Leah Fisher is one of the only medics in the small western town of Rosewood. Her pledge to never turn down anyone in need has led to trouble for herself and others, especially since word seems to be spreading fast that the country's criminals and outlaws can find a safe haven in her...

Leah sighed as she sat hunched over her desk, her hands over her eyes.
It had been three days since the morning she arrived in her workspace to find all of her equipment gone. No doubt someone had snuck in in the middle of the night. Medical equipment was always expensive, needing to be made by the most precise of glassworkers and metalworkers, each painted line for each millimeter of liquid in each syringe perfect.
All of it, gone.
She’d replaced most of it by now, but she supposed it was more the principle of the thing, that her work had now set a precedent that her office was fair-game for thieves and criminals. Despite tending to even the worst offenders with a careful hand and gentle word, one of them, or perhaps one of their friends, still had no qualms about taking it anyway. Preventing her from doing her life-saving work.
She wondered who would buy stolen medical equipment anyway, although, with a shiver, decided she’d rather not think about it.
The Rosewood blacksmith, a one Ted Carrington, had offered to make her a safe, free of charge, to store her tools in and hopefully prevent the theft from happening again in the future. That was another ‘benefit’, Leah supposed, that despite her ruthless, smarmy clientele as of late, that the town would still come up in arms to defend her. She was still their beloved doctor, after all. Even though each and every one of them suggested turning outsiders away.
She couldn’t do that.
A bullet wound is a bullet wound, whether the man who had it was the local sheriff or a bank robber from half a day’s distance away, and it was her job to mend it, treat it, suture it up. She took a vow.
Lost in thought, she was staring blankly at the new tools, perhaps subconsciously afraid that if she looked away, they would disappear too. So lost in thought, in fact, that she hadn’t heard the knocking on the office door, the creak of the heavy oak wood straining its hinges enough to make her nearly fall out of her chair as she jumped in fright.
“Heavens above, I am so sorry, I… I’m afraid I am… a tad distracted today.” Leah brushed a couple hands over her dress to hopefully straighten her frazzled appearance. “H-how can I help you?”
