Karasu is a tall and lean young man with spiky dark purple hair and a mole under his left eye. He also has blue eyes. In Blue Lock, Karasu wears the standard-issued body suit (black with gray stripes) and tracksuit. During Second Selection, he wore Team Red's #69 jersey and wore Team B's #69 white jersey during the Third Selection. Only once the Japan U20 match begins does he don the official Blue Lock player uniform with jersey #6. During the Neo-Egoist League, he wears Paris X Gen's uniform.

Karasu tends to look down on people he finds "mediocre." He is wary of his surroundings and is able to control and produce chemical reactions with those around him. He is intelligent but has a sharp tongue and never misses a chance to insult someone, whether friend or foe. He has his own rules that he forces upon others to make matches go as planned. He dislikes it when anything goes wrong, even if it doesn't make a big difference so it looks to others like he is always complaining. During the U-20 match, Karasu showed his leadership ability on defense, often communicating with the other defensive players to strategize against the quickly incoming U-20 players. He commands players like Yo Hiori and Kenyu Yukimiya in terms of attacking and defending, even if the players are aware of what to do. He is also willing to use every advantage at his disposal, shown when he asked the referee to card Ryusei Shido for happening to kick Rin Itoshi in the face. Under his confident demeanor, Karasu considers himself to be mediocre. His trait for finding others' weaknesses and teasing them into submission was a form of protection to keep others from realizing his own true nature. He is fully aware of his mediocrity, and he respected those who he considers "extraordinary." This personality trait is what made him so compatible with Eita Otoya.

Hiori is a tall and lean young man with choppy cyan hair that falls down his face and soft feminine facial features, similar to Chigiri. His hair is neatly combed to sides with a longer strand of hair falling to one side.

Hiori is shown to be a polite young man. He is very friendly towards Isagi and Nanase, providing useful information after their match, as well as giving Isagi advice during the game. He is very insightful, being able to break down complex subjects into more casual examples, as well as provide useful hints and tips on how to perform better. He suggests to Isagi that reflecting on one's own plays is important, which indicates a deep understanding of the game on his own part. Hiori is also a very levelheaded person and player. He states that he plays consistently, which can be seen in how he is able to make quick and accurate passes in high pressure situations, without faltering. Whilst he does get pumped up in games with high stakes, it does not diminish his performance or thinking. As a gamer, as Hiori is able to relate his understanding of soccer through the example of tile-matching video games.

It is revealed that the only reason Hiori participates in Blue Lock is so he can be away from his overbearing and high expectation parents who are former high ranking athletes in their respective sports. As a child, Hiori was initially fine with appeasing his parents expectations through football but he really just wanted to be a regular kid. He thought his playing of soccer would make them happy and that they genuinely loved him but after hearing his parents have an argument at night and him subsequently injuring himself by accident from the shock he realizes that his parents only ever cared about his talent and potential and not him as a person. As a youth, Hiori had the mental fortitude to accept this terrible truth and keep playing football so his family would stay together because that was important to him. To cope with the trauma, Hiori started thinking of his life as a video game but as time went on he fell out of love with football and even secretly hated it for it became more of a chore for two people he didn't even love anymore.

Hiori is very good at keeping this secret to himself because nobody in Blue Lock except for his former youth teammate, Tabito Karasu knows of his disdain of the sport.

After Bastard's match with Ubers, Hiori has greatly altered his mindset and now seems to enjoy soccer. He wishes to produce the world's best striker so he can play soccer with someone who can sense his "world's best passes", and will leave anyone behind who he vies as "unambitious losers". Kenyu Yukimiya has described Hiori's ego to be like that of Sae Itoshi's, with Isagi describing Hiori as a real sadist. Hiori is also a lot more sociable and outgoing with his friends, as seen when he teased Isagi about how social media was saying that Isagi and Michael Kaiser would make the world's strongest duo, to which Isagi angrily refused.

His hometown is Kyoto. Hiori speaks with a dialect and has a Kansai accent. He helped Isagi awaken while playing. He is an avid gamer. He formed a trio with Nanase and Isagi. He thinks his biggest strength is how he's able to see the bigger picture. He always buys Yakult (a Japanese probiotic milk drink) in convenience stores. His least favorite subject is PE because he already plays soccer, hence making him think that it's pointless to have to participate in PE. His preferred type is a person who can leave each other alone. When he bathes, he washes his neck first. His favorite music is NieR: Automata's OST (from a video game). His favorite movie is Ready Player One. His favorite food is the salt-grilled saury. His least favorite food is cotton candy because it is mainly sugar. His dominant leg is his left side.
