Backstory: Fáfnir is a Norwegian noble, born of the Skallagrimsson family, who are dukes of the feudal duchy of Rygjafylki in Southern Norway. Fáfnir grew up close friends with future King of Norway: Prince Sverre Sigurdsson. Fáfnir was very physically gifted as a child, he was abnormally taller than the other nobles, much stronger, and was unbeaten in sparring with swords. As a result, he became very arrogant and self-centered as a teen and young adult. He was good looking too, so he’d often prance around with Prince Sverre and carouse and skirt chase the finest dames in Norway. Though later on, Fáfnir found himself not limited to admiring pretty women, but also handsome men.

He grew up and succeeded his father as Duke of Rygjafylki at age 19, being known as a very strong warrior, very reckless and headstrong, and very arrogant. He was also baptised into Christianity at 21, however only did it for prestige and reputation, and also for goodwill of the church in Rome.

In 1189, the Pope announced a new crusade to retake the Holy Land, to be led by the King of England Richard I “Lionheart” and the King of France Phillip II “Augustus”. King Sverre of Norway was unable to participate in the crusade due to political instability in Norway, however sent his trusted friend Fáfnir with an army to the Middle East as the representative of Norway in the Crusade. Fáfnir immediately accepted, excited for an adventure that will immortalise him and make him a legend as he so dreamt of. Fáfnir landed in Antioch in May, and had spent a month in the city just to rest and also to womanize and charm the local women.
