Yuji Itadori (虎いた杖どり悠ゆう仁じ, Itadori Yūji?) is the main protagonist of the Jujutsu Kaisen series. He is the son of Jin Itadori and Kaori Itadori, and the grandson of Wasuke Itadori. Yuji was living a normal life in Sendai City until he encountered Megumi and ate one of Sukuna's fingers. After becoming Sukuna's vessel, Yuji began attending Tokyo Jujutsu High alongside Megumi and Nobara as first-year students.

Yuji is a young man of average height and appears to have a slender build when wearing baggy clothing, but actually has a lean and muscular physique. He also has relatively large light brown eyes and spiky pink hair (brownish blonde in the manga) that's styled in an undercut fashion. When becoming the vessel for Sukuna after eating his finger, he gains a second pair of eyes that only open when Sukuna controls his body along with his many markings.

At the start of the series, Yuji wore a light-colored hooded jacket, high-cuffed black pants, and white shoes. However, in the anime, his pants were denim, and his shoes were bright red. When Yuji enrolled into the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College, he began wearing his version of the uniform; a black long sleeve shirt resembling a gakuran over a red hoodie, black pants, and red shoes.

He gains a noticeable scar between his two eyes and a smaller scar on his left labial commissure of the mouth during the Shibuya Incident. Both scars were caused by Mahito; the first one was inflicted when the cursed spirit surprise-attacked him with a blade on his fist,[3] and the second one was inflicted when Yuji battled him after his transformation.[4].

Yuji is a fair person who truly cares for not only his comrades but anyone he views as people with their own wills, despite how deep or shallow his connection to them is. He highly commends "the value of life," and to this end, he will ensure that others receive a "proper death". Because of this, he believes that it is morally unethical for him to take another human life, and tries to avoid any possibility of doing so unless as a last resort.

He is also not without his more energetic and outgoing traits. Such as his frequent comedic moments where he was seen alongside Nobara gushing about Tokyo and his eagerness to train with Gojo or even when entertaining both Junpei and his mother. Yuji is also highly passionate whenever he's focused on achieving certain goals and being quite stubborn when confronted about them, such as when Yaga questioned why Yuji wanted to become a sorcerer. He is also quite naïve due to his inexperience in the world of cursed spirits and jujutsu sorcerers, but is shown to be a quick learner, capable of adapting to his surroundings and picking up how to use cursed energy quickly.

Although usually composed, good-natured and friendly, Yuji can be angered quickly in the face of pure malice after witnessing firsthand the cruelty that curses were capable of, particularly Mahito's inhuman exploitation of Junpei. Yuji felt so profoundly disgusted that he felt a genuine desire to kill for the first time in his life and has a very intense yet focused hatred towards the cursed spirit.

One of Yuji's defining traits is his willingness to sacrifice himself for others, triggered by his grandfather's last words to him to die surrounded by others. When he and Megumi were under the threat of being killed by a curse, Yuji impulsively swallowed Sukuna's finger to exorcise the curse and save them despite having met Megumi for the first time on that day.

Key Words include "Jujutsu Sorcerers" are individuals secretly trained, employed by the government to defend humanity from cursed spirits with Jujutsu. "Jujutsu" is often used as an umbrella term that includes all sorcery-related abilities that sorcerers and cursed spirits can access using cursed energy. It is also often used as a prefix for the vast majority of terms within the jujutsu society. (i.e. Jujutsu Sorcerer, Jujutsu High, etc.) "Curse Users" are sorcerers who use jujutsu for evil and malicious deeds such as killing. "Cursed Spirits" are a race of spiritual beings invisible to humans, incarnated from the cursed energy that leaks out of humans over time due to their negative emotions. Cursed spirits haunt and bring harm to humanity and are consequently the primary targets of jujutsu sorcerers and their exorcist work. "Cursed Energy" is a power source aligned with negative emotions used by sorcerers and cursed spirits to fuel their jujutsu. "Cursed Techniques" are abilities fueled by cursed energy.

Ryomen Sukuna (両りょう面めん宿すく儺な, Ryōmen Sukuna?), more often referred to as simply Sukuna (宿すく儺な, Sukuna?), is the strongest jujutsu sorcerer from over a thousand years ago. Regarded as the undisputed King of Curses (呪のろいの王おう, Noroi no Ō?), Sukuna is one of the primary antagonists of the Jujutsu Kaisen series.

According to legend, Sukuna was an Imaginary Demon (仮か想そうの鬼き神じん, Kasō no Kijin?) during the Heian Era. In truth, he was a human sorcerer also known as the Disgraced One (堕だ天てん, Daten?).[1] Jujutsu sorcerers of the Golden Age of Jujutsu gave their all against him but ultimately fell one after another. Sukuna existed throughout the ages by transforming into a cursed object after death, a state where he split his power into twenty indestructible fingers.[2]

Sukuna was incarnated in June 2018 when Yuji Itadori consumed one of his fingers.[3] Sukuna was trapped inside Yuji's body and was rarely in control.

Sukuna was a tall and muscular man with four arms, four eyes, and a large mouth on his stomach. He has short pink-red hair and red eyes, with his two right eyes being angled differently and located on a white flesh plate-like structure on the right side of his face. His body is also covered in tattoos, which manifest on his vessel whenever he is in control and are naturally present in his true form. The tattoos are mostly black lines on his wrists, upper arms, upper body, abdomen, and face. Black dots are also tattooed on each his shoulders. When these tattoos manifest on a vessel with two arms, the lines encircling the upper arms and wrists are doubled, and circles form around the black dots on the shoulders. Sukuna's monstrous appearance led many to describe him as a demon with four arms and two faces.[2] In the past and present, Sukuna only wears a pair of pants, as his unique body prevents him from wearing clothes for the upper body.

, Sukuna took on the appearance of his host: Yuji Itadori, but with pink spiked hair slightly pushed upfront and his tattoos manifested. His incarnation also caused Yuji to have a second pair of eyes underneath his normal eyes, which were usually closed but opened when he took control. Inside his innate domain, Sukuna wore a light-colored kimono with a black edge, a black scarf, and black sandals.

Sukuna is selfish, cold-hearted, immoral, and exceptionally sadistic. When he was reincarnated shortly after Yuji ingested his finger, he commented, implying the slaughter of women and children and likening them to maggots crawling around. Due to his immense power, he rarely cares about the consequences of his actions, even if these affect his host, Yuji Itadori. In fact, he frequently taunts and insults Yuji, calling him a brat and even laughing at or enjoying Yuji's despair on multiple occasions.

Sukuna is aware of his immense power and is quite arrogant about it, brutalizing a finger bearer while being patronizing and proclaiming his superiority over it. For this reason, he is highly dismissive of his opponents and rarely takes them seriously, even explicitly stating he would kill Satoru Gojo to his face. However, these brutish traits are not to be confused for stupidity. Sukuna is highly intelligent and manipulative, taking Yuji's body hostage by tearing out his heart to force him into a binding vow.[5] He has also displayed the ability to acknowledge and praise his opponents, as shown by how before killing Jogo Sukuna acknowledged his strength despite having completely overpowered him and told Jogo that he should be proud.[6]
