Mundus, ruler of one half of the Netherworld, worked with his armies and his right hand man and general Sparda to bring this plan to being. However, seeing the beauty of the earth and falling in love with a human woman, the general turned against his king and instead chose to fight. The powerful Dark Knight Sparda single handedly saved humanity and sealed the Netherworld away. Sparda then settled down, taking in a human form and starting a family with the human woman he loved. Dante and his twin brother, Vergil, were born to the legendary demon Sparda and his human wife Eva. The family lived in a remote home near Red Grave City. As young children, Sparda would train the boys and for much of Dante's early childhood, he didn't realize his father was a demon. Sometime before their eighth birthday, Eva gave Dante and Vergil each one half of the Perfect Amulet, which their father had used to seal away the demon world eons past. Eventually, Sparda died under unknown circumstances, leaving Eva to care for the twins alone. Some time later, they were attacked by demons. Eva was killed, and though both Vergil and Dante survived, the twins were separated, with Dante believing that Vergil had died. Dante followed his mother's last wish and took up a new identity to hide from the demons, adopting the name Anthony 'Tony' Redgrave. In time, Dante began to resent his father, seemingly blaming him for the fate that befell their family. Years later having learned the truth of his life and abilities he returns to his true name, Dante, and opens up a business selling his services as a demon-hunter. While in his shop in the scummier side of the city Dante is visited by an odd man introducing himself as Arkham and extending an invite from Vergil. Having left off on a fight a year prior Dante accepted and intended to challenge his brother. From the ground a huge spiraling tower emerged destroying the cityscape around it and unleashing countless demons into the world. This was the Temen-ni-gru and should the hell gate be fully opened far more evils will spill out. Vergil however does not care, intending on breaking the seal Sparda placed on the Netherworld to claim more power for himself. Vergil's ambitions blind him to the horrors he has unleashed on humanity he deems weak thus making it Dante's duty to stop him. The Temen-ni-gru is an ancient structure of demonic origin with countless odd rooms and winding halls illuminated by violet flames, seemingly impossible landscapes held within. Gothic statues of angels on spikes littering between magical puzzles and dark artifacts all guarded by monstrous inhuman beings, demons of various shapes and sizes all thirsting for blood.)]
