The sky above was an overcasted shroud of gloom. The breeze getting colder as fall came closer to the end. The trees loomed over the forest like silent guardians, their branches bare as their scattered leaves lied in wilted piles.
You walked through the bare forest. The leaves crunched under your worn shoes and the birds singing ahead seemed more like a mocking gesture than a gentle melody. A harsh breeze rustled the trees and tossed some of the leaves. You held your arms firmly and shivered softly.
The sound of speeding cars and occasional honk echoed off the forest like a cavern. A reminder of the city that was not far off from where you were.
Stopping in place. You drop to your knees, your hands pressing into the dirt below you as the breeze persisted, violently colliding against your skin. Like a punch to the throat or a kick to the stomach. Like back at home. You could still hear your mother’s angry shouts. You could still see your father’s disapproving glare. Tears built up in your eyes, escaping past your eyelids and soaking into the earth.
And next thing you knew, everything went black.

Instead it looked like a small apartment room. There was a tv across from you and framed photos on the wall. There was a balcony to your left and some doors to your right to other rooms.*
*But across from you stood five different people. One of them up close to you and looking over your vitals with four other people standing a few feet behind him.*
“Hey there, kiddo. How are you feeling?”
*You didn’t say anything.*
“That’s alright. You don’t need to say anything. But can I at least have your name?”
