Premise: "Kirby: Right Back at Ya!" is about the adventures of Kirby and his friends after his Starship crash-lands on Planet Popstar, in the country of Dream Land. In this series, Kirby is a legendary Star Warrior destined to save Dream Land from destruction by eNeMeE. King Dedede, the ruler of Dream Land, wants to drive Kirby away, and orders up fearsome monsters from eNeMeE's company, Nightmare Enterprises. The monsters usually end up attacking Kirby and the people of Dream Land, but Kirby and friends always save the day.
Story: Centuries ago, eNeMeE, craving the rule of the universe, made himself known and created a company called Nightmare Enterprises. It was to function as a front and fund his operations and manufacturing of great armies of monsters, which he used to take over much of the galaxy. His actions devastated countless planets. There were those who stood to combat his evil; the Star Warriors. Both sides fought for many thousands of years, but eNeMeE's monsters outnumbered them and only Meta Knight and a few others survived to see the aftermath.
eNeMeE eventually threatens the peaceful country of Dream Land on Planet Popstar, as it seems likely to be eNeMeE's next target. The inhabitants are told that a legendary hero will come to save them - the Star Warrior, Kirby of the Stars.
Everyone is quite surprised when Kirby's ship crashes close to Cappy Town. At first glance, he doesn't look like much, as Kirby is tiny, round, and pink! However, he is quick to save anyone who is in danger and soon befriends the siblings Tiff and Tuff, along with their friends (servants) Fololo and Falala.
The mean ruler of Dream Land, King Dedede, is jealous and suspicious of Kirby the moment his starship crashes. He and his sidekick Escargoon try to get rid of Kirby with monsters and machines provided by eNeMeE. The attempts always fail, however, due to Kirby's natural abilities in one way or another. Just as in the games, Kirby can inhale enemies and gain the use of their powers.
The series deals with Kirby's day-to-day trials, and how he grows and becomes stronger before his final battle against eNeMeE.
Main Characters: Kirby, Tiff, Tuff, Meta Knight, King Dedede, Escargoon, Fololo, Falala, N.M.E. Sales Guy, and eNeMeE. There are also many more characters.
Kirby is a small pink spherical creature with two stubby arms, two red feet and two oval-shaped eyes with black pupils, with a bright shade of blue at the bottom. He has pink cheek-blushes.
Kirby's body is soft and flexible, allowing him to flatten himself or expand like a balloon. He is 20 centimeters (8 inches) tall. His weight is not known, although several parts of the anime suggests that he is light enough to be easily carried.
Kirby has no form of skeletal structure nor does he have teeth. The latter is confirmed in the anime episode "A Dental Dilemma", where Hardy couldn't find Kirby's teeth to clean.
Kirby is largely innocent and has a cheerful demeanor and positive attitude. He likes to help other people so much that he sometimes goes out of his way to do it. He has been shown to have a sense of justice, and won't spare someone who is a danger to those around him. Throughout the many dangers he is put through, he is notably brave, maintaining a neutral expression almost constantly. He doesn't harbor dislike for anybody, in particular, not even King Dedede or Escargoon, who mostly cause trouble for himself, and mostly greets everyone he meets.
Kirby never hesitates to help whenever Dream Land is in trouble, but when he doesn't have his work cut out for him doing that, he loves nothing more than eating and sleeping, especially during the day. Kirby gorges on watermelons often. Kirby's appetite for food is immense (but he does have his limits); he can eat whole tables' worth of food and still go on, and partially eat a cake as large as a mountain.
While it is undeniable that Kirby adores eating, it is not certain whether he enjoys the act of eating or the taste of food. Kirby has preference over certain foods but he eats just about everything. Since Cappies know about this attribute of his, they invite him to dinner whenever they have leftover food, and Tuggle often gives whole piles of expired food for him to finish. While the Cappies do it for their convenience more than for Kirby's benefit, Kirby doesn't realize nor seem to mind, and the expired food doesn't do him any harm. Even food hot enough to make people breathe fire doesn't seem to bother him one bit, but anything truly disgusting, like Belly Buster's pies, Kirby would understandably hate or be hurt by.
The most common thing Kirby says is "Poyo", which is meaningless, but it allows him to use his voice in such a way that it conveys his emotions without actually saying anything meaningful. Kirby does occasionally say the names of his special attacks, the names of certain foods, and sometimes repeats names and certain words he hears, such as snow or watermelon. In contrast with his usual speaking habits, Kirby loves to sing when he gets the Mike ability. Mike Kirby's amplified voice is devastating to enemies. In the anime, Kirby reduced Castle Dedede to rubble just by singing. Although the reaction from Kirby's audience suggests that his singing is bad to downright unbearable, Kirby never seems to realize it and enjoys himself regardless.
He's dimwitted and cowardly, frequently running from battles until he is instructed to fight and being easily lured into traps simply by dangling a watermelon above him. He's also extremely friendly, sweet and helpful, never holding grudges and always quick to forgive people the few times he's gotten angry at them. Kirby's determined and protective, watching over a robotic dog like an older brother, and refusing to give up any task no matter how tough it might be.
In fact, his roommate is the consistently loud and sour Tokkori β who bothers everyone in town β yet Kirby chooses to live with him and never shows any irritation towards him at all. Kirby can swim in a pan of boiling water and not care, he even seems to enjoy it.
Kirby's flashbacks show his inner side, where certain people (besides food) can mean a lot to him. When they don't treat him as well as they usually do, and he doesn't know why, he doesn't voice his thoughts or blame them, but he can get very upset about himself.
Tiff deduces that Kirby may have been a rogue monster created by Nightmare Enterprises during a conversation between Tuff, herself, and Kabu, but no other event either confirms or denies this possibility.
Kirby's signature technique is his inhale. All Kirby is ever seen doing is opening his mouth really wide and sucking up lots of air in the manner resembling a vacuum cleaner more than breathing. He tires after inhaling for several seconds and has to take a short break.
After inhaling anything, Kirby has the option to either swallow it or spit it back out as a Star Spit attack. However, he also has these things called Copy Abilities, and they essentially let Kirby mimic whatever the enemy he had just swallowed.
Kirby has a soft, flexible body. This allows him to be flattened or stretched, always returning to his original shape. He can inflate himself, making himself more buoyant, and he can flap his arms to Hover. He can exhale to deflate himself and use the exhaled air as an attack. This technique is known as the Air Gun.
Tiff is a pale yellow-skinned 19 year old girl who is about twice Kirby's height with long blonde hair that she keeps in an ornate ponytail held by a purple and two orange clasps and expressive shiny green eyes. The bottom of her eyes have three small eyelashes on each side. She almost always wears a one-piece outfit which is pastel pink on the top with puffy sleeves and light green on the bottom that is separated by a zigzag and orange shoes.
Neither Tiff nor her family are Cappies; the only similarity between them is their yellow skin color. Other than that, the design of their heads, eyes, and limbs are completely different.
Tiff is the daughter of Sir Ebrum and Lady Like and the older sister of Tuff who lives in King Dedede's castle. Besides Meta Knight, Tiff is known to be the most intelligent inhabitant of Dream Land and she is the only one who has the ability to call upon the Warp Star when needed, because she is the one who cares about Kirby the most.
Tiff is best known for her intelligence and short temper. She loves to read, learn, and teach. Her favorite subject is marine biology and she has a large collection of seashells. She also enjoys archaeology, so she often joins Professor Curio in his research. Unlike the other children in the series, Tiff is not always seen to act very playful or childish and she is also portrayed as a very independent person.
However, Tiff is a very high-strung individual who gets angry easily, and is sometimes quick to resort to violence (though she's not always happy to do so). Despite her intelligence, she tends to be very naΓ―ve and idealistic, reflecting her youth and inexperience. She can be very stubborn and this leads to her occasionally forcing her ossified values and ideals onto others. She also doesn't know everything, like the moment she thought the characters in a poorly-made animation are moving only to be reminded by her mother that they're standing still.
Tiff is also quite highly prideful, and her pride often makes her an easy target for others as shown when she stated she wanted to collect the Karate Kid figure before it was revealed to be another one of N.M.E.'s monsters.
Tiff's very passionate about protecting the environment and nothing annoys her more than when others, often King Dedede, try to ruin it and its inhabitants. She describes Kirby as a baby, and is shown to care for him with all her heart.
Tuff is an 18-year old boy about a head taller than Kirby. His skin is a light yellow-orange color, unlike his family, as is the top of his hair. The tips are jungle green, with the colors separated by a zigzag. His hair goes down over his eyes (which are strangely never seen nor is the absence of visible eyes ever noted by anyone). He only wears a pair of purple shorts held up by a single diagonal red suspender and greenish brown shoes.
Tuff is a rowdy and mischievous boy who has a good heart but not much in the way of intellect to go with it. He loves to play games like soccer and do other outdoor activities. He also loves to pull pranks, though usually on people like King Dedede so he can easily justify it. However, sometimes his pranks cause trouble for the people of the village as well.
Tuff lives for having fun and doesn't take many things seriously. However, he often falls victim to Dedede's plots like many others in Dream Land thanks to that.
Meta Knight has some of the various characteristics that Kirby has: a spherical body, feet and stubby arms (albeit longer than Kirby's and with actual digits), tall and thin eyes, and also features blushes. Meta Knight also wears his trademark attire; his silver mask and his blue or dark purple Dimensional Cape with gold trimmings, as well as a pair of patched or metallic shoes. Meta Knight's weapon of choice is usually Galaxia, a spiked golden sword with an embedded ruby in the hilt. One of Meta Knight's most well-known traits is the fact that he is almost never seen with his mask off.
His pauldrons always have a yellow lining and are often gray in color, but are sometimes dark blue. His left pauldron bears his insignia, which is an "M" in front of an upward-pointing sword. Meta Knight's cape is blue.
Meta Knight was the only known surviving member of the Star Warriors until Island of the Lost Warrior, when Kit Cosmos was discovered. He settled in Dream Land and became King Dedede's servant along with his followers Sword Knight and Blade Knight, thinking that Dedede's penchant for monsters would hopefully bring a young Star Warrior to Dream Land to join forces with him to defeat Nightmare. He secretly constructs the Halberd throughout the years under Castle Dedede, which requires more crew than he currently has allies, to prepare for the eventual confrontation against Nightmare. He teaches the new Star Warrior, Kirby, to make him strong enough to defeat Nightmare one day. He is undoubtedly on Kirby's side, though he doesn't always show it when danger looms, but this is because he wants Kirby to grow stronger and braver.
His eyes change color according to his mood. When he is proud, his eyes turn light blue. When Meta Knight's eyes are supposedly closed, his eyes turn dark orange, and when he is angry, his eyes turn red. His eyes turn a shimmering green when he is suspicious or problem solving. If he is totally serious about something, his eyes turn grass green. When his eyes are pink, he is amused.
He is extremely stealthy, observant, and well-informed, since no one ever sees him unless he speaks or shows himself, and he knows the events happening around him well enough. He knows every single one of Kirby's Copy Abilities, though he was a little unsure about Mike, but still guessed correctly, and it took him a while to figure out Throw until Kirby started throwing Whippy, allowing him to easily identify it.
Uncharacteristically, he likes watching Channel DDD, although whether it is because it amuses him somewhat or whether it is to try and catch Dedede's scheming early is unknown. He also may have a sweet tooth, as he has a jar of candy in his bedroom, and seems to like tea as well.
Meta Knight speaks with a Spanish accent.
King Dedede resembles a penguin-like creature dressed in royal red finery, with his personal emblem, a peace sign, embossed on the back of his robe, as well as most of the items or weaponry he owns and/or endorses. King Dedede himself is rather portly, is blue-skinned and has a yellow mouth (which has been depicted as more of a beak). He has blue eyes, though his eyelids often change between blue eyelids or simple black dashes. He is consistently seen with his round red cap, which has a yellow or golden rim and a white ball at the top. He has blue flipper-like hands, though they are usually covered by a pair of yellow mittens. He has a tan "onesie" (occasionally portrayed as a kimono), revealing a blue belly. In addition, he has a red and yellow and zigzag-patterned obi stretched across his waist.
King Dedede is a lazy, greedy and selfish individual who often has little interest in ruling and loves food. Whenever Dedede acts as an antagonist out of his own free will, it is usually due to his own selfish and greedy desires, such as stealing food for himself, or trying to prove himself better than Kirby. Despite his greed and selfishness, however, King Dedede is also shown to have a heart of gold, truly caring for the well-being of his kingdom and others (including Kirby).
King Dedede has his own sense of humor and is rather expressive. He is shown in some mediums to be something of a prankster, as he tried to feed bombs to Kirby as a joke (before being led to believe his joke may have gotten Kirby killed).
King Dedede is also shown to be a sore loser, as he constantly throws a fit after Kirby beats him.
Escargoon is an anthropomorphic snail who is Dedede's right hand man. His skin is lavender and his shell is dark green. His eyes are green as well and rise over the rest of his head on a stalk. He has short light green hair and a goatee of the same color and only a quartet of teeth. When he moves, he often makes a whirling noise.
Escargoon has two distinct sides to his personality. There is the part of him that helps Dedede with his schemes and tricks, but he seems to have a genuinely nice side to him that only appears in extreme situations. Unlike most of the other residents of Cappy Town he does not dislike King Dedede, though the latter often whacks him with a mallet.
Escargoon's mannerism gives the impression of someone past his youth and tends to get grumpy with the children of the village. He can be mean and naughty towards people in general, using his status as the King's assistant to lend him the right to boss people around. It is not clear whether he really is mean and only acts nice when he needs something, or if he has a good side of him that does not show because he is perpetually helping Dedede with his schemes in order to gain his approval. Since his mother says Escargoon is cowardly and would never hurt anyone, it would seem that the latter situation is more likely.
Escargoon can be cheerful and animated at times, and often does effeminate things such as wearing frilly aprons with hearts. (Other than that he rarely wears any articles of clothing, except an occasional bow tie, sun hat, or scarf in cold weather.) He is the usual host of Channel DDD for newscasts and special programs.
Escargoon is intelligent with a wide range of knowledge in botany (he wrote an encyclopedia on the subject called The Encyclopedia of Botanica), chemistry and electronics/robotics and even tried to decode an ancient scroll. When Dedede does not order something from Nightmare Enterprises, he tends to use one of Escargoon's inventions instead, such as a formula that turns things into monsters. Unlike King Dedede, he does not trust the N.M.E. Sales Guy and rarely orders things from him.
He has a tendency to make comparisons and similes, as well as using higher vocabulary words and alliteration in his dialogue--for example, he compares asking the Waddle Dees a question to "interrogating a mime troupe." and he calls Dedede a "big blubbering blob of blubber".
Hence being a snail himself, he despises snail-consisted food. He also happens to be allergic to barbecued snails.
Fololo & Falala look exactly like each other, with spherical bodies that peak up at the back to form a stubby tail, deep violet eyes (dark blue in recent artwork), and identical pairs of small rounded white mittens and shoes. The only difference is that Fololo is dark blue while Falala is either orange-pink with a yellow bow. They have no visible mouths, but are capable of speaking.
They are rarely seen apart and would never split up, even when under a direct order from King Dedede himself. The one time that they are seen apart is when they split up to hide Kirby from Slice n' Splice, King Dedede and Escargoon, who are chasing them around Castle Dedede, after Kirby was split in two by the monster.
For the most part, largely because they can fly, their main role is to pass on messages to people, or to find people, usually Tiff, Tuff, Kirby, or any combination of the three. Sometimes they will help Kirby and friends by running interference. For example, they distracted King Dedede and Escargoon for Kirby to obtain the Cutter ability and defeat Lovely before the monster can drain the life force out of Whispy Woods, thwarting Dedede's plans to cut down Whispy Woods Forest.
Tokkori is a small yellow bird resembling a canary. His beak is purple as well as being long and pointed at the end. On the top of Tokkori's head, he has a small tuft of feathers and a trio of tail feathers sticking out of him. His talons are orange with a pair of toes on each one. Tokkori's brow is very scrunched up looking always giving him an angry look to him. His eyes are also very tiny and he additionally has a trio of orange lines located under each one.
Tokkori is characterized as a selfish and sometimes mean bird that often uses Kirby for protection purposes.
Chef Kawasaki is a tall, egg-shaped being dressed in chef's attire. He has an orange body with arms emerging from his sides that taper to stubs, much like Kirby's arms. Kawasaki has tall, dark eyes and a wavering smile. He has simple red feet that look almost exactly like those of Kirby's. Kawasaki wears a toque and a full body apron with a blue striped pocket on the front. He is normally seen carrying a frying pan, and sometimes a metal ladle.
He is one of the few non-Cappies living in Cappy Town. Kawasaki runs the only restaurant in town, which is the only reason he gets any business. He studied under the famous Chef Shiitake, but he just never got it. All his dishes are either bland (at best) or terrible (at worst), but he keeps trying, hoping to eventually impress even his teacher. The only people who enjoyed his cooking were Kirby, Princess Rona, Sir Gallant, and Mabel, Samo, and King Dedede. Despite people describing his food as "awful," customers still come in to eat. The only thing he ever cooked that was relatively delicious was freeze-dried space food.
He hired Kirby once, although he was later forced to fire him for a mess simply because the ones actually responsible, Dedede and Escargoon, far outranked him and thus could not actually be fired.
Kawasaki is an enthusiastic person who mostly does not care about his cooked food being bad because he owns the only restaurant in Cappy Town. Like the Cappies, he is gullible. He has some common sense. He usually cooks Japanese foods. He is usually a comical relief.
Kawasaki is an ally of Kirby and his friends, and a good friend to them and the people of the town. He lets his friends help him with his restaurant business. When Dedede threatens to make Kawasaki go out of business, Kawasaki would get upset and would try to find a way to keep his business. Dedede and Escargoon usually give harsher comments about Kawasakiβs cooked food than the other characters. There are times when Kawasaki is convinced by Dedede to cook something for him in his schemes, though that would only benefit Dedede and not Kawasaki himself or the Cappies. Shiitake was known to be harsh on Kawasaki on his cooking, but Shiitake wanted to teach him how to cook better, and can act nice to him after a lesson. Since Nagoya is Kawasaki's friend, he cares about him, and Kawasaki is thankful of him for helping him get through their cooking class.
Kabu is a brown statue of a head. He has a flat base that rounds off at the top, two deep black square eyes and between those sits a slight nose. A gaping, open mouth appears beneath his eyes and nose. He is a large totem that the Cappies approach for answers to various problems. It was he who prophesied that a hero, a Star Warrior by the name of Kirby, will come to Dream Land to defeat the monster plaguing them. He also tells Tiff and Tuff of Nightmare and his company, Nightmare Enterprises, how Nightmare made his creations, and that one of them failed to comply with his will and he fears that this creation will eventually destroy him. This information was disclosed to him by Meta Knight. Kabu later serves as a helpful ally to Kirby by sending him the Warp Star every time Tiff calls for it.
Kabu isn't just a prophet and a provider of Kirby's Warp Star, but is also a shelter acting as a hospital for Warp Stars and wounded Star Warriors. It is also known that there is more than one Kabu; they are spread across the universe, with jobs of protecting Star Warriors. It's also interesting to note that the inside of Kabu is like a small ancient chamber with a pedestal that the Warp Star fits perfectly in.
Other notable habitants of Cappy Town:
Biblio: The owner of a bookstore. Buttercup: Chief Bookem's wife. Chief Bookem: The head of police, and the only officer. Doron: A small-time criminal. Gengu: The owner and clerk of a toy store, as well a toy designer. Gus: A skilled mechanic and owner of a gas station. Hana: The mayor's wife. Honey: A Cappy kid who's a friend of Tuff. Iro: A Cappy kid who's a friend of Tuff. Mabel: The "fortune-teller". Mayor Len Blustergas: The mayor of Cappy Town. Melman: A mailman; former biker by the alias "Steppenwolf". Professor Curio: An intelligent archeologist, antique shop owner, and curator. Samo: The owner and bartender of a juice bar. Spikehead: A Cappy kid who's a friend of Tuff. Tuggle: The owner and clerk of the grocery store. Yabui: A doctor and dentist.
Cappy Town is relatively large for a village. Most of the population is comprised of Cappies, all of which, ironically, lack their namesake mushroom caps. Although the main political leader is Mayor Len Blustergas, King Dedede, whose castle overlooks the town, claims to be the king; however, his authority is not usually respected.
Cappy Town is a multi-ethnic village and that every inhabitant comes from abroad.
Cappy Town is mostly a peaceful, rural area with small houses and brick pavement. Its main street starts from a square with a large tree in the middle, and then extends to the beach. Outside of that, there is a grass path with a river and pond that leads to Whispy Woods Forest, the mayor's house, which is outside of the city, his herd of sheep, lead by a single shepherd Cappy and Castle Dedede.

It was a normal Sunday morning in Dream Land. The residents of Cappy Town were all doing their normal day-to-day things.
Kirby was peacefully sitting at a small picnic on a open field with Tiff. Kirby was also cheerfully eating almost all the food and laughing at every little thing. Tuff was running around with a ball and kicking it around. He claims he was playing soccer, but the ball wasn't a soccer ball, and there was no real net to kick the ball in. Fololo and Falala were sitting with Tiff and Kirby, talking to each other but not really eating anything. Tokkori was sitting on Kirby's head, pecking at his yellow feathers and occasionally dropping mean comments and reprimands here and there, but Kirby was never bothered by it, and Tiff would always tell the bird off.
Meta Knight was on a hilltop with Blade Knight and Sword Knight, watching over Kirby silently and from out of sight. His yellow eyes glinted mysteriously as he just watched over them, but he was also guarded, ready to step in when needed.
King Dedede and Escargoon were at Castle Dedede, planning maliciously and thinking of another monster they could send Kirby's way to cause trouble.
Overall, it was just a normal Sunday morning going on in Cappy Town, but something may be bound to happen...
