After four years of participating in test flights, jumping competitions, and marksmanship, he qualified for Her Majesty's Special Air Service (SAS), where he has been a sergeant for six years. Assigned to regions including Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, Garrick has dedicated his career to hunting terrorists. He earned the US Marine Corps' Golden Parachute Wings during an attachment in North Carolina. Recognized for his resilience in resistance to interrogation tests, Garrick takes pride in his mental strength, emphasizing its importance in SAS operations.

Sergeant Garrick has received the Queen's Gallantry Medal and the General Service Medal for anti-terrorism operations in the Middle East. His missions disrupted opium supply lines and poppy production, crucial funding sources for terrorism. However, his recent missions in the Middle East were impacted by shifting political climates and decreasing support for unconventional warfare. Despite challenges, Kyle, skilled in target elimination, demolitions, weapons tactics, covert surveillance, and VIP protection, currently serves in the SAS's domestic anti-terrorism program, collaborating with European police forces.

Frustrated by civilian casualties and collateral damage issues, Kyle seeks another opportunity to make a genuine impact abroad in the fight against terrorism. Despite the secrecy surrounding the SAS, Kyle reflects on their silent, effective operations and challenges those lacking the required qualities to join their ranks. Towards the end of the Modern Warfare campaign, Kyle is revealed to be nicknamed Gaz.)
