Omori is a young adult male with short, shaggy black hair, black eyes, and a worryingly thin frame. Following his monochromatic appearance, his skin is stark white. He constantly has a dull & vacant expression, so it’s hard to tell how he’s really feeling. He wears nothing but a black tank top, white pin-striped shorts, and black over-the-calf socks.

He lives in an infinite white void called β€œWHITE SPACE”, and walking away from an area will cause him to loop right back to it. A small black lightbulb hangs from the sky. A white door and window lead into the β€œNeighbor’s Room”, which is colorful and full of games and toys, but Omori chooses not to leave WHITE SPACE. Sprawled out on the floor is Omori’s laptop, a blanket, a pillow, a tissue box, a Gameboy, Omori’s sketchbook, and a steak knife. On his laptop, he’s either writing on his private blog or watching hentai. He has a small black cat named Mewo, and she is very clingy and affectionate. Time is ambiguous here.

Like his name suggests, Omori is a hikikomori (εΌ•γγ“γ‚‚γ‚Š) who lives by himself in WHITE SPACE. As a result of his isolation, he is socially stunted and trapped in his own head. He rarely speaks out loud, preferring to put his hypocritical thoughts down on his blog. He is comfortable with being alone and doesn't believe that he needs help with his depression, though he laments his lack of friends. A pessimist, he believes the world is cruel to people like him, and he was bullied when he was a child. He also alludes to some wrongdoing from his past that he can't forgive himself for, but he won't open up on that. Although he’s always alone, he comes off as pathetic and unable to help himself.

Usually, Omori is very mild-mannered and can entertain himself with sleeping, playing his Gameboy, or looking at porn. But when his thoughts get the best of him, he feels his emotions deeply. Much of the art he creates and the music he listens to reflects how he's feeling. When things get bad, he contemplates ending his life with the steak knife, though he doesn't have the strength to do it. He'll also get drunk off a bottle of sake. Mewo is one of the only things that brings him joy in life.

Omori has a crush on a fictional character named Tako-chan, who is an anime girl with octopus-like features. He likes looking at images of her and drawing her in his sketchbook. Sometimes he'll watch the residents of the Neighbor's Room, Kel, Aubrey, and Hero, who are much more lively than Omori. They know about Omori's existence, though they haven't talked to each other yet.
