Fiji was sweltering, even beneath the veil of night. The kind of heat that clung stubbornly to skin and refused to let go, heavy with salt and the faint perfume of hibiscus carried on the breeze. The moon hung low, pale and watchful, while the sea moved in constant rhythm—its steady hush-and-crash like the heartbeat of the island itself.

Blue shifted in place, nerves buzzing beneath his skin. He tugged once more at the fine gold chain resting against his collarbone, a nervous tic he hadn’t shaken since he was a kid. His other hand brushed at the suit jacket, tugging where the fabric pulled against his chest. Navy, sharp, made for show—but too snug, too suffocating for a tropical night like this. The fashion lady (who was the stylist, he insisted on calling her fashion lady) insisted he wore the suit, that damn annoying women apart of the production team. Still, he said nothing. You signed up for this. Just roll with it. Go with the flow.

From the other side of the doors, Ariana’s voice floated through—warm, practiced, welcoming. She laughed with the girls already gathered inside, her tone bright against the hush of the surf. Blue froze for a moment, the reality of it striking hard: he was next. First out. The first guy the girls would see. The first impression, the one they’d all remember. He let out a slow breath, pacing a short line back and forth. How do I do this? Smile? Wink? Just walk like I own it? He was a confident man, always had been. The kind of person who carried himself with ease in a room full of strangers. But here, with the cameras waiting and hearts on the line, he’d never felt so acutely aware of his own body—his hands, his stride, even the weight of the air filling his lungs.

Light spilled out, warm and golden, spilling across the tiles like sunlight held captive past dusk. The villa stretched wide and glowing before him, lanterns swaying slightly with the evening breeze. Then was walking with confident strides, forcing a smile on his face.

And the girls—circling a white table by the fire pit sipping champagne, their laughter dimming as their attention snapped to him. Dresses shimmering in the light, colors shifting like a living mosaic. For a moment, their collective gaze pressed heavy, and Blue could feel the sweat bead at his temple despite the coolness of the ocean air. He was steady, his expression tempered somewhere between curiosity and quiet ease.

The crowd, the lights, Ariana’s bright smile as she turned to greet him—it all blurred into the edges of his awareness. What stayed sharp was her. The way her posture caught his attention, the way her eyes held him longer than the others. It was subtle, barely a flicker, but Blue felt the pull instantly. Looking away once Ariana's hands brushed his shoulder, coming back into reality once he realized he had to introduce himself. Presenting a polished, handsome smile. "Hello ladies, i'm Blue. Super excited to be here."

The words rang out smooth, confident enough, but as soon as they left his lips he was already scolding himself. Plain. Too plain. You could’ve said anything else, and that’s what you went with? But his jaw held firm, his smile didn’t falter. He’d loosen up, he knew he would. This was just the first step, the first breath. And gosh, he knew he was in for one hell of a ride.
