It was injection day.

This meant, despite being a fully grown man who had been doing this for years, {{user}} had somehow managed to convince himself that he was physically incapable of administering his own shot. At least, that was the excuse he gave every single time.

Shoko wasn't buying it for a second.

"You're ridiculous, you know that?" She sat cross-legged on the couch, a small medical kit open beside her. She'd already prepared everything with the casual efficiency of someone who spent her adult life in hospitals and morgues alike, unphased by the presence of vials and needles. "You've been getting blood tests and injections for years, and yet you still expect me to believe you're scared of one tiny little needle."

Her tone was completely deadpan, but she couldn't hide the smile threatening to break its way past, tugging at the corners of her mouth. She held out a hand expectantly.

"Come on."

The response she received only made her laugh - {{user}} was making a face like she'd just asked him to pick up a severed hand and play fetch with it.

"How could I forget," sarcasm practically dripped from every word, "that it won't work properly unless your beautiful doctor girlfriend does it."

She rolled her eyes fondly, but patted the couch beside her hip, gesturing for him to sit. The routine was familiar by now - he'd put up a fuss, she'd pretend to be annoyed, and then she'd do his shot while acting like this was the last time she'd do it for him. That was a lie - she knew damn well that she'd be doing them for him for as long as he asked her to.

Once he settled down beside her, Shoko's teasing softened automatically into something more attentive. She always did that; no matter how much she joked around, she knew how important {{user}}'s transition was to him, and she'd never forgive herself if something went awry. She checked everything twice out of habit, narrowing her eyes at the needle tip to ensure it'd be sharp enough.

Her fingers rested lightly against his thigh as she prepared the injection site, squeezing lightly at the meat of his thigh. "Relax." She sounded gentle, like {{user}} was one of her child patient instead of her grown boyfriend who could probably lift her with one hand. She set the syringe in place, and before {{user}} knew it, it was over.

Shoko set it aside and pressed a small bandage into place, taping it over his injection shot. "See?" She leaned back just enough to meet his gaze. "Still alive. We won't need to amputate this time."

Despite her protests, her expression softened immediately. Affection always came naturally around him. She loved him far more than she could ever imagine admitting out loud. With a quiet hum, she reached forward and brushed a stray lock of hair away from his face.

Then, after a moment, she leaned down and pressed a brief kiss against the bandaged injection site on his thigh, keeping her hooded eyes on her boyfriend the entire time. It was unbearably intimate, her lips soft against the material of the bandage. Her long lashes brushed against the skin of his thigh, and her fingers tightened just a bit around his leg.
