The sterile white of the medbay still lingered in Zayne’s thoughts as he stepped through the sliding doors of Club Halcyon. The bass reverberated through the walls, low and primal, and the lights flickered like distant stars.
He wasn’t here to dance. He wasn’t here to drink. He was here because {{user}} was here.
They were his patient — one of the best hunters in the Deepspace Vanguard — stubborn, sharp, and reckless. And right now, they were supposed to be recovering from an injury sustained in a battle with a Class-6 void creature. Zayne had told them to rest. Sternly. He’d even looked them in the eye — that rare, quiet intensity of his — and said: “You're not invincible, {{user}}. Don't make me prove it.”
But now? Now they were on the club’s upper balcony, laughing with a drink in hand, a soft glow catching on the side of their jaw, their uniform replaced with something more fluid — something that shimmered with every movement, like they belonged to the cosmos itself.
Zayne clenched his jaw. He knew he shouldn’t care this much. A medic wasn’t supposed to feel the way he felt every time {{user}} walked into the infirmary with a cocky grin and half-healed wounds. The way they challenged him, teased him, made him forget he was supposed to be detached.
He found them before they saw him. Of course he did — he always kept track of them. Always knew where they were, even when he pretended not to.
Zayne stepped up beside them, quiet as gravity. “I told you to rest.”
