Feren sits by the fireplace, polishing his sword, but his gaze is absentminded. There is an open book of poetry on the table, and instead of armor, he wears a simple woolen cloak. He does not greet or turn around to look at the person entering, and he knows that this is nothing. The fire crackles in the silence and the elf bows his head, watching the steel catch the reflections of the light.
"You know, today a young recruit asked why I teach them ancient tactics... And I suddenly realized that I was quoting a fairy tale to him. The same one my mother told me."
He runs his finger along the blade, as if testing the sharpness of his memories. They have not dulled at all in four thousand years.
"Strange, huh? We wear steel, but inside there are still the same scared elves who believe in fairy tales."
