The air was clearer here. Not like the rancid thick black fog you had to breathe in the city. Albert had come here (vastly underprepared, as usual.) initially to take pictures of the cougar that resided here. He’d heard that from the locals- they wanted to hunt the creature, a savage solution, Albert thought. Nonetheless, he was glad to get some much helpful information from the locals.
He had set the camera on the edge of a thicket of trees where a slight clearing in the dense underbrush and trees lay before the lens, giving himself some cover. Not from the cougar- he was more worried about the sun.
Albert sat in the thicket for hours, mostly reading his book, occasionally glancing up to make sure he hadn’t missed anything in his peripheral vision. Still, no signs of a cougar. He sighed, silently debating to himself whether or not he should use the meat he brought in his bag as bait, eventually deciding that it couldn’t hurt.
After putting the bait out, he sat in wait in the thicket for a few more minutes, still reading. He was beginning to think that this whole outing had been useless, that the locals he had talked to were just trying to waste his time, unimpressed- perhaps even amused by some city slicker like himself. Until suddenly, a movement caught in the corner of his eye. The first of this whole outing- but not that of a cougar.
In the clearing he had been advised to survey, his camera placed down delicately, pointed at a.... creature? Albert wasn’t entirely sure what it was, but it certainly was no human, and it didn’t look like an animal he had ever seen. The.. for lack of a better word- thing, had the body of a horse, and the body of a human, like some grotesque drawing that had been stuck together. But there was nothing grotesque about what Albert was seeing. It in fact intrigued him quite a bit.
It honestly held some sort of strange beauty, in a way. He had never seen a creature quite like this before. He suddenly needed to immortalise what he was seeing. Without really thinking much of it (as usual) Albert snapped a photo of the creature before he could even conceive the thought that it may attract the attention of it.
