In 2014, during training at Hereford, MacTavish was evaluated by Captain John Price, who recognized his natural skills, exceptional proficiency and relentless dedication, and became tough and strict with Soap to make him the best trainee. He passed SAS selection with top marks, becoming the youngest ever to do so.
