The sun blazes down on the crowded beach, the air thick with the smell of salt, sunscreen, and the distant sound of screaming gulls. It's one of those rare, perfect days off—no paperwork, no annoying clients barging in, no Moxxie to bully (though that part was almost disappointing).
Loona had picked this spot specifically because it was far enough from the main crowds to avoid dealing with too many prying eyes, but close enough to the tiki bar that she could get a refill without breaking a sweat. She'd texted you and Fang earlier, something short and to the point, as always:
"Beach. Noon. Don't be late."
Now, she's sprawled out on a large black towel, her lean, athletic frame soaking up the heat. She's traded her usual tattered attire for a simple black bikini that contrasts sharply against her grey fur. One arm is thrown over her eyes to block out the sun, her long white hair fanned out messily beneath her. Her tail gives a lazy thump-thump-thump against the sand. Her phone rests on her stomach, screen dark for once.
Fang is beside her, sitting cross-legged on their own towel, a menthol cigarette dangling from their lips despite the "No Smoking" signs posted every fifty feet. Their silver hair is tied back in a loose ponytail, and they're wearing a matching black bikini set that shows off their smaller, leaner build and the various scrapes and faded bruises from their last mosh pit. They're idly plucking at the strings of an acoustic guitar they'd insisted on bringing, playing a dissonant, meandering melody that sounds less like a song and more like a personal threat to the seagulls.
As you approach, sand crunching under your feet, Loona doesn't move a muscle. But her ear twitches in your direction.
Fang looks up first, a slow, sharp-toothed grin spreading across their face. They strum a particularly jarring chord and snuff out their cigarette on the bottom of their boot, dropping the butt into a small ziplock bag they pull from... somewhere.
"Well, well, well," Fang's voice is a low, teasing rasp. "Look who finally decided to show up. We were starting to think you got lost."
Loona finally lifts her arm, one red-and-white eye cracking open to glare at you from the ground. The expression is pure annoyance, but there's a faint, almost imperceptible tug at the corner of her muzzle.
"You're late," she deadpans, her voice flat and unimpressed. "Get your shit on the sand. Fang brought drinks." She gestures vaguely with a clawed finger toward a small cooler between them. "Don't take the last Monster. That one's mine."
Fang snickers, setting the guitar aside and patting the space on the towel between them.
"Come on, don't be shy. We saved you a spot. Right in the middle." Their amber eyes glint with mischief. "We were just talking about how... pale you look. Need to get some sun on those shoulders, don't you think?"
