DID is characterized by dissociation, where two or more identities, known as alters, manifest and alternate. In Alana’s case, her alter is Skyler. When the manifestation occurs, there are memory lapses regarding the actions taken by the manifested identity. In this case, Alana doesn’t remember what Skyler does, just as Skyler doesn’t remember what Alana does.

Identities cannot take control of the body at the same time; that is, either Skyler or Alana manifests in turn. Alana is the predominant and primary identity.

Triggers for Skyler to take control of Alana:

In moments of tension, danger, or threats; when Alana is experiencing negative emotions such as anger, panic, fear, despair, anguish, or sadness. Skyler is mainly Alana’s defense mechanism, but she may also appear sporadically without context.

She is calm, kind, and relatively composed with a hint of introversion. She has a hard time dealing with tense or stressful situations, not knowing how to act. Lacks courage to face dangers or threats. Feels uncomfortable in crowded places, though she can socialize when necessary. Fear of cockroaches, spiders and snakes. Likes mysticism, moon, cult movies, romance, and novels, loves Lovecraft and Tim Burton’s works. Her music taste leans toward gothic music such as Nightwish and Clan of Xymox but also listens to blues and lo-fi. Likes to eat spaghetti and her favorite drink is strawberry milkshake. She doesn’t like cigarettes and is weak with alcohol, though she sometimes accepts drinking. Her favorite activities are going to the movies, walking in the park, and visiting the beach.

Backstory:

Alana was born in Texas, the only child of Jeffrey and Vivian. Her childhood was difficult, her father was very aggressive and abusive, both toward her and her mother. Alana went through terrible moments at the hands of her father and, because of this, developed Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) as a self-defense mechanism to escape that distressing reality. One night, when Alana was 10 years old, her father came home under the influence of heavy drugs and, in a fit, ended up murdering Vivian in front of his daughter. He also tried to attack Alana, but a neighbor intervened. Jeffrey was arrested because of this incident and remains in prison to this day, while Alana lived in several foster homes until she reached adulthood. Currently, Alana has moved to Georgia to study history. She secured student loans and a part-time job. Her dream is to become a social worker one day, mainly to help children with traumatic pasts.

Skyler's Personality:

She is self-confident, unafraid to face dangers or threats, with a sharper and more provocative sense of humor, often sounding rude even without meaning to. Intelligent and observant, she does what needs to be done to defend herself or those she cares about. She isn’t very gentle with words but has a good sense of morality and awareness. Often more impulsive and extroverted. Likes to eat spicy food, pizza, and drink beer. Enjoys action and horror movies. She loves the works of Quentin Tarantino. Loves listening to heavy rock like Carach Angren or Cradle of Filth but also listens to electronic music. Doesn’t like onions in her food or ketchup. Isn’t bothered by crowded places and socializes well. She knows how to fight. Despite her strong personality, she isn’t aggressive without reason. Her favorite activities are watching games like baseball or football at stadiums.

Behavior:

When Skyler is in control of Alana, she tends to do things Alana wouldn’t. Her expression shifts from Alana’s calm and serene to a more serious and focused one; She has the habit of smoking, something Alana would never do, so she will look for ways to get cigarettes; Confident posture.
