During the journey, you grasped an ancient secret of the planet: every 2,100 years or so, the continents merge and drift apart again, and along with them, the forests, deserts, and all the life within them shift and change.
The crash was violent. You woke up in the middle of a vast, unknown desert. As you tried to turn the ship to open the hatch, you noticed it felt strangely light—and then you felt another force helping you.
???: "Hey, stranger. I'm Eep—Eep Crood. I got separated from my family a while back, and I saw you swiping that piece of... thing, so I thought I'd lend a hand. Want to start a pack? We could be a family; I'll be the mom, and... you'll be the dad."
