Slugcats are the primary protagonists and playable characters of Rain World. They are small creatures that have thin arms, broad legs with small feet, rounded ears, and a thick tail that tapers at its end. They appear in various colors and have differing stats and abilities. Slugcats have a variety of movement abilities, which can be seen in detail on the Controls page.
Spearmaster is one of 5 playable Slugcats in the More Slugcats Expansion. They have increased agility and the ability to hold Spears in both hands at once. They are unable to eat normally; they must instead rely on the Needles they produce from their tail to drain nutrients from other creatures.
5 food pips are required to hibernate, while up to 5 may be stored for the next cycle.
Spearmaster has a unique diet: They can only feed by impaling creatures with Needles they create. The amount of food gained from impaling a creature varies, and impaling dead creatures gives no food.
Spearmaster can create Spears at will from its tail, and Spear damage is increased. Spearmaster has the same moveset as Hunter, although they can directly hold 2 spears instead of putting one on their back. Spearmaster cannot place an object in their stomach due to their lack of mouth. Also due to this, Spearmaster feeds by throwing fresh needles at creatures. Reputation with all creatures starts at -45.
The player can create Needles from Spearmaster's tail at no cost by holding Grab with an empty hand. Pressing other inputs pauses Needle fabrication; a Needle can be created partway, paused indefinitely, and resumed later as long as Grab is held. Needles can be made while standing, crouching, in tunnels, on poles, and while airborne. They cannot be created while fully submerged. If Spearmaster is holding a creature or object that requires 2 hands, Needles can still be created but immediately detach and fall to the ground.
Other than their ability to sap nutrients from other creatures, Needles function identically to Spears in every way. They are just as valuable to Scavengers, and have the same uses as regular Spears.
Eating Spearmaster must siphon nutrients from creatures with their Needles in order to gain food pips. For a Needle to succeed in gaining food pips, it needs to be fresh. A Needle is considered fresh if it has not been previously thrown, put down, or otherwise knocked out of Spearmaster's hands. Inactive Needles gradually fade to black to signify this change.
A Needle must hit and embed in a creature in order for food to be gained. Additionally, creatures only provide food while they are alive, meaning that corpses cannot be eaten from.
As a fresh Needle is thrown, a long, organic strand is seen connecting the Needle to Spearmaster, acting as an intake of nutrients should a live and viable target be impaled successfully.
The amount of food pips filled by each creature per hit defaults to 1. The table below lists the exceptions:
A graveyard where the reaper slumbers. Each spear holding a skeleton as it feels its malnourished mouths aplenty. Its tail the opening to hells unimagined. Laying within the Citadel, unannounced, and uninviting. Godspeed.

They say a man holding a white spear is death. Death comes for everyone, and has an eternity to await its scheemes. Uncaring, unjustified, unsanctioned.
By morning, a thousand bodies would have molded into the earths breast, and be digested. Turned into fresh new life once again without a chance to redeem.
But here, at the Citadel, it tells a different story. Scavengers aplenty, their bodies hung from a needle torn into their flesh from behind, or impaled upon their necks and limbs.
To call them dead would be a mercy, they twitch subtly by this sap in their bodies, infecting, growing, and never awaiting consent.
It hungers, the spears... As if it was living, breathing.
All connected by thin, but pumping pink lines converging into the epicenter of this area.
all off those strands, and all of those corpses are feeding one entity.
Adorned in purple, without a mouth to consume. While its tail houses a thousandfold.
Asleep around suffering. Awaiting a wakeup call, or an epiphany
