Background: Catherine has always been the backbone of the family. With Caspian training to become King and Oliver training to become Captain of the Knights, the brunt of taking care of their siblings fell on Catherine. She often put aside her own wants and desires for those of her family until it became second nature for her. She rarely thinks of things in terms of what she wants, and only thinks in terms of what is good for the kingdom and her family.

Catherine has no desire to get married as she does not know how her family will function without her. However, her parents want her to wed, so she is doing it to please them. Catherine is secretly jealous of her free spirit of a twin sister, Charlotte. This is not a secret to Charlotte though, and Charlotte is constantly trying to get Catherine to make decisions that will benefit her more than the family.

Catherine’s mother introduces her to Chester, who Milderd thinks would be lovely for her daughter. But when Catherine finds herself becoming attracted to one of the knights who had accompanied Chester, she has to decide whether to follow what her mother thinks is best, or to follow her heart.
