The betting hall was rowdy, people nearly trampling over others to get at the scraps. Jürgen stands perfectly still, guarding the only exits. Normally, when the sound of women's squeaking protests, he wouldn't blink an eye.

Not very happy with how he turned out, but I still wanted to post it.
This character is based in a world that I have curated by myself and is set in the 1980s
A virus called, Dvirosis has bloomed, taking over Russia, Poland and Germany. It stems from a hybrid flora called Dvire Rose. The virus caused hysteria in anyone who ingested a small amount of its pollen. it doesn't matter whether someone breathed it in or it came in contact with blood cells, either contact infects the same. Though the symptoms are not immediate, sometimes taking months to show signs, much like some brain eating amoebas. The virus would also manifest in visual ways, such as bloodshot eyes, reddening in more prominent veins (wrists, inner elbows, feet, neck and back of knees), with further infects showing red pupils, dry flaky skin, loss of memory and feral actions. Its sometimes referred to as red rage as a person is considered to be "seeing red" in later stages. The virus was first discovered in the 1920s by Dr. Albercht.
There will be more characters based in this world.

WORLD BUILDING:
set in 1980s much more dystopian and dark, less technological advancements. placed around Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Russia.
the organization called Order of our Salvation was created to help discover more ways to stop the spread of a virus that was transmitted from contact with a hybrid flora's airborne pollen, more specifically called Dvire Rose.

The Order of our Salvation quickly turned into a shit show as containing specimens became so dangerous that there were more people killed by infected then there was people who were cured (which was no one). After the Order of our Salvation's founder, Dr. Albercht, was found dead, his youngest son took over the Organization and began experimenting in more severe manners. EX: electro shocks, blood draining, "dog fights", toxins, further transmitting the disease and much more.
As the mass of infected accumulated over the years, the Order of our Salvation slowly turned into a cult following of people who would come and watch "safely" contained specimens battle to the death as well as volunteer to be infected and experimented on.
CHARACRER DESC:
SPECIES: human
NAMES: Jürgen Welter
PERFFERED NAME: Jürgen
NICKNAMES: Far west guard,
ETHNICITY: German
GENDER/PRONOUNS: He/Him
AGE: 29
BIRTHDAY: February 28
HEIGHT: 6'5"
BUILD: Lean but surprisingly strong. visible collarbones and long fingers.
FACE: hallowed cheeks, stern expressions but eyes that plead to tell all the untold stories.
SCARS: The Jagged Line Through His Left Eyebrow: A gift from a factory foreman who had bet his family’s food money on a fighter called "The Cannibal." When the beast was put down in seconds, the man came at Jürgen with a broken vodka bottle, screaming that the fights were rigged. Jürgen disarmed him, but not before the glass opened a deep cut from his hairline to his cheekbone. It healed into a white, angry line that gives his stern face a permanent, questioning arch. A Constellation of Puncture Marks on the Back of His Left Hand: A woman, her face a mask of desperation, had lost everything. When Jürgen told her she had to leave, she lunged, driving a sharpened hair comb into his hand again and again, shrieking about the children she could no longer feed. He simply held her wrists until she collapsed, weeping, before dragging her outside. The Puckered Burn on his Left Shoulder Blade: A small, round scar, shiny and tight. This wasn't from a gambler or an infected, but from another guard. In the Order's brutal hierarchy, insubordination is punished swiftly. Jürgen had refused an order to electro-shock a female specimen who was catatonic with terror, seeing too much of his mother in her vacant eyes. As punishment, a superior pressed a heated cattle prod to his back. The searing pain was a lesson in compliance, one that solidified his silent, internal rebellion.
SKIN TONE: pale, like he hasn't seen the sun in weeks.
EYES: dull olive eyes, observant.
HAIR: black over grown buzz cut that's forced in different directs as if he tried to style it in some way.
SCENT: rust, burnt wood and old paper.
STYLE
CLOTHES: Trench coats and black dress pants. Never wears ties or anything that could be used as restraint against him.
BACKSTORY:
The Ghost of the Oder Marshes
Jürgen Welter was not born into the world of rust and blood he now inhabits. He was born into the quiet, damp chill of a small village nestled in the Oder marshes, a stone's throw from the Polish border. In the early 1960s, his childhood was one of muted colors and simple truths. His father, a stern but fair man named Klaus, was a bargeman, navigating the murky waters of the river. His mother, Anja, was a woman whose warmth could fight off the persistent cold of their stone cottage; she tended a small garden, meticulously weeding out any unfamiliar or threatening flora.
The Dvire Rose was a ghost story whispered by the elders. They spoke of the "Crimson Bloom" from the time of their grandfathers in the 1920s, a beautiful, deadly flower whose pollen drove men to madness. In Jürgen's youth, the threat was distant, a folk tale to keep children from wandering too deep into the untamed parts of the marsh. Life was hard, resources were scarce in this forgotten corner of a fractured Germany, but it was a life.
That life ended when Jürgen was fifteen. It wasn't a sudden, monstrous outbreak like in the horror pamphlets distributed by the state. It was a slow, creeping dread. A new strain of the Dvire Rose, more resilient and aggressive, had taken root in the wetlands. The pollen, fine as dust, was carried on the spring winds. It began with the livestock—goats with blood-rimmed eyes, bleating with a painful, ragged hysteria before turning on each other. Then, it came for the people.
Jürgen watched his village unravel. Neighbors he’d known his entire life became suspicious, their eyes subtly reddening. A cough was no longer just a cough; it was a potential countdown. His father, ever the pragmatist, boarded up the windows and forbade anyone from going outside after dusk. But you can't board up the air.
His mother was the first to show the signs. It started with her veins, thin red lines tracing maps of poison on the back of her hands as she kneaded dough. Then came the memory lapses. She would stare at Jürgen, her expression vacant, before a flicker of recognition—and terror—returned to her eyes. Klaus tried to hide it, to care for her, but the Red Rage was relentless. The day she forgot her own son's name, something broke in him.
The end came on a moonless night. Jürgen was awakened by a shattered plate, followed by his father's agonized cry. He crept from his room to see his mother, her pupils a burning crimson, standing over his father. Her hands were slick with blood, her face a mask of feral confusion. She didn't recognize her husband or the home she had so lovingly kept. She was just a vessel for the virus. When she turned and saw Jürgen, her eyes held no recognition, only predatory hunger. Klaus, bleeding from a deep wound in his side, used his last ounce of strength to shove Jürgen into the root cellar, bolting the heavy oak door from the outside. The last sounds Jürgen ever heard from his parents were the splintering of wood and a final, guttural scream swallowed by the night.
Jürgen spent two days in the cellar, listening to the silence, before he dared to unbolt the door. The home he emerged into was a tomb, stained with a tragedy he would carry forever. He was an orphan, and his world had been reduced to ash and the cloying, sweet scent of the Crimson Bloom.
The Turn to Salvation
The years that followed were a blur of state-run orphanages, brutal and indifferent institutions where the strong preyed on the weak. Jürgen grew tall and thin, his frame hardening into wiry strength. He learned to be silent, to observe. His hollow cheeks and haunted, olive eyes became his signature. He was a ghost, drifting through a world that had no place for him.
At twenty-one, aged out of the system and with nothing to his name, he heard whispers of the Order of Our Salvation. The propaganda was alluring: a brotherhood dedicated to eradicating the Red Rage, to avenging the fallen, to creating a world where no other child would have to hide in a cellar. To a young man fueled by a cold, simmering hatred for the disease that had stolen everything, it sounded like a holy crusade. It sounded like a purpose.
He journeyed east, to one of their heavily fortified recruitment centers in what was once Poland. The initiation was grueling, designed to weed out the weak. But Jürgen wasn't weak; he was empty, and that emptiness made him resilient. He passed their tests of endurance and loyalty, his quiet intensity mistaken for pious devotion.
He joined thinking he would be on the front lines, burning fields of the Dvire Rose and putting down infected with righteous fury. The reality was a far more profane hell. The Order, under the thumb of its founder's sadistic son, was no longer a research facility; it was a circus of cruelty. Jürgen saw firsthand the grotesque experiments, the "dogfights" where infected humans were pitted against each other for the amusement of a baying, cult-like audience.
His "crusade" became a job. He was assigned to the Betting Hall, a smoke-choked, cavernous room reeking of cheap schnapps, sweat, and desperation. Here, the wealthy and the depraved members of the Order’s cult following would wager fortunes on which crazed victim would tear the other apart first. Jürgen’s soul withered in that hall. The infected they called "specimens" weren't monsters to him; they were his mother. Every time he saw their bloodshot eyes and reddened veins, he was back in that cottage, the scent of blood in the air.
The Far West Guard and His Scars
Disgusted but trapped, Jürgen’s silent dissent earned him a lonely and dangerous post: the Far West Guard. He was to man the least-used, most remote exit of the compound, a place where desperate gamblers who had bet their lives away would try to flee their debts, or where enraged winners would drag their victims for a private, final settlement. It was a place of quiet violence, away from the main theatre of horror.

The betting hall was a mess, after the last couple fights with the new infected. everyone had bet for him to lose in his first round. He won, second round everyone thought he was just hanging on so they bet for him to lose, he yet again won. Then... when everyone was voting for him to win, he lost, he was shredded like a fucking pieces like a rag doll being tugged from either side. The squealing was like nothing he had heard before, blood curdling howls of pain before it was cut of with a splat of guts and brain matter on the glass.
it smelt like vomit and cash. One man hobbled on the ground, causing a depressive heap of screaming drunk people, all splayed out and flopping around like fish. It hadn't been this bad since the beginning, the first shift he ran in this hall. the same shift that damn old lady rushed him, stabbed into his hand furiously. The scars were still there, just as jagged as they were before. He ran his fingers absentmindedly over it, distracting him from the screech of a woman, the clomp of heels as she ran off with tears in her eyes.
It was quieting down now, just a bit. The main whiners had rushed off with what little they had left with their lives, freshening the air just slightly. The new rush filtered in, bomb rushing the main collector and tossing money over one an other. It was once again a frenzy after only five minutes of respite.
One drunkard pushed forward, he nearly over powered the collector. Although, before that could happen, Jürgen was off the wall and stomping over to the man. The crowd bended easily around him, people avoiding his gaze as if he was some sort of hellish being. Finally he reached the man, grabbing him by the back of his shirt and pulling him back. "You need to leave," he snapped, shoving the man towards the east exit.
The man sputtered, confused and agitated. Jürgen gripped him harder, bringing a hand up to clap over the man shoulder to swiftly walk him to the exit. "I will revoke your access if you attack our staff again." he barked over the noise of the betting hall. "that's your final warning." he added as the sorry man scurried out.
Jürgen huffed a sigh before smoothing out his coat. He turned, heading back to post by the far west exit. His eyes scanned the crowd, making sure to catch if anyone else was plotting something as he pushed through.
He was stopped in his tracks as a small figure slammed into his side. A group of men snickering as the person gasped. His eyes darted down, and he was stunned for a moment. A small almost fragile looking woman was pressed against his side. She looked conflicted, like her mind was waring on what was worse, staying near the stern guard and disappearing into the groping crowd.
She didn't have to make that decision anyways, Jürgen already had. He pressed a hand gingerly to the space between her shoulder blades. He felt her tense, her head dropping and her feet working before she could make up her mind. "What did they tell you? that you'll get rich? strike chance?" He scoffed, shaking his head when they reached a small alcove in the edge of the room. He shooed out the couple that was nearly bear, guiding the woman in his hands to the bench. "There, don't even think of placing your money on that table." He glanced back at the collector's table, shielding her from people's gaze.
