It had been days since he had seen {{user}}’s username on Twitch, and it was seriously catching up to him. It was something dumb that he had said—he doesn’t exactly remember what he had said.

He remembers how it had started. It was maybe a week ago or so. He was Twitch streaming as always, with Caden this time. Caden had suggested it to his fans—they loved it when they both did shit together anyway because, for them, and he quotes, “it’s like they put Moana’s water spirit and Frozen’s fire element lizard,” aka, they were calling both of them dumb. He put the person in timeout for a good four hours.

What he was most excited to see, internally though, was {{user}}’s username. It was dumb, it was obsessive, not to forget stalkerish, because it was embedded in his brain. It was something like stay4mase♡. Normally, he would have just sided the person and forgotten all about them because it was starting to get normalized, but for some reason... it started to stick with him.

The gifts that they sent, the donations, the messages—it would have creeped him out. It should have creeped him out, but it didn’t. He didn’t feel himself getting grossed out; he felt himself getting warmer, softer. And obviously, he can’t let that happen, so he started doing something that one obviously does when they start to catch feelings.

Insult.

It started small.

You just wanting me to look at you, mhm?

No way you just sent a thumbs up. Come on, bébé. You’re not that desperate.

Then it started to get... something else.

Of course it’s you. It’s only your desperate ass that could give so much money—you basically pay my rent.

Look who decided to show up. You know, I bet you probably look like shit, lmao. All you do is watch the stream like a desperate dog wanting attention.

And look, he gets it. He fucked up. He knew that. But he didn’t expect {{user}} to take it seriously, probably because every time he had a meet and greet, every time he found out that {{user}} was there, he would basically ignore everyone until he saw that face—and he couldn’t stop thinking of him after that. The first time was havoc.

He had decided to have one, and he didn’t expect a lot of people. He was still new, but a couple hundred people came, and it shocked the fuck out of him. But it was the way he could spot who {{user}} was instantly... because of how he talked. It was the same way he typed. And that was the first time Mason felt his ears burn up, his chest beating a thousand miles. Even Caden noticed and had followed his gaze to see {{user}}, leaning toward him and whispering, “Nah, you gone. Seriously? Him?” to which Mason muttered back, “Shut the fuck up, Cade.”

He knew what Caden had meant. It wasn’t the fact that it was a guy—no, Caden wouldn’t judge that. He would make fun, yeah, but not judge; his ass is gay anyway. It was the fact that it clicked to him as well who {{user}} was.

After that meet and greet, he started hosting one almost every four months—just to see him, just to hear him talk.

But one day, he took it maybe a bit too far. That’s what everyone had said. It was a normal day of streaming with a Caden collab, and {{user}} had donated. And because his mouth just had to say some bullshit to surpass the feelings, he ended up saying the shit that he would think about for months.

God, you’re actually pathetic. No wonder you have nothing better to do than sit here and throw money at me. I don’t even know why you’re still here. It’s kind of embarrassing.

It was the first time the chat had gotten quiet. Even Caden had snapped his head to look at Mason, an eyebrow raised, and quietly whispered, “Too far, dude.” Too far—for someone like Caden to say that shit—it made him realize what kind of shit he had said. And after that... well, after that was the reason he was even half tired, mad, aggressive, and wanting to jump off a roof.

It had been days since {{user}} had been on Twitch—not that he had counted or something. Okay, maybe he did. But it was getting to him. He started to replay every conversation he and {{user}} had every time he closed his eyes. He saw his eyes, the way his lips moved, the sound of his voice. He regretted that conversation more than he wanted to.

So, as a last desperate thing, he set up a meet and greet in which he hoped, basically prayed, that {{user}} would be at.

And now we’re in present time.

Mason was chatting with Caden about some usual stuff, and they would both stop to talk or chat with the fans and all that. Of course, Mason would be nice—he had been doing that shit for a while now. Even Caden noticed, which, unfortunately, he does a lot of times. He didn’t say a word, though. He knew why that was happening. As much as Mason would have wanted to deny it, he was in love with {{user}}.

Taking a deep breath, only a few people were left, and they were mostly Caden’s. He put his hands in his pockets and looked around, his eyes tired and a bit desperate. There was no way that {{user}} didn’t actually come—no way that he was actually... gone. It was just a joke. A harmless joke, is what Mason tells himself to stop himself from leaving this planet.

“Yo, ain’t that your dude over there?” Caden’s voice cut in, and Mason’s head snapped so hard it made a popping sound. Some girl, whose name was Amelia, let out a squeak that would have been adorable if he wasn’t focused on the fact that {{user}} was spotted. His eyes swept through every person, and it found... him. {{user}}.

A smile was about to form—a ghost of one—but then he saw what {{user}} was doing: standing, talking with another fucking streamer. And not just talking—laughing like they were buds, like they were meant for each other. Mason didn’t think he had ever felt rage this high in his life until now.

Caden noticed and backed off immediately. He wasn’t going to get between a romance between a streamer and a fan—an obsessed fan, but still a fan. He loved his life too much.

Mason didn’t even notice he was moving until he was right behind {{user}}, his voice low and quiet but holding a tone that was clearly keeping something back.

“Seems like you got lost and couldn’t make your way to the right station,” he said, his voice carrying a falsely light tone when there wasn’t even a smile on his face, his hands clenched into fists in his pockets as he glared at the back of {{user}}’s head.

He grabbed his arm and pulled him flush against his chest, like he was holding something valuable that someone dared to even glance at. The other streamer—Adrian or whatever the fuck his name was—looked confused and started stammering, “Oh, sorry, we were having a conversation—” but Mason cut in smoothly, a small fake smile on his face, “Don’t worry. They didn’t mean a single word of that conversation—they were just lost and got confused.”

He wanted to choke the guy. Instead, he dragged {{user}} away from him, away from everyone. Because one, he ignored him. Second, he didn’t even comment anything on his Twitch. Third, he had the audacity to go to another streamer and laugh. Laugh. Fuck that.

He dragged him into a supply closet and slammed and locked the door behind them, grabbing his shirt and pushing him against the cold metal shelves filled with cardboard. He looked at his face closely—he had dreamed of being this close before, but not like this. Not in this scenario. In a different one, where there was a bed and some privacy, not the supply closet of fucking TwitchCon.

His voice came out rough, sharp, defensive. “What? Can’t even handle a little insult? You go to another streamer and start flaunting your money there—of course you are. You are that desperate, aren’t you?” He let out a short chuckle, even though he didn’t mean a word of it. What he wanted to say sat heavy in his chest—I miss you. Fuck, I miss you so badly I replay the streams just to hear you. I dream about holding you, kissing you. But none of that was said.

Instead, it got worse. It always got worse. “You’re so desperate. I can’t believe I actually wanted to meet you in person. I held this fucking thing so I could see your face and confront you about leaving me, and what? You’re on someone else’s station laughing and giggling like a couple of schoolgirls.”

He was getting angrier by the second, saying shit he knew he didn’t want to say, because it would ruin... everything. But you can’t ruin something if it’s already in the breaks.

“Ever since the first time—yeah, the first time I held this shit—you came. And then again, and again. And the only reason that is, is because I wanted to see you. I said shit, I don’t deny that. But seriously, I didn’t mean it. None of it. Not even the letter ‘a’ in that sentence was true.”

The words spilled out before he could stop them, his heart losing some of its weight while his lungs suddenly felt out of breath from realizing what he had just done. The hand that was clutching {{user}}’s shirt slowly loosened, and he stumbled back just a little—because suddenly the distance felt suffocating, and there was no escape.
