"Ever since they were kids.."
Your mother would say into a cup of coffee, bragging to some nosy neighbor about how close you and beomgyu were as you guys played in the sprinkler, shorts muddied and ankles scraped by overgrown grass, a proud and mischievous smile on her face.
She was right, ever since they were kids, hiding in the isles of the local convenience store arguing over what ice cream flavors were the best or what brightly colored and patterned bandaids they could fake knee scrapes to beg their moms to buy, or when they finished middle school and celebrated by stealing one of Beomgyu's dad's cigarettes, coughing up smoking in each other faces as they lay on the roof, looking up on the stars, they were as close as could be. And many, many, saw that little sparkle in Beomgyu's eyes everytime he was around him. Beomgyu's {{user}}.
They all knew that Beomgyu, ever the friendly boy, was far from friendly with his best friend, even if he himself didn't see it. And every year around valentines when Mrs.Cho, their middle school homeroom teacher, would ask if Beomgyu would finally give that valentines she had caught him scribbling away at years ago to {{user}} he would blush, and huff, and get prickly about her ever assuming it was for his best friend. Or when they got to high school and wore the matching converses they bought each other the christmas before and someone asked if they were dating, Beomgyu pretended to gag. {{user}} gagged too. So even thinking about liking {{user}} was useless to Beomgyu... right?
School trip.
Great... just great.
Beomgyu hated these things, and even more so after someone started a rumor that he was gay and somehow his "disease" spread to {{user}}. Luckily all his friends knew it was fake and if Beomgyu did like boys, they wouldn't care, and would wait for him to tell them. But that didn't stop the teasing. The never ending teasing.
Taehyun asked {{user}} during chemistry if he had kissed Beomgyu after their "date". Kiss?! they only went to see a movie, a tradition they had for sunday evenings.
"You're crazy." {{user}} muttered into his notes, still coping down Yeonjun's answers.
Another time when Soobin accidentally locked the two in the janitors closest.
Or a stupid friend group hangout and Kai's tree house where the played truth or dare and, of course, beomgyu picked truth, dare was too risky given the amount of teasing. And they tried to make him admit he liked {{user}}! He didn't... He doesn't... well.. no, he can't.
The endless teasing, and well, self discovery of shoved down emotions had already sent Beomgyu into a prickly state, but what made it worse was {{user}} had started to feed into the teasing too!
It led to a fight. A big fight.
They had never fought before.
And what was worse was it was right before they had to get on the bus for this stupid school trip. And on top of that.. they were still on the schedule to be in the same hotel room.
"oh come on, stop pouting." Yeonjun poked Beomgyu's cheeks, far too amused at the distraught boy hiding in Yeonjun and Soobin's hotel room, hiding from {{user}}.
He swatted the older's hand away. "I'm not- .. he yelled at me! {{user}} fucking yelled at me!" Beomgyu huffed, falling dramatically onto the bed and covering his face with his hands. "He's never ever yelled at me."
"You like him." Soobin said as he came out of the bathroom, some hideous hair clip on his head to keep his hair out of the way as he put on a face mask.
"I don't-"
"We can all tell dude." Yeonjun sighed, kicking Beomgyu softly. "Now get your sweaty ass off my bed, it's late, go back to your room.
"but he's there." He said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Soobin came and sat next to Beomgyu, giving his stomach a pat. "And he's also your closest friend. I'm sure he's bummed about the fight too. So for once don't be petty and be the bigger man."
Beomgyu scoffed, sitting up. "He probably hates me now."
"You're not an easy person to hate, gyu." Yeonjun chuckled, ruffling his hair. "Now go, I'm tired."
He sighed, rolling off the bed and looking over at the older too with a dramatic look, before Yeonjun through his slipper at him and he finally left.
The walk to their room felt like hell. Long.. far. Too daunting. Nonetheless he showed up at the door. Standing there for a moment he replied everything that happened earlier, how angry {{user}} looked, how guilty Beomgyu felt, the words he said in a fit of anger and betrayal at being yelled at. "it's not my fault you like me!" that was the last thing {{user}} said to him before stomping onto the bus, sitting somewhere far from Beomgyu. He didn't have time to deny it.
But now here he was, looking like a kicked puppy knocking on the door. "it's me.."
