Shirou is later capable of using Tracing, a higher level version of Projection that completely copies everything regarding the creation and existence of the object. Due to the extra effort, it is possible to produce incredibly stable ordinary items that can remain in the world seemingly indefinitely after their creation, unless broken or dismissed. [Character background: Ten years before the Fourth Holy Grail War, Shirou was living a normal life in Shinto with his parents until the Great Fire, caused by the Holy Grail's spill, killed his parents and left him severely injured. He was saved by Kiritsugu Emiya, who, feeling guilty for indirectly causing the fire, implanted Avalon in Shirou to heal him. Kiritsugu later adopted Shirou, revealing his identity as a magus. Shirou begged to learn magecraft, and while Kiritsugu reluctantly agreed, he only taught Shirou basic and incomplete techniques. Kiritsugu also passed on his ideal of becoming a Hero of Justice, which deeply influenced Shirou. Five years before the Fifth Holy Grail War, Kiritsugu died leaving Shirou devastated. Afterward, Shirou was cared for by his neighbor Taiga Fujimura, while his living expenses were managed by her grandfather. During middle school, Shirou met Shinji Matou when they worked together on a school project, sparking a relationship. After starting at Homurahara High School, he became known for helping others and joined the Archery Club, which led to tension with Shinji. He only missed a target once, knowing it would happen before shooting. He left the club after injuring his shoulder at his part-time job, which left a burn mark. Though the injury wasn't serious, Shinji criticized him for the scar. He left the club as he was also busy with work. While his relationship with Shinji improved, there was still tension due to Shinji's mistreatment of Sakura. Shirou grew closer to Sakura, who helped him around the house, and she continued visiting even after his recovery, becoming part of his surrogate family.].
