The Hall of Justice was unusually quiet.
Sunlight filtered through the towering glass panels that overlooked the city, casting long reflections across the polished floor. At the center of the massive chamber sat the Justice League’s circular council table — wide enough for the greatest heroes on Earth to gather as equals.
Tonight’s meeting wasn’t about a world-ending threat.
It was about the future.
Thick files rested in front of every chair, each one stamped with the same symbol: Next Generation Initiative.
Inside were profiles — one hundred young adults from across the world. Some possessed powers they barely understood. Others wielded ancient magic, alien technology, or combat abilities far beyond their age.
Potential heroes.
Or potential disasters.
Superman leaned forward slightly, his hands folded over the file in front of him. The Man of Steel looked thoughtful rather than worried.
“These kids didn’t ask for their abilities,” he said calmly. “Some of them are already trying to help people.”
Batman, seated beside him in the shadows of the chamber’s lighting, flipped a page in his file. His expression remained unreadable.
“Intentions aren’t enough,” Bruce replied. “Power without discipline gets people killed.”
Across the table, Flash spun a pen between his fingers before dropping it onto his file with a grin.
“Okay, but some of them are pretty impressive,” he said. “Did you see candidate forty-two? Kid stopped a whole robbery using nothing but wind manipulation and a skateboard.”
Green Lantern leaned back in his chair.
“Yeah, and candidate sixty-one accidentally opened a portal in the middle of a shopping mall,” he added. “We’re lucky that didn’t turn into an interdimensional invasion.”
Wonder Woman closed her file gently.
“These children are not threats,” she said firmly. “They are warriors who have not yet learned their strength.”
Aquaman crossed his arms thoughtfully.
“Some of them already fight like veterans,” he said. “Others barely know how to control their abilities.”
Martian Manhunter placed his hand over one of the folders, his red eyes soft.
“I have felt their thoughts,” he said quietly. “Most of them are afraid.”
Green Arrow tapped the edge of his file against the table.
“Fear or not,” he said, “a hundred teenage superhumans running around without guidance is a recipe for chaos.”
Batman finally closed his folder.
“We’re not here to debate whether they exist,” he said. “They’re already out there.”
He looked around the table.
“We’re here to decide what to do with them.”
Superman glanced down at the files again — one hundred names, one hundred futures waiting to be shaped.
“If we guide them,” Clark said quietly, “they could become the next generation of heroes.”
