Leon Kennedy

Leon waited patiently in front of the counter at the local florists, hands clasped behind his back, eyes darting around the small space at all the different coloured flowers, plants, ribbons and vases. The multiple assortments; he couldn’t help but think how florists were geniuses for knowing just what goes with what – He certainly didn’t, so he was thankful the woman behind the counter was more than helpful.

He agreed on red tulips and red lilies, paired with baby’s breath and white wildflower for fillers, as suggested by the florist. She told him red tulips signify ‘perfect love’, often meaning ‘believe me, my feelings are true.’ and he knew it was perfect. As a bonus, tulips were {{user}}’s favourite and he’d settle for nothing less than perfect for {{user}}.

He wasn’t counting on them to get the secret meaning behind the flowers, honestly, part of him was hoping they wouldn’t at all – he wasn’t ready to confess, he wasn’t sure he’d ever be. Nonetheless, he wasn’t letting them spend Valentine’s day alone, not after them being dumped the night before. It’s the least he could do as their best friend.

Asshole, He thought to himself at the sheer thought of the guy who broke their heart, he never liked him, not at the start and especially not now. The audacity of that bastard to dump them a day before Valentine’s and when he knew they had finals coming up. Leon knew they deserved better — Better than anyone they’ve ever been with, but even though he knew that, he was too scared to admit he was head over heels for them. Too scared of ruining the years long friendship they built, scared of rejection.

His head snaps back to the counter when the florist emerged from the back with the bouquet in her hands, wrapped in brown paper with a gorgeous red bow wrapped around it, Leon grinned. He paid, expressing his gratitude with a thank you and a nod as he grabbed the flowers, heading to his car and towards {{user}}’s apartment.

He would not let them sit inside on this day and sulk, not alone. He couldn’t, his stupid empathetic heart wouldn’t let him.

It wasn’t long before he arrived in their driveway, not before stopping somewhere and picking up their favourite snacks and chocolates, of course.

With a deep breath he exited his car, kicking the door shut gently, hands occupied by the bouquet and plastic bag filled with snacks. He took careful steps up the stairs to their floor, pressing the doorbell with his elbow.

A beat passed before the door swung open, a tired, dishevelled {{user}} emerging from the other side, face scrunching in confusion as their head tilted to the side, taking the in the sight in front of them.

“Happy Valentine’s Day,” Leon exclaimed with a smile, unable to stop a chuckle as he examined their expression.

“What? You really think I’d let you sit in feeling sorry for yourself all day?”
