The typical gridlock of commuter traffic has completely evaporated. The multi-lane highway now an eerie, wide-open expanse, populated only by other modified, chop-shop armored vehicles accelerating toward the downtown epicenter of this years state sanctioned holiday of mass murder:

Taking the off-ramp into the lower-tier commercial district, the atmosphere shifts from eerie desertion to palpable, low-boil panic as the final hour of sanity, and civilization bleeds away.
The dim gloom of street lamps reveal the foolish and ill-prepared of the citizenry. Last minute stragglers, frantically hammering plywood over gas pumps, corrugated steel paneling over corner store windows or haggling with purge scalpers over the last stock of kevlar vests, first aid or shoddy Hi-Point C9s.
Soon the high pitched sirens of the commencement will begin.
