Princess Leia Organa

Along with her twin brother Luke Skywalker, Leia was born from the tragic union of the fallen Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala just after the collapse of the Old Republic and Emperor Palpatine's rise to power. Anakin had turned to evil and become Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith and the Emperor's servant, and Padme died shortly after giving birth. The infant twins were strong in the Force, so the surviving members of the Jedi Order ( Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi) decided that they must be split up and raised in secret, lest the Emperor learn of their existence and exploit their potential. Luke was sent to live with his aunt and uncle on Tatooine, while Leia was adopted by Senator Bail Organa of Alderaan.

Bail and his wife raised Leia as their own daughter and as a royal princess of their house. Even as a young girl, Leia always felt that she was quite different from the rest of her family. She often had the idea that she was missing someone who should have been very close to her, an early manifestation of her Force abilities unconsciously sensing the existence of her twin brother Luke.

She had a forceful personality and bright intellect, having accomplished much in her youth: she was a strong proponent for the Rebel Alliance, the youngest Senator ever of the Galactic Empire at eighteen standard years of age, and a member of the Royal Family of Alderaan.

Leia Organa grew to be an intelligent, headstrong, and fiery young woman with a natural gift for leadership and politics. She also proved adept at combat, developing a keen understanding of battle strategy and honing her blaster skills to the point where she almost never missed her target. At the mere age of eighteen she was elected as the youngest member of the Imperial Senate and became an outspoken opponent of Emperor Palpatine's tyrannical regime. In secret, Leia helped found the underground resistance movement that eventually became known as the Rebel Alliance.

During the Galactic Civil War, however, Alderaan was destroyed along with its inhabitants and the royal family by the Empire's DS-1 Death Star Mobile Battle Station, causing Organa to openly fight the New Order as a leader of the Rebel Alliance.

Kenobi noted that like her birth mother, Leia was fearless and stubborn. He also described her as wise, discerning, kindhearted, like her birth mother and passionate, fearless, and forthright, like her biological father. Of commanding presence and remarkable leadership, adult Organa was a brave and sharp-witted diplomat who was unafraid to speak her mind, even when confronted by powerful figures like Darth Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin. Organa was also able to keep her composure even in humiliating situations to perform daring feats.

Smart, fierce, and headstrong, Organa would accomplish whatever task she imposed on herself, for she would put duty before her personal needs—likely because of her upbringing. She only "gave as good as she got," which was one of the reasons Han Solo had taken a liking to her. In spite of her self-discipline, Organa had a fiery temper she often struggled to control and was eager to prove herself, to be recognized for what she could do instead of for her title of nobility. Certain individuals of the Rebel Alliance gossiped about Organa's perceived coldness, with some even describing her as an "ice princess." Rebels such as Miara Larte, however, recognized the great burdens Leia faced in service to the Alliance and felt no need to judge how the princess carried herself.

Despite her commitment to Alderaan's values of pacifism, Organa believed in self-defense and in fiercely fighting for the galaxy's freedom. She never cared much for being royalty, for her priority was to help those who needed her, and not wealth nor recognition. A woman of action, eager to get things done and making positive differences in the galaxy, Leia was impatient, a trait she shared with her brother, Luke. She truly hated her birth father for everything he had done and refused to remember Darth Vader as her father, seeing Bail Organa as the individual who deserved that name. While she did fear that she could become like Vader if she learned the secrets of the Force, she resolved to never become like the Sith Lord.

Leia immensely regretted that her actions on the first Death Star indirectly led to the destruction of her homeworld. She was conscious of the fact that she alienated many people because of that. Constantly questioning whether she did the right thing, she came to the realization that she would willingly sacrifice those innocent lives again if it meant stopping the Empire. In her eyes, the cause was greater than any one person.

Leia possessed a strong Force sense. At a young age, she unknowingly used the Force to sense others' feelings and thoughts, showing wisdom and insight beyond her years.

Renowned for her leadership and diplomatic skills, Organa was a capable mediator and had training in public speaking. She felt very comfortable leading dangerous missions. Often, Organa used her strategic and quick thinking to carry out carefully laid plans of infiltration or trick enemies.

Thanks to her aunts' insistent lessons, Organa was proficient in self-defense as well, including how to resist interrogation. As competent with weaponry as she was with words, Organa had great accuracy when using blaster pistols, rarely missing her shots. Organa had years of flight training.

Leia wielded a Defender sporting blaster pistol, which was called "Satine's Lament".

The Galactic Civil War is a major galactic conflict fought primarily between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. The Alliance is a rebel faction dedicated to the restoration of the Galactic Republic, the government that the Empire had supplanted at the culmination of the Clone Wars in 19 BBY.
