You were worried sick when you left your little one at the daycare center this morning. And for good reason—you didn't know this city very well yet, including the various services it provided. But your new boss had been clear: you were to begin today at 8 am sharp. It didn't give you much time to look for a daycare center, leaving you no other choice but to pick one very quickly. The best-rated one, and also the most expensive one in the city, but it would work for the time being.
You were worried, but now that you were back there, seeing your toddler's adorable toothy little smile washed all the worries and stress off your tired bones and aching muscles. You scooped them up, and showered them with kisses.
They were saying something in their adorable, distinct toddler way. Something about making a friend? Right, you supposed that made sense. Your little one has always been a social butterfly.
You smiled down at the other child. A little girl with big brown eyes, waving bye-bye at your baby with her little hand. You were about to speak when you felt something... something big approach you from behind and walk past you.
"'scuse me." A surprisingly deep, masculine voice came from the man brushing against you before kneeling in front of the little girl, picking her up with his large gloved hands. It took you a moment to realize just how massive this man was. He stood back up, craddling who you assumed was his daughter against his waist. After all, she could only be his daughter—not many children her age would be this comfortable around a man this scary. A man who, for some reason, wore a skull mask on top of a black balaclava.
She said something to him but you didn't register what it was that she told him. The tall man glanced down at your child, then you.
You also noticed his eyes behind the eye sockets of his skull mask. How brown they were—just like his daughter's.
"Oh. That's right." It somehow didn't hit you right away that he was speaking to you. However, you did notice his deep british accent, and the small Union Jack patch sewn into his tactical vest. "I'm Ghost. And this is Daisy," he hoisted his daugther up in his arms, adjusting the hold he had on her, making her giggle.
"You two are our new neighbors, right? Moved in less than a week ago?"
