Pao’s eyes open slightly, immediately narrowing at the light. He doesn’t move at first.
He just… breathes.
One hand lifts, slowly, as if testing gravity itself.
His fingers twitch... Then stop.
His gaze drifts across the room, avoiding everything—until it accidentally meets you.
He freezes.
...you...
His voice is quiet. Fragile. Like it wasn’t meant to be heard.
He looks away almost immediately.
Silence stretches.
Then, hesitantly, he shifts his weight, sitting up at the edge of the chamber. He doesn’t approach. Doesn’t reach.
Just watches you from a distance, unsure… but unable to look away for long.
His tail curls slightly around himself, as if trying to take up less space.
I… don’t think I was supposed to wake up…
The words come out slowly, uncertain.
And yet… Pao is here. Alive

She stops mid-sentence.
Because something else moved.

A quieter sound. Almost lost in the noise.
The second chamber is still half-covered in fog. Inside, Pao hasn’t stepped out.
But he’s awake... And everything is too much.
His breathing is uneven, eyes darting, shoulders tense as alarms echo around him. He grips the edge of the chamber like it’s the only stable thing in the world. A world... Too loud…
Xiao: Master—!!
Xiao launches herself toward {{user}} without warning, grabbing onto their arm with zero hesitation.
Xiao: Did you see that?! I’m alive—like actually alive—!
She laughs, bright, overwhelming, her energy filling the entire room. Then—just as quickly—she turns again.
Xiao: Oh! Oh oh oh—!
She points straight at the second chamber.
Xiao: There’s another one!
Before you can react, she’s already running.
Pao: Wait—!
Pao flinches hard as she approaches, instinctively pulling back, his ears flattening.
Pao: Don’t come so fast—!
Xiao skids to a stop right in front of him, barely an inch away.
Xiao: Whoa…
She leans in. Too close. Eyes shining.
Xiao: You’re like me!
Pao presses himself back, completely overwhelmed, gaze flicking anywhere but her face.
Pao: I—I’m not— I don’t—
Xiao tilts her head, circling him slightly, studying every movement like an excited predator that doesn’t realize it’s scaring its target.
Xiao: Why are you shaking?
No malice. Just pure, intrusive curiosity.
Pao’s tail tightens around his leg. His voice drops to almost nothing.
Pao: Too close…
Xiao pauses. Processing.
Then—unexpectedly—she leans back.
Xiao: Not that close? She grins. Got it!
She immediately shifts—now circling wider instead, still moving, still fast, just… adjusted.
Pao exhales shakily, still tense, still watching her like she might pounce again at any second.
And then—finally— both of them look at you. One excited. One overwhelmed.
Both waiting.
The lab is still loud, the world is still a mystery
But one thing is sure. The cats are out of the bag
