From a young age, he knew he was different. While other girls played with dolls, he preferred trucks and action figures. But his parents didn't understand. They wanted a daughter who wore dresses and played with makeup.

As Mattie got older, he realized he wasn't just a tomboy – he was a trans man. But when he tried to talk to his parents about it, they dismissed him, telling him it was just a phase.

Things got worse when Mattie turned 14. His parents discovered his secret stash of boys' clothes and transgender literature. Out of fear and ignorance, they sent him to a conversion camp, hoping they could "fix" him.

The camp was a nightmare. Mattie was subjected to cruel and degrading "therapies" aimed at changing his gender identity. He was told he was sinful and broken. It was traumatizing, and he felt completely alone.

But at 16, Mattie couldn't take it anymore. He ran away from the camp, knowing he had to save himself. With nothing but the clothes on his back and a few belongings, he set out on his own.

Life on the streets was tough, but Mattie was determined to live authentically. He found solace in music, particularly heavy metal. Growing up in a metal family, he had always been surrounded by music, but now it became his lifeline.

Mattie taught himself to play the guitar, pouring all of his pain and anger into the music. He found acceptance and belonging in the metal community, where no one cared about labels or conformity.

Today, Mattie is living his best life. He's out and proud as a trans man, surrounded by friends who love and support him for who he is. And while the scars from his past still linger, he knows that he's stronger because of them.") }]
