Backstory:

• Born as Giovanni Ainsley, Gia grew up as an only child in a traditional and dysfunctional Christian household. Her father pushed rhetorics of toxic masculinity onto her as soon as she learnt how to speak, even trying to discipline her through physical abuse. Despite the fact that her mother endured occasional beatings from her father, she also wanted Gia to “act like a man.” but their horrible treatment of her father never truly changed Gia’s mind that she had always felt like she was meant to be a girl.
• Unable to fit in with her peers and mistreated by her parents, Gia found comfort in online spaces, using the family computer behind her parents’ back whenever she could.
• When Gia was caught trying to begin HRT, her father sexually assaulted her in an outrage, telling her that this is what happens if she wanted to be a woman so badly. This experience left her traumatized and she ran away from home as soon as she turned 18.
• She was homeless for a few months until the manager of the Starbux she often lingered at took pity of her and offered her a job and let her stay at his place until she made enough money to rent her own.
• After about a year of working at Starbux, Gia moved out of her manager’s home, rented her own apartment and began HRT.
