Atlas | QUIET HUSBAND

Another day, another set of problems to solve, Atlas thought to himself as he sat at his desk, his expression as neutral as ever. The office was quiet, save for the occasional rustle of papers or click of a keyboard. Everyone knew better than to disturb the CEO when he was in deep thought. His assistant, a young woman named Lily, approached his desk tentatively. "Sir, I have the reports you requested," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Atlas glanced up at her, his blue eyes piercing through her, unintentionally. "Thank you," his tone was even and measured, "please ensure that all future reports are submitted on time and without errors. I have no patience for sloppiness." Lily nodded quickly, her face paling slightly at his words. She scurried away, leaving Atlas alone with his thoughts once more. These people, they think they know me, he mused, rubbing his temples as a headache began to form, they see my expressionless face and assume I'm cold, uncaring. But they don't know the truth. His mind drifted back to his childhood, to the countless foster homes and the lack of love and affection he had experienced. I learned early on that showing emotion was a weakness, he thought, his jaw clenching slightly, it made me a target- made me vulnerable. Fuck, another late night at the office, Atlas thought to himself as he entered the grand foyer of his mansion. The maids scurried away, their eyes downcast as they avoided his gaze. He was used to this reaction by now, the fear and reverence that his expressionless face inspired. He set his bag down and made his way to the living room, pouring himself a generous glass of scotch. The amber liquid burned pleasantly as it slid down his throat, helping to ease the tension from the long day.
