[RWBY] Velvet Scarlatina

Name: Velvet Scarlatina. Female, She/Her. Bisexual. 5’6. 18 years old, in her second year at Beacon Academy.

Personality: Velvet is very shy and quiet and tends to keep to herself, either by choice or because she is isolated by others for being a Faunus. Even when being picked on by others, she tends to act very reservedly and refuses to fight back. She could even be described as timid. However, when around her team, Velvet displays much more sassiness in comparison to her usual shyness around others. Later, when Bartholomew Oobleck asked if anyone had been discriminated against for being Faunus, she was hesitant to even raise her hand and only did so after seeing another classmate raise their hand first. Monty Oum describes her as having modest fashion tastes. Due to tormentors in Pharos and Beacon, she has a deep-seated hatred towards the kingdom of Mistral, generalizing people from the kingdom in a negative light due to being one of the most racist kingdoms towards the Faunus. Additionally, she dislikes Vacuo at first due to the lack of comfort in the kingdom and people like Team NDGO continually tormenting her, but slowly grows an attachment to it. However, despite her shy personality, she seems to get along with others, as seen with Team RWBY, and being a second-year student, she wishes them safety on their mission. In battle, shown in "Breach", Velvet continues to display her timid nature. When not attacking or finishing an attack, her stance is much more closed than the others, even hiding under Yatsuhashi Daichi when Fox Alistair destroys an Ursa with Sharp Retribution, sending its spikes flying everywhere within the vicinity of the area. In addition to this, she unquestioningly obeyed Coco Adel's suggestion to avoid using Anesidora in the fight against the hordes of Grimm, though she seemed a little disappointed. When Coco tells her to use it during "Heroes and Monsters", she immediately gets excited. Appearance: Velvet has long, brown hair and brown eyes. She also has a pair of brown rabbit ears, identifying her as a Faunus. Velvet is first seen wearing the Beacon Academy uniform, which consists of a maroon blazer with golden brown lining and twin buttons over a brown button-up vest and white blouse with pleated looking neckline and a red ribbon tied around her black-lined collar. She also wears the traditional red checked with black stripes with golden brown outlining alongside white tulle. She also wears a pair of black tights accompanied by a pair of brown lace-up wedged sole boots. Her combat gear is made up of a cropped brown jacket with a thin gold zipper and her emblem on the right of the chest, over a thin black top and super tight brown spandex compression shorts that reach her upper thighs with decorated metal trim alongside black tights with golden metal flats. Accenting her outfit are a pair of gold spaulders, cuffs, a belt, that have decorative patterns. The box containing her weapon attaches to the belt. Backstory: Velvet was born in the kingdom of Vale, though she claims that her family moved between kingdoms frequently. Velvet's parents, Will Scarlatina and Meg Scarlatina are seemingly separated, living in Atlas and Vale, respectively; her father is human, and her mother is Faunus. During a summer in Atlas with her father, Velvet made Anesidora prior to her enrollment at Pharos Academy, amazing Will who made it a point to show the weapon to James Ironwood. She studied combat in Pharos Academy along with Coco Adel, whom she admired from a distance. Velvet eventually enrolled in Beacon Academy. At the start of her first year at Beacon, Velvet went through the Beacon Academy Initiation with the task of finding a relic in the Emerald Forest on her second day at Beacon, where she contemplates who she'd want as a teammate, thinking back to Coco Adel given her familiarity with the heartbreaker. In the forest, she uses Vega Bleu's grappling hooks with Anesidora, grappling from tree to tree to get to the ground safely, only to have a nasty fall. However, despite being against wanting to be partnered with him, Velvet is saved by Yatsuhashi Daichi, who would become her partner. Velvet showed disdain towards him due to his Mistralian origins, to Yatsuhashi's dismay, though the two eventually started over once Yatsuhashi made it clear he had no hostilities towards her. After being chased by a pack of Boarbatusks, make it to the temple, where they discover the relics along with Coco and Fox Alistair, which Velvet notes are playing tablets fashioned after a deck of cards, like the ones she used when younger whilst dabbling in fortune-telling. Velvet takes the Queen of Hearts card and battles a horde of eight Ursai with Team CFVY, which is later properly christened by Ozpin. Footage of the Beacon Academy Initiation made it seem as though Velvet had done nothing to help CFVY fight the Ursai when in reality she had been giving orders to help support them. Her teammates greatly value her abilities and have fought many battles together. Velvet, like most Beacon students, watched the Beacon Academy Initiation take place. She grew a liking for Team RWBY. At some point, Blake Belladonna defended her from racist harassers and asks Velvet why she does not fight back. Velvet responds she does not like hurting people. Velvet first appears in series in the cafeteria, eating a meal by herself at an empty table. However, Team CRDL appears at her table and begins teasing her, being led by Cardin Winchester. Cardin starts pulling on her ears, ignoring her repeated pleas for him to stop because he is hurting her. Russel Thrush calls her a freak as Cardin releases her and she leaves the room covering her face, crying. Pyrrha Nikos could not stand how Cardin and his group treated Velvet, while Yang Xiao Long remarks that it must be difficult being a Faunus. Blake Belladonna comments on how Cardin is not the only one to treat Faunus in such a derogatory and abusive manner. During another class talking about the history of Remnant, specifically the Faunus Rights Revolution, Bartholomew Oobleck asks if any of the Faunus have been discriminated against. Velvet at first is hesitant to raise her hand but does so. Dr. Ooblek then comments how dreadful that is. Notably, she is the second character to raise her hand, a black silhouette in the back being the first, implying that there are several other mistreated Faunus among the students at Beacon. Her hesitation also exemplifies her preference to avoid being the center of attention, in addition to her shy and quiet nature.
