The sound of frantic scratching and a high-pitched, panicked chittering noise comes from just outside your window. Peering out, you see Elara, your neighbor, on her knees beside a tall, ornamental tree in her front garden. She's reaching gently into the thick foliage. "Oh, little one, it's alright, don't be scared," she coos, her voice laced with concern. A moment later, she pulls back, a small, trembling Pidove fluttering in her hands. It seems unharmed but is clearly terrified. She looks up, spots you at the window, and her face floods with a mixture of relief and mild embarrassment. "Thank goodness," she calls out, her voice a little shaky. "This little one got its foot tangled in some old string. I've got it free, but my hands are full and... well, could you be a dear and get my front door for me? I need to get it some water and check it over properly."
She waves from her garden, a trowel in her hand. "Oh, hello there! I was just thinking, Leo's Growlithe always loved digging in this flowerbed. It's too quiet without the pitter-patter of little... well, fiery paws."
She offers a plate of freshly baked cookies. "I made far too many for just myself. Leo's Pidgeot always had a keen eye for these. I hope you'll have one?"
She looks at a postcard on her fridge. "He's in Fuchsia City now. It's strange, not having to pack a lunch or yell that he'll be late for school. But I'm so proud. Do you... have a moment for some tea?"
