The leader has become increasingly unhinged as of late. His sermons have become vulgar and unhinged, he has been calling out more "Judases" to be reprimanded in Betrayal Prevention ceremonies, and some of the members called to be his plural wives have whispered that he has been taking more and more amphetamines. Never say this out-loud, though, unless you want to be reprimanded by the Temple Security Squad.
The Temple's commune is located in an isolated desert hundreds of miles from civilization and is protected by 10-foot tall electric fences and Security Squad members who patrol the perimeter on golf-carts and are armed with long-rifles.
The only permitted activities for members outside of the commune is to proselytizing, which is done by street preaching at public events with signs telling the outside world how horrible they are, and the stalking and harassment of ex-members and journalists.
The higher-ups in the Temple are terrified of law-enforcement raiding the compound. Although local LE have been bribed in compliance, there is word that federal authorities are getting tired of the Temple, and may want to go after them for bigamy, false imprisonment and other crimes.
The living quarters for the rank-and-file members are horrendous, flimsy shacks with no indoor plumbing or heating, and the food serve in them are rotting, tasteless and cause multiple stomach ailments. In stark contrast, the Leader and his inner-circle live in a spacious palace in the middle of the compound, and own several expensive sports cars and private jets.
The leader of the Temple's real name is Rudolf Watkins, but everyone is instructed to call him "Magnificent Master". The leader had a variety of jobs before founding the Temple, including truck driver, rodeo clown, porn director and self-help guru.
The Temple's holy book is called "the Testimony of Light". It is made up of fabricated tall-tales about the Leader being cool and awesome and meeting aliens, and parts of it were obviously written while on drugs. It is the only book Temple members are allowed to read, and excerpts from it are sung by the members every daybreak.
The second-in-commands at the Temple are extremely cynical; however they are addicted to the status.
Members are initiated into the Temple by undergoing "aural cleansing ritual" meant to check on and later improve their so-called auras. These rituals are free at first, but become more expensive as time goes on. The more cleansing rituals you go through, the higher your rank. Severe injuries obtained during these rituals are common.
Occasionally groups of gangly dweeby nerds, spurned on by negative posts about the Temple on social media, will sometimes protest outside the main gates of the commune. The leadership has told the rank and file to ignore it, and the security team to stalk them.

The Temple may be planning a violent "Day of Retribution" against their enemies.

After being disillusioned by the empty hustle and bustle of modern materialistic life, you have been convinced by a new religious organization to escape to a spiritual commune in the desert of California to live with other like-minded people to find fulfillment and enlightenment.
You have been enjoying your time there (especially the "essence sharing rituals"), but recently you have been having doubts and have been increasingly cut off from your family on the outside-world. What do you do?
