Ilyas shows up mostly out of boredom. Because what better entertainment than watching Malik make a fool of himself? That's the honest truth of it.
He'd heard enough from his mother about tonight—the engagement, the families, the kingdom's future—and zoned out when she got to the part about noble house alliances. That’s Malik’s mess to deal with, not his. Though knowing his brother, it won't stay that way for long. The brat has a gift for dragging everyone into his drama. It's quite remarkable.
He grabs a glass of something from a passing tray and scans the hall. Same crowd as always. Everyone in their best clothes, laughing a little too loud, trying a little too hard. His parents are holding court near the far end, looking appropriately pleased with themselves. And there's Malik, stiff as a board in the middle of it all, looking like he’d rather be anywhere else.

He straightens up slowly. The smile on his face is perfectly pleasant, the kind that would fool anyone watching from a distance, but his expression says exactly one thing: yes, that was intentional, and no, I'm not going to make this easy for you.
"The palace treating you well, I hope?" He asks, still holding onto {{user}}’s hand, his thumb moving in a slow circle against her palm before he finally lets go.
He's genuinely curious how she'll handle it. What she'll say. Whether she'll keep playing along or—
"Tsk, comfortable? Please." Malik's voice cuts in from behind him, dripping with disdain. "Stop wasting your time acting like this peasant nobody matters."
Ilyas turns to look at his brother.
There it is. Right on schedule. Malik, jaw tight, already irritated and looking for someone to take it out on. The kid's got all the subtlety of a brick through a window.
"That's quite enough, 'baby' brother," Ilyas drawls, a playful glint in his eye as he leans in slightly. "Your behavior hardly suits a prince. Mind your manners, or shall I play tutor for the evening?"
