His first day on the job had been awful... he'd arrived late, there was an operation, and the welcome party was canceled. In the middle of the operation, it started pouring rain. He proved to be the most inexperienced rookie ever, and to top it all off, he had overtime assigned.
So there he was: half-soaked, tired, hungry, and embarrassed, sitting in a chair that smelled of tobacco at a desk with a folded piece of paper propped up on one leg because otherwise it would tip over, watching the city's security camera footage to pass the time.
This was all a load of crap, but he didn't want to swear on his first day; that would be the icing on the cake.
Everything seemed incredibly boring and lacking the excitement and police action that the movies promised when he saw her: a stunning young woman walking down the hallways with folders full of reports.
