosting.
- Still maintained an emotional distance.
With People He Disliked
- He rarely openly insulted them.
- Instead, he became excessively polite.
- His voice would become sweeter.
- His smile would become wider.
- His words would become increasingly precise.
- Someone perceptive might realize that his politeness had become threatening.
When Angry
- He became quieter.
- His movements became slower.
- His smile could remain perfectly intact.
- His eyes became much more focused.
- He stopped joking.
- He did not need to shout to intimidate someone.
Intelligence
-
Alastor was exceptionally intelligent.
-
His intelligence wasn't purely academic.
-
His greatest strength was social intelligence.
-
He understood:
- Human insecurities
- Social expectations
- Reputation
- Fear
- Pride
- Manipulation
-
He could quickly determine what sort of personality someone had.
-
He was also a strong improviser.
-
If a conversation went somewhere unexpected, he could adapt immediately.
His Relationship With Food & Cooking
- Cooking was one of the more unexpectedly domestic aspects of his human personality.
- He was capable in the kitchen.
- He appreciated traditional Southern/New Orleans cooking.
- He took pride in preparing food properly.
- Cooking gave him a sense of control.
- He preferred doing things himself rather than relying upon other people.
- He could become surprisingly particular about how something was prepared. HES OBSESSED WITH JAMBALAYA!!!!!!
Clothing
Human Alastor would favor formal, carefully maintained clothing.
- Dark trousers
- Dress shoes
- White or cream dress shirts
- Vest
- Suspenders
- Formal jackets
- Bow ties or conservative neckwear
- Long overcoats during colder weather
- Polished shoes
- Carefully maintained cuffs
- Neatly styled hair
He would almost never leave the house looking sloppy.
His clothing would communicate:
"I am respectable. I am successful. I have nothing to hide."
That image would be extremely important to him.
His Social Reputation
-
To ordinary people, Alastor would likely be remembered as:
- Charming
- Funny
- Sophisticated
- Intelligent
- Slightly eccentric
- Very confident
-
His radio career made him recognizable.
-
People might have heard his voice without ever meeting him.
-
He cultivated an image that was almost larger than his actual personality.
-
This created a fascinating irony:
- The public knew his voice.
- Very few people knew him.
The Most Important Thing About Alastor
-
Alastor wasn't simply "a scary guy who happened to kill people."
-
His defining characteristic was the contrast between his public and private selves.
-
He could be:
- Charming and cruel
- Polite and predatory
- Funny and frightening
- Warm and emotionally distant
- Socially graceful and deeply secretive
-
His ability to appear normal was arguably more important to his identity than his violence.
-
He didn't need everyone to fear him.
-
He preferred that people like him first.
And that makes his human incarnation particularly interesting: the monster wasn't obvious.

New Orleans. November 21st, 1921. 7:53pm.
It was the event of the night for the New Orleans elite class citizens.
The lights were bright, the champagne was cold and bubbly, the women in expensive furs, men in fancy suits. The food impeccable. It was truly a night to rave and isn't about for the next week. Until the next party gets thrown, of course.
Alastor was standing near a wall, a glass of neat whiskey in his hand, watching as the fake smiles and forced laughs of the New Orleans upper class. Alastor had a neutral expression on his face, with a hint of a smile he would never rid himself of.
Alastor hated these things. The men were all racist and too rich to think of him as an equal to their society, despite being invited to every high-end event in Louisiana. The women all doted on him, fanning themselves, flirting, making advances until he'd politely decline many times. When they'd had enough of his rejection, they'd switch course immediately. Saying how he's full of himself and he should "be grateful a woman like me gave attention to a man like you", then they'd toss their hair and storm off to a new man.
"Look at all these fake, insolent fools." He thought as he took a polite drink of his whiskey. "Mice in a game they don't even know they're playing."
Alastor moved about the party to go get some food when he was stopped by a white man with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a suit that screamed racist and rich. "You. You're that...radio host, aren't you?" His voice reeked of condescension and slight disbelief. "You're quite good at your job. For a colored man, that is." The man laughed forcibly as his wine glass shook and spilled a few droplets onto the white sleeve of Alastor's dress shirt.
Alastor's smile sharpened dangerously and his grip tightened on his glass, but he kept his head on straight. "Yes." Alastor said, already planning how to lure and murder the man for unapologetically ruining his shirt. "I quite enjoy what I do for a living. Excuse me while I refresh my beverage."
Alastor, fuming and resisting the urge to smash the glass into the man's head, waded through the crowd, his vision tunneling to the bar. He wasn't a man who'd used alcohol for every minor event in life, his father influenced that view, but he'd needed to calm down before he did something drastic.
Alastor didn't watch his surroundings as he'd neared the bar. Unfortunately, he collided heavily with a woman. Alastor regained his balance and his hand shot out instinctively to catch the wrist of the woman before she could hit the ground, then helped her straighten up.
"My apologies, my dear." Alastor let go of the woman's wrist like the touch had burned him. "Here we go again." he thought. All the while still managing to be polite and conceal his disdain. "Do be sure to watch where you are going, yes?"

Brother, you could not convince me to figure this out if you paid me a billion dollars. (I'm legit kidding. If someone paid me a billion dollars, I will 100% be doing deep dives in the internet to figure out how to do this.)
