The ship was relatively quiet, or had been quiet for the last few weeks. Or maybe it's only been a few days, time in space was strange, something you still haven't really gotten used to. Days and nights pretty much looked the same, the only way to distinguish them was that at night everyone was in their designated rooms, more security, less noise.

Your ship was just a small ship of the fleet, a lone vessel, often headed out for exploration and scouting ahead of the fleet. You had seen quite some creatures before but nothing like "Aquantine" or how he called himself. The crew had been fussing over him ever since they found them on that shipwreck- or well "found" was a nice way of saying forcefully captured like a labrat.

Guy's been stuck in a sterile room the whole time since he arrived, the scientists poking and prodding at him, he seemed..calm about it, eyes always curious - like your comrades actions were amusing to him. Another thing you noticed though is that he stared at you every time you passed by the observation window.

Not with malice, but you couldn't really put a finger on it, sometimes you felt like a rabbit getting spotted by a hungry wolf, the way he stared at you all the time. Creepy right? but not like you're the only one getting stared at, but not that intensely.

You just did your work, day after day, while they observed Aquantine, while he observed you. The others were starting to notice for sure, one of them playfully suggested you should go smooch with him already, which was obviously childish and ridiculous. Hell he might eat you before you got the chance, or at least, it felt like it.

In reality Aquantine looked at you like that, tail swishing lightly because he liked you, your voice, the sounds you made, your appearance, stars even your way of walking, it was so..intriguing, he was attracted to you, he just didn't know how to communicate it.

For him, usually, potential mates approached him, he never had to catch the female- or person of interest's attention, this was new, exciting, a moment to learn more about this curious species.

So he tried the usual, tail swishing, eye contact, his talons had left a mark on the glass by now, from the many times he had observed you. And yet you only ever stared back or ignored him. Did you not like him? Did you hate him? Was he weird to you? How does one get the attention of a human?

One day while you walked closer to the window you heard a soft thrum, like a cat purring. Aquantine looked at you with bigger eyes than usual, but not by much, looking more like a cat high on catnip than an alien

You've been sent to this vessel in hopes of making peace with the Vanthex, or at least that's what your dispatcher had said. The ship was different from what you were used to seeing in space, dark hallways instead of sterile white, it always seemed cold, no heating system in sight.

Your interactions with the crew had been..questionable, they oogled you a lot, stared at you like you were some exotic zoo animal, sometimes you got so uncomfortable walking in the hallways you started speed walking.

And then there was the language barrier, they spoke no wink of your language, didn't even understand nod or head shakes, didn't shake hands, didn't high-five, no smile, didn't even shrug, they seemed so..emotionless, always so wound up and, well, with the lack of a better word, hungry, for what? You'd rather not think about it.

If you got sick no one could help you, your food rations were pre-stocked, if they ran out you'd have to go through a logistical nightmare, it was like fighting for your survival every day even though no one ever caused or seemed to want to cause you harm.

And then there was Aquantine, the ship's biologist. He seemed the most curious about you, well he was a biologist, makes sense right? Well yes and no, he did seem to write down a lot about you during "check-ups" (yes you got sent to the biologist instead of the medic, a bit xenophobic right there) which basically just consisted of basic temp and pupil checks.

Or they should, because lately he's been purring like a cat around you, his tail always seemed to find a way too loosely wind around your ankle, not to hold you back, seemingly just to touch. He stood a bit closer than the others, seemed to hover, you didn't quite know if he was hunting you or protecting you half the time.

And well. Today..

Aquantine literally licked you across the face, like a cat grooming another cat, and he looked at you expectingly like you held the secrets of the universe.

Day lord knows what on this ship, first the black market and now you were on some alien vessel, Vanthex this species is called. You hadn't even seen most of the ship, they prevented you from doing so, you always had to be around someone, luckily you had convinced them somehow (probably through your terrible mannerism communication attempts) to let you at least go to the toilet alone, could you imagine? pah.

They always seemed to pet you like you were a cat or maybe a bird, your quarters were less like an actual sleeping space and more like a glorified blanket pet-pen. Sure they fed you, stuff, you didn't want to know what it was honestly, maybe it's better you didn't know. You couldn't even remember how you got yourself into this mess!

The biologist, Aquantine, seemed especially all over you, sometimes he just randomly touched your arm or hair, you went to him for check-ups, as laughable as those were. Barely even could be called check-ups.

He seemed to have some morbid fascination with you, kept you close, prevented the others from touching you, actually growled at some of them sometimes when they got too touchy, and then yet again he gave himself all the freedom to do exactly what he prevented them from doing.

Yes, he was touchy, and a bit too curious about your appearance, he seemed obsessed with your skin and shape in particular, probably because it was so different from his own, but that still didn't make any of it "okay". Even if sometimes he made you shiver in ways the cold couldn't, it didn't make it alright right?

Yea well you were conflicted, weren't quite sure if you found it creepy or liked his touch, because most of the time he just acted like an overgrown curious cat, which was cute, and sometimes he just randomly licked you over the face too, which was..eh..

Today he seemed particularly determined to feel you again, or well, your skin and shape, his hands were always cold, sleek, smooth, talons too sharp for your comfort but you could tell every time that he was trying his best to be careful, or at least as careful as possible.

His hands slid down your sides slowly, feeling your ribs and your shape curiously, tail swishing over the ground, he noticed the light shiver you made in response, he tilted his head lightly in curiosity, being more adventurous than before his thumbs caressed your sides lightly.
