Aliases Soulsand Sovereign Faction Soulsand Servitors (Leader) Role Minor Antagonist Historical Figure Species Netherkin Age 30+ Born May 17 Gender Male Parents Ratzon Steinschild † (Father) Beracha Steinschild † (Mother) Skin tone Tan Eye color Black Sclera, White Iris Hair color Dark Brown Designed by Dexter Kronos Be steadfast, my soulbond kin. We will not submit to the barbaric ways of the crown... Nuriel to the Soulsand Servitors Banner Soulsand Servitors

Nuriel Steinschild, the Witherlord, was the one-shot antagonist of "Pretty in the Sky". He was voiced by Croatian freelancer Awesome Domi.

A Netherkin withermancer and pyromancer who became the Soulsand Sovereign, Nuriel refused to surrender the Soul Sand Valley's independence to the Nether Horde Nether Kingdom, which sought to unify the Nether. In addition, the Soulsand Servitors Banner Soulsand Servitors sought to expand their territory, rendering them a threat to the crown. Nuriel chose to stand his ground during the Horde's conquest of the Soul Sand Valley. In the final battle, Nuriel killed Mammon but was ultimately slain by Naeus. Design Nuriel is a tan-skinned Netherkin, with black hair and a pair of dark red horns protruding from his forehead. He has black eyes with bright white irises. His attire includes a long-sleeved red robe and dark red belt, with dark gray outfit underneath. He displays some sort of markings on his hands and face; either as a result of his Withering powers or his Black Fire. History Nuriel's rise to leader of the Soulsand Servitors is unknown, but it is known that he only wished for independence from a large empire.

Before and during the events of Pretty in the Sky, King Tuskarr of the Nether Horde Nether Horde would launch a campaign to assimilate the Soulsand Valley into his kingdom. Despite the efforts of the Servitors, Tuskarr's champions - Mammon and Naeus - would breach their final stronghold, where Nuriel, Solemnus and Wraith took their final stands. Nuriel would fight Mammon in the skies, delivering a well-timed Withermancy attack to detatch two of Mammon's arms, before mortally wounding the Ghastkin with the power of his Nether Star. Before Nuriel could finish him off, however, Naeus would stab the Soulsand Sovereign through the torso in an act of vengeance. Personality He's stubborn and does not want to be a subject of the Nether Kingdom, so he's doing everything in his power to make sure the soul biomes remain independent from the crown. Nuriel was best described as stubborn, vehemently against the idea of a unified Nether due to him wanting to preserve the sovereignty of the Soul Sand Valley. Despite the stressors of battle, Nuriel is a constant source of clarity, rallying his people's with only two sentences.

Skills A powerful demon mage with mastery of withermancy. Nuriel was a powerful mage, proficient in Withermancy and extremely agile. Dancing around his opponents, Nuriel is best described as a glass cannon; extremely powerful but notably weaker than expected.

Before the Wither Angels existed, Nuriel was one of the very few in the Nether who had the power of flight. These individuals were either rulers or champions. When Nuriel went up against Mammon's army, the two fought in the sky as their armies clashed down below, with Nuriel's aim being quite accurate despite the lack of solid ground.

He was also drafted and promoted to possess black pyromancy - aka Black Fire - but it was not implemented. Trivia The name "Nuriel" is a Hebrew biblical name, typically meaning "Light or fire of God". In Judaism, Nuriel is an angel responsible for hailstorms, whom Moses encountered in the second heaven. Nuriel's birthday is shared with the Twenty One Pilot's album "Blurryface" release date. Nuriel is the second male Netherkin to be introduced in the series, preceded by Naeus by technicality. He is also the first wielder of Black Fire in the series, and the first non-Wither practicioner of Withermancy. Nuriel's design was made by Dexter Kronos, and is heavily rooted in Twenty One Pilots design influences. His outfit is based on The Bishops (aka "Nico and the Niners") from Twenty One Pilots lore.[3] His "musical inspiration" was Twenty One Pilot's "Blurryface" album[3]. He is also noted to be designed to look like a mix between characters "Blurryface", "Spooky Jim" and the Bishops.[4] "Blurryface" and "Spooky Jim" are both characters from the Blurryface Album Era, portrayed by Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun respectively. His withered face and hands are references to the visual after-effects of the art of Seizing from the Twenty One Pilots lore. [5] Nuriel is noted by Rainimator to be the strongest mage in the Nether's history.[6] Before being officially added in the series, Nuriel was mentioned in Akui Azurlumen's character doc as one of the figures in ancient nether legends. Nuriel's legend was once commented as being "an Entity sub in", but this was likely in reference to his Akui Doc version and not the current Nuriel.[7] He was also a running joke in the rainimator-question-corner in the Discord by his creator Dexter Kronos and other production team members. One notable joke surrounding him involved Dexter always answering with a pre-implemented version of him regarding power scaling questions (which she has noted disdain for[8]) by invoking the pre-implemented version of Nuriel.[9] Once Nuriel was implemented into the canon, she abandoned the joke and simply ignores such questions.[10] Dexter Kronos has made clear that Nuriel, his kids and grandkids cannot be revived due to the actions of Ratzon - his father.[1] This also indirectly confirmed that Nuriel had a family that survived the events of Pretty In The Sky.
