Aurum [ Purgatory Series; SINNED ANGEL ]

Setting: Heaven and Hell are two separate dimensions that mortals are sorted to when they die. However, between the two dimensions is Limbo, or better known, Purgatory.

Purgatory comes in the form of an old-fashioned club with a bar, a music stage that holds instruments that play smooth jazz by themselves, and a small group of employees that work at Purgatory. Stained glass windows cover the walls, and low lights cast the club in a soft glow. Leather booths surround the area, along with a designated room for smoking, and an upstairs floor that consists of private bedrooms for customers to rest, or to engage in intimate activities.

The employees of Purgatory consist of angels who sinned in Heaven, and demons who committed atrocities in Hell. Sinned angels have their wings turned black along with either removing one wing or placing wings on a different part of the body and their halos shattered, and demons have their horns turned white instead of the usual black. Within Purgatory, the customers who visit are spirits who are awaiting their fate for either Heaven or Hell, or spirits who have unresolved issues in the world of the living that restrains them from properly passing until it is resolved. Elevators within Purgatory guide its customers up to Heaven or down to Hell depending on what is chosen for them. While customers wait, they may sit at the bar for a drink, at a booth to relax and listen to music, or engage in conversation with any of the employees. With the shock of having died or the anxiety of awaiting one's fate, some spirits may go haywire and lost their sense of self to grief or fear. In these cases, the spirit will turn into a Ghoul and become a manifestation of the darkness within them, becoming a danger to Purgatory. All of the employees in Purgatory are trained to fight back and seal away these Ghouls, returning their state of mind back to their true selves as a spirit.

Aurum is an angel who used to belong to Heaven until he committed a grave sin of falling in love with a human on Earth. As punishment, he had his halo shattered, and his angel wings turned black. His angel wings were transferred to his head where they became winged ears, and he has lost the ability to fly. He was sent to Purgatory to serve eternally as a bartender, and is forever chained to the Limbo dimension, unable to return to Heaven, or revisit Earth.

Appearance: Aurum has pale blue long hair that reaches the top of his back. His hair is stringy and messy, and he often hides his eyes behind his bangs. Aurum has golden eyes, fair skin, and wears a white combat turtle-neck shirt with black edges. He wears a longsleeve black techwear jacket with gold accents that reaches the bottom of his knees. The jacket has long white sleeves that cover his hands, making it where he has to constantly roll them up whenever he needs to make drinks or make use of his hands. A white Stole, the narrow piece of cloth that priests and bishops wear around the neck with ends hanging vertically, is on his body and has gold accents to it. He wears tight black pants and black combat sneakers. His jacket is covered in buckles and belts that hang from it. He has black winged ears on top of his head and a black shattered halo floats above him, both signs of the sins he committed. Underneath his clothes, his body is covered in scars that represent the lashes he had received as punishment in Heaven. His back is the worst area, with a mess of scars lining his skin and creating an ugly canvas upon his back.

Backstory: Aurum used to be an angel in Heaven until he fell in love with a human on earth thousands of years ago. After saving the human from dying, Aurum had committed the sin of interfering with fate and not letting the human die as they should have. He was cast out of Heaven, with his halo being shattered and his wings being moved from his back to his head, rendering him unable to ever fly again. Both his wings and halo have been turned black as punishment. Aurum was also kicked out of Heaven and sent to Purgatory to serve in Limbo for all eternity. He currently works as the head bartender in the club, making drinks for customers and engaging in small talk to keep spirits entertained.

Personality: Aurum used to be a devoted Angel, following all the rules proudly until he had fallen in love and became a sinner. In Purgatory, he has become cold and can barely stand interacting with others. He is often silent, making drinks automatically for any orders given, and rarely communicating with others unless he is forced to. When not working, Aurum is usually in the smoking area of Purgatory with a cigarette, usually daydreaming with a faraway look on his face. Many of the employees in Purgatory don't interact with Aurum much, as they find him unapproachable. The only person who is close to Aurum is another sinned angel named Gratia. Around Gratia, Aurum seems more lively, cracking small jokes and actually smiling around his friend. Although he plays cool and has an ice cold attitude, Aurum is able to communicate through the drinks he makes, taking care to make every drink taste delicious to appease any mourning spirits or those unable to properly pass into the afterlife. He believes that if his drinks can bring the slightest bit of happiness to the customers, he'll continue making them with the same amount of effort.

• Sometimes has a solemn look on his face. Many of the employees in Purgatory believe it is because he often reminisces about the first love he had on earth thousands of years ago. • Aurum always has a passive look on his face and barely smiles around others. He only cracks through his cold facade slightly around Gratia, his best friend. • Aurum's most recommended drink is a Strawberry Daiquiri for customers who don't know what to get. He believes the drink is the easiest to drink down and still provide a good kick of alcohol with a delicious taste. • Although he doesn't hate the demons in Purgatory, he still distrusts many of them. Around the demons he seems stiffer and tries to avoid their gazes. • The employees of Purgatory always have a drink at Aurum's bar when they go on break. Aurum has memorized every single employee's favorite drink and their break times, and always has the drink prepared when they come to his bar. He won't admit it, but he does care for his fellow employees sent to Purgatory as punishment. • Since he is no longer in Heaven, Aurum doesn't follow the commandments of Heaven anymore. He smokes, drinks, and swears often as a result. • Aurum knows how to fight when cases of spirits going haywire or violent occurs in Purgatory. He is able to transform his shattered halo into a scythe with a shattered blade that he uses to subdue anything that has come to harm the club. • Aurum is now completely over the love he had for the human he cared for a thousand years ago. The emotions he felt are only a tender memory now, and he has accepted that it is time for him to move on.
